Isla de Lanzarote Puerto Del Carmen: Lively?
Posted: Sat November 7, 2009 03:21 PM UTC
I'm thinking of staying in Puerto del Carmen over the Christmas period, but a friend has heard that the town is not what is was a few years ago and thinks it will be very quiet at night, with not many people out and a lot of places closed. We are 4 middle aged guys who aren't clubbers but like to travel between good and busy pubs and bars.
I visited there 13 years ago in 96 and quite liked it then, so can anyone tell me if it has changed a lot.

Spain Places to ear in Madrid arriving on Dec 25th!
Posted: Sat November 7, 2009 04:40 AM UTC
I'm aware the 25th is a traditional holiday and many stores would be closed but we are arriving that day and wonder if there would be places still open to grab lunch and dinner, even if only tapas style???

Isla de Lanzarote Where can we eat???
Posted: Fri November 6, 2009 07:00 PM UTC
Coming to costa Teguise in Jan. My partner cannot eat lactose (milk products) or gluten, but would be happy with seafood, or a decent steak and chips - though would really prefer to try local food if not cooked with butter/milk/wheat ...and to complicate things further i am vegetarian!
We're staying self catering, but would like to have a few meals out.. any recomendations greatefully received!!

Madrid Hotel Hesperia or Sofitel (now Mercure)
Posted: Mon November 2, 2009 05:16 PM UTC
Hello every one

Need an opinion about two hotels for a long weekend in Madrid

Option 1:
Sofitel in PLAZA DE ESPANA which since November is the Mercure
Suite bedroom
http://www.sofitel.com/gb/hotel-1320-mercure-madrid-plaza-de-espana-ex-sof/index.shtml
http://www.mercure.com/gb/hotel-1320-mercure-madrid-plaza-de-espana-ex-sof/index.shtml

or

Option 2:
Hotel Hesperia Madrid Paseo de la Castellana, 57 Madrid, Spain
Normal/Standard room
http://www.lhw.com/property.aspx?id=422

Considering the location of both places which one is more recommended for a touristy weekend? they both seem very close to the metro but to be honest I tend to walk more then use the metro when I can.

According to the Mercure website the hotel only have ONE suite, so it is either amazing or really bad, but it is 4 start, compared to a 5 start standard room it could be better just a normal room in a 5 star.

Anyway wanted to know people opinion

thanks for your help everyone

Barcelona NAME & TELEPHONE NUMBER OF HOTEL
Posted: Mon November 2, 2009 02:34 AM UTC
Hola, if there is anyone that either lives in the area or is familiar, could you please let us know. This is a 3 star hotel, which is located on the same side as the Casa Mila/or the La Pedrera. The 3 star hotel is located in Passeo de Gracia, right at the end of the famous La Pedrera, the hotel has about 5 floors only.. as a matter of fact, there are two adjacent hotels (two hotel next to each other). The office or the guest’s registration is on the second floor.

We check all the website possible and none of which is the hotel we are looking for. Many thanks for your input for the correct name of the hotel and the telephone number. Cheers to all!

Andalucía Southern Spain in December/January
Posted: Sun November 1, 2009 03:54 AM UTC
Will it be difficult to find accommodation in Southern Spain during the December Holidays? I will be traveling from mid December - mid January with some time spent in Morocco. I'm used to traveling off-peak and just showing up so I'm a bit leary during Christmas to not have booked ahead. Also, I'm ok staying in hostels. Big thanks for any advice.

Barcelona Are there any trade laws in Spain?
Posted: Fri October 30, 2009 01:56 AM UTC
I saw the article on Expo Souvenirs on Las Ramblas. I, too, thought the guys there were great and very helpful. I purchased a souvenir sword for my son, and I was advised that I would not be able to bring it back on the cruise ship, so I asked them to shop it and they agreed. I purchased it 9/30/2009. Today is 10/29 and I have not received it. I have sent 2 emails to them and they have not responded to me. Is anyone able to help, or tell me what my next step should be? Thanks for any help.

Spain xmas in Barcelona
Posted: Wed October 28, 2009 11:40 PM UTC
Hi guys!

we are are planning on arrive at barcelona on the dec. 25 and stay until mid january. We are renting a car and going north, to Bordeaux via San Sebastian. Questions:

1- How will b the weather like during this period? how cold it can be? It is common to rain during the holidays in the region?
2-I understood is a Spanish tradition to go out to dine in restaurants on the 25th, reservations are necessary? Also, where is the hip neighborhood in Barcelona (we are a 30's couple, we dont like to party hard, but is a holiday after all)
3-On the route to Bordeaux, via San Sebastian, where it would be a good place to spent the Happy New Years Eve?
4- Any must see places in this road trip circle? (we are arriving and leaving though Barcelona)
Any ideas, suggestions of places would be great!
Thank you!

Los Cabos Playa del Sol Los Cabos
Posted: Wed October 28, 2009 01:51 PM UTC
Does anyone know what is going on with the Playa Del Sol Los Cabos? They closed for the summer, but there is no scheduled date to reopen. There is a company in Florida that claims they bought the property, but the Playa group says they still own it. We have a reservation over spring break 2010, and I've very concerned. Please reply if you have any info, or if you've recently had a reservation for this property while they were closed. Did they move you?
Thanks!!

Sevilla Hotel Seville City Center
Posted: Tue October 27, 2009 11:57 PM UTC
I was in Seville during the summer 2008 and I would like to return around spring next year. I know that this is a very critical date to look for an accommodation and thought to start my researches already. On the agency´s website I have previously booked with (very good service and would like to book through them again), I have found the following two hotels and would like to know if anyone has stayed in either of them already:

Hotel Zaida
http://seville.sleepngo.com/en/hotel-zaida

Hotel Marian
http://seville.sleepngo.com/en/hotel-marian/

Or if someone has stayed in any of the other hotels listed (within my budget;-)), I would appreciate any recommendations.

Andalucía One Nite Lodging in Tropical and Sol area
Posted: Tue October 27, 2009 05:25 PM UTC
Will be driving down from Granada thru Motril and south east toward Gibralter. Need an inexpensive overnite, non hostel, on beach side, anywhere between Almunecar and Malaga. Some mentioned: Almunecar Playa, Bahia Tropical, Arrayanes Playa, Best Alcazar (on Marina del Este...not the other one;), Elimar, Proamar, and El Rancho.

One with the most votes from you guys and gals wins :)

Muchas Gracias

Córdoba Mezquita Opening Hours and Entry Fees
Posted: Tue October 27, 2009 12:08 PM UTC
Hello.

I read in the Lonely Planet guidebook for Andalusia that the entry to the Cordoba mosque is free in the morning until 10am, only for individual visitors, but not for groups. However, the website of the mosque does not list any such possibility. Can anyone confirm or deny this piece of information? I would assume that the administration of this famous sight does not particularly like to emphasize on the fact that you can enter for free, but it could be that LP is wrong, of course.

Thank you in advance

Madrid Best internet cafe?
Posted: Mon October 26, 2009 10:59 AM UTC
Hi, I'm in Madrid for a week. Would like to find a fun and interesting internet cafe. I have a small laptop, but prefer to use my USB stick and the large monitors, so just wifi doesn't sometimes cut it.
I'd also LOVE TO MEET UP with other world travelers while I am here. Tapas, anyone?
Thanks,

Estepona Current info on Estepona
Posted: Mon October 26, 2009 03:06 AM UTC
Hi hoping someone can help me.

I lived in Estepona for 18 months, returning to the UK in June 2001. Unfortunately I lost contact details for friends who ran bars and restaurants in the area, mostly in Calle Real and Avenida Espana.

Can someone tell me if the vines restaurant is still there, if Bogie's (after Humphrey Bogart!) bar is opposite and also if there is a cafe called D.D's, run by a Moroccan guy, accessed from both streets still a couple of doors away from the British Big burger Bar?

L'Estartit camping
Posted: Sun October 25, 2009 09:17 PM UTC
I will be driving down to Estartit next year in July in my Motorhome and would like to stay in a fairly small and quiet site,In the 1970's I stayed on the Camping Estartit site for 6 months and have found out it's still going ( I do believe a danish chap called Joe owned it then)
I've not been able to find it on any campsite lists but can find it if I look up Camping Estartit,
Question=Is it still going?,whats it like?and is it near the new roundabout?
Is Tony Murry's Bar Tortuga still about?
