Nepal alone or with a group
Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 11:43 AM UTC
Totally inexperienced with this type of holiday - although fit and really enthusaistic. As 1st timers and having a month to trekk, what is the best way to go? Able to travel March/ April or October/ November 2009. Have read a few comments that suggest do Everest base camp is better for 1st timers with an organised group. Any advice would be gratefully received. Also for the best experience, are we better looking at Annapurna and Chitwan or EBC? All a bit confusing at the moment? Hope to get some advice

Nepal Getting from Delhi to Pokhara
Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 04:47 AM UTC
Hey all, I'm very new at this so bear with me. I'm planning my first O/S trip and the wishlist is to meet friends in Delhi then go on to Pokhara to begin a trek of the Annapurna circuit.
I understand from an earlier entry that I read that you can't fly from Delhi to Pokhara direct; you need to go via Kathmandu. Does anyone know if it's possible to bus it from Delhi to Pokhara, and if so, how long the journey is?
Getting to India seems the easy part, but I'm having trouble getting information on moving around once I'm there. Any info from people who have walked the path before me would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Rodg

Nepal Everest Base camp from Tibet
Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 02:51 PM UTC
I am planning to visit Kathmanadu during October this year, I wish to enter Tibet from Nepal border and to travel to the Everest Base camp and back to Kathmandu. If anybody is planning to follow the same itinerary during the said month, I would like to get along to divide itinarary costs that are horrendously expensive.

Alternatively, I would spend a couple of days at Kathnamdu (including everest air safari) and three days at Chitwan Jungle. We may even patch in for this itinerary

Nepal advise
Posted: Fri May 2, 2008 06:54 AM UTC
Hi! Recently, I saw a travel documentary on Nepal . I find it is very INTERESTING. I plan to see Lukla in June. I've only 10 days to see Nepal in June. I know it might not be enough to explore the whole country but I want to make the most of it. I wonder how may days do I need to trek around Lukla . Is 3 days enough? I know I need a guide to get to Phakding but is there any guide / trusted tourist agency that you could suggest? How much to hire a guide? is it possible to get to Phakding without a guide? From Phakding how many days to reach Everest Base Camp?
If I spend a night in Phakding then coninue a day in namche Bazaar by walk then head on Tengabche then to Ama Dablan Peak and Dingboche is this going to take a day of walk? From Dingboche is it possible to walk to Chuking Valley to see the magnificinet Makalu Peak? How far is the walking distance?
I wonder is June a good time to visit Luka, it seems there'll be a lot of walking.
For intAnce, if I only wish to stop my journey at Chuking vALLEY, am I going to get back to Lukla as easy as retrace my steps from Chuking VAlleY- dINGBOCHE-

Nepal Nepal in August

I heard that Nepal in August is monsoon season. How bad is it around mid August? I am planning to visit Katmandu and Pokara and some people say that it will be okay but others advise not to go since I won't be able to see blue sky at all. I am very confusing. Anyone who has been there in August, please give me an idea.

Nepal Guideless EBC Trek in mid June?????????? what should i be prepared for?
Posted: Fri April 18, 2008 05:35 AM UTC
A friend and I will be hiking from Jiri to Kalla Pattar beginning the first week in June. I am aware it will be the begining of Monsoon season.........but will this be much of an issue?

What should I be prepared for? From what I have read, I have no hesitation about trekking without a guide or porter, I enjoy the freedom of hiking solo.....and would feel like I was cheating if I had someone cary my bags.

So anyways, if anyone has any experience trekking during the monsoon season, and could offer me some advice and tips. they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Nepal Gokyo & EBC: guided or unguided?
Posted: Sun April 13, 2008 09:13 AM UTC
Hello,
We’re planning to spend November in Nepal to go trekking. We are looking at doing the Gokyo and Everest Base Camp trek, flying into/out of Lukla. We are experienced walkers, and fairly experienced travellers: do you think we will need a guide/porters to do this trek? (we are planning to stay in tea houses on route).

I’ve seen numerous postings saying the Annapurna treks are fine without porterage/guides (one of our party has already done this), but can this be applied to this longer, higher trek also?

Any advise most gratefully appreciated!
Thanks,
Alex.

Nepal Warning for Film Processing in Kathmandu

Warning for Film Processing in Kathmandu
Having just returned form an Excellent thought Expensive trek to Lo Manthang, Upper Mustang, Nepal, My friend took 9 films for processing to “The Image Centre” (Colour Link) JP Road (Same street and same side as the kathmandu Guesthouse) Tel 4251468
They Destroyed 9 films and then blamed her Camera, which is fine and an expensive SLR model (Also she had 3 films developed without problem just before setting off on the trek)
They reckoned that light had got into the camera, Strange that this problem mysteriously came and went at the beginning. Middle and end of the films, Not all the films either as one only had a couple of bad ones, I reckon that just over 50% of the prints were worthless !!
They didn’t even offer to reduce the price to soften the blow !!
Anyone else had trouble here ??
Take a tip and go somewhere else would be my Best Advice.

Nepal Easter or Christmas in Nepal?
Posted: Tue March 25, 2008 02:44 PM UTC
Hi

I have 2 weeks at the end of December or middle of April to go to Kathmandu to see the sights and also do a short trek.

When would be the best time to go? While I don't mind hot or cold weather, I prefer clear days for the mountatins :-)

thanks for any tips in advance.

Nepal Trekking Nepal
Posted: Tue March 11, 2008 08:22 PM UTC
Hi everyone,

Thankyou for all your previous help it has been much appreciated.

A couple last questions.

How much do we expect to pay for a guide/porters for a week of trekking?
We have been quoted USD 280 per person for food, accomodation, trekking and perters. Is this normal?

Also can we just get a guide when we arrive in pokhara? Instead of organising it before we get there?

Thankyou for your help, yet again.

Nepal How hot is it in Mid April for trek from Jiri to Namche?
Posted: Mon March 10, 2008 02:26 PM UTC
Hello,

the guidebook says that the month of Mid April to May are becoming increasingly hot.
Does this apply for the section if we start the hike from Jiri around April 22nd, too? Just do not want to be hot on top of sweating the hikes up and down from Jiri to Namche :) How hot can we expect it to be?
Is it going to be so unpleasantly hot that we should skip the section from Jiri?

Am not sure if leaches would be along the trail this high or not.

thank you

Hi everyone,

My partner and I are going to Nepal in approx two weeks time to go trekking for a week. Can anyone help us please with afew questions we have?

Firstly what do you all reccomend on trekking with or without a guide?

What trek is best for 7 days? Or one that anyone really recommends?

What is the weather like at this time of year? End of March?

Do we need a sleeping bag even if staying in the tea house/lodges on the way?
Can we buy one in Kathmandu?

Nepal Do teahouses ever get full?
Posted: Wed February 27, 2008 05:27 PM UTC
Two of us are planning a trip to Nepal which might fall during peak treking season- and id love to do the annapurna trek with just me, my boyfriend and a map, as id like the freedom of doing it alone and to go at our own pace.

i guess my main worry is that if we did go at a busy time the accomadation might fill up and we'd be stranded out on the mountainside... its a bad place to find yourself without a room! what are peoples experiences doing peak times? how frequent are the teahouses on the main routes, and do they fill up? And with no porters etc is the map easy enough to follow alone?

Nepal How much am I missing by starting EBC from Lukla not Jiri?
Posted: Tue February 26, 2008 10:28 PM UTC
This is hard call- after re-reading and re-counting the vacation days it seems that we simply will not have enough time to trek the Jiri-Namche portion since we'd like to explore the Goyko Valley and go via Cho la Pass ti EBC and back to Lukla

How much are we going to miss by omitting this part of the trek?
