Hello all this is my first posting! Any way to the question, I’m planning to travel to Nepal mid January for about 2-3 months, trekking, going for a few retreats at a few monasteries as well and volunteering. I’m planning to stay in Hostel and when volunteer my room and board will be covers. My question is, is it freezable to travel on $500-600UDS a month. This money will be from food, accom and such. Not including my other activates. Place get back to me.

Pharmacies available and prescriptions Posted: Fri November 6, 2009 04:05 PM UTC
I'm on a very heavy post-operative pain killer (dilaudid). Traveling with extended layovers in the middle east one way and Singapore the other way, there's no way I'm willing to risk bringing any of these with me, with or without prescription. Are there pharmacies available in Kathmandu where I can get this (or something similar enough) upon arrival? I can bring a prescription from the U.S. but they may not be familiar with CII prescriptions versus regular ones - most of them are just printed out of a laser printer and signed anyway. Suggestions?

First trip to Nepal for 1 week. Any tour operators to recommend? Posted: Thu November 5, 2009 09:36 AM UTC
Hi,
My fiance and I plan to visit Nepal for 7 days in the last week of November 2009. We've read about the main attractions to visit and being first-timers, we're not too adventurous yet. So, wondering if it is better to look for a full tour package (inclusive of accomodation and airport transfer) when we arrive in Kathmandu, or should we just join a local tour operator from home offering 7D8N Pokhara-Sarangkot-Phewa Lake-Chitwan road trip for USD$500 (not including optional activites like rafting, Everest Flight etc.)?
Does anyone have a reliable tour operator to recommend? Thanks!

10 days - BEST Trek option?!! Posted: Tue October 27, 2009 08:29 PM UTC
Hello!
I have only 10 days after a wedding in Nepal to get higher than I have ever been, and would really like to see Everest from the ground. I would consider other treks if they are high enough and considered more beautiful.
Is is possible to go Lukla to, for example, Dingboche and stay at tea houses on the way? I have done 13,800 feet in the past on a Macchu Picchu trek, and climbed to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and out over 2 days a month or two ago, so I'm in ok condition and know what I need to do to train, and understand acclimitization. I will be coming before this time from Darjeeling, Kathmandu, etc. and I don't know their altitude off hand but I'm assuming I'd have a few days of gaining extra blood cells before I even start this 10 day trek.
I am also open to any other trek, like I said, if somebody has some recommendations?
Peace!
Justin.

Satellite Phone??? Posted: Tue October 6, 2009 12:50 AM UTC
I am leaving for Katmandu Valley this Friday. my father has taken ill and I need to be reachable. I will be a days' walk from KTM most of the time so an internet cafe is not an option most of the time.
Has anyone taken a satellite phone to Nepal? With success? If so, any advice on what kind to rent?
Can you buy a SIM card in KTM to install in a cell phone?
Can you buy a cell phone there that works?
Thanks for any help you can give

Want a rock from Everest- have 9 days. Posted: Mon October 5, 2009 11:37 PM UTC
Hello all!
I have a wedding of a friend in Nepal on the 2nd of Dec. I figure that gives me from the 4th to the 13th to try to make it to Everest and get a rock for my collection.
Does anyone have any practical advice on how to make this possible? Can I fly in close to Everest and hike the rest of the way? If so, what is the trek like and can I do it by myself? I am an experienced trekker, although my previous high altitude record was in the Andes on the Inka Trail, somewhere around 14,000.
I really just want to set foot, somehow, on Everest.
Thanks for the help!
Justin.

Nepali Mountain pepper Posted: Mon September 21, 2009 06:41 AM UTC
Namaskar!
My friend came back from Nepal and gave me a packet of NEPALI MOUNTAIN PEPPER.
It has a lovely strong aroma. I tried to cook a bit of this powder with carrots and potatoes and the end result was interesting. The Mountain pepper had a numbing sensation on tongue and I felt a bit "dizzy" -
Could someone give me good advice as how to cook with Nepali Mountain Pepper?
Thank you in advance for any good information.

From India to Nepal Posted: Sat September 19, 2009 08:54 PM UTC
Hello there,
I'm a lonely female traveller, planing a trip from Delhi (India) to Kathmandu (Nepal).
Am not staying in India a lot, cos my trip main and final destination is Kathmandu. Just I am landing in Delhi, taking train to Agra to visit Taj Mahal, then from there by train again going to Gorakhpur, from which I have to reach Bhairahawa (Nepal border). Was trying to get any info on web with crossing India and Nepal border, how it is with Nepal tourist visa and so on. Well as I understand I can get Nepal visa at the point of entry. Is it right? Planing to stay in Nepal for over 10 days.
And can anyone tell me about getting from Bhairahawa to Kathmandu. Can I get a public bus from there, and how long approximately trip from India border will take to get to Kathmandu?
Thank You.

place to store stuff in Kathmandu? Posted: Sun September 13, 2009 02:33 PM UTC
Greetings all, i am a cellist coming to Nepal in a few weeks. Eventually I will head to Thailand where I will be playing wedding gigs on my cello. While in Nepal, however, I'm thinking it would be extremely convenient to have a secure place where I could store my cello for the 3 months that I'm travelling around Nepal. (i just don't think a sherpa would want to carry my cello on a trekking journey through the Himilayas).
Anyone know what I could do with a cello and a laptop?
Thank you!

Getting from Tribhuvan Airport to hotel in Thamel Posted: Tue September 1, 2009 06:43 AM UTC
Hi,
Is there a prepaid taxi service outside the international terminal to hotels in Thamel? I've already booked my hotel.
I want to avoid the hassle of fighting off taxi drivers trying to get you to go to their hotels for a commission.
If there is such a service? How does it work? Where is it? How much would it costs?

Get permit to Tibet from Kathmandu (NEPAL) Posted: Sat August 29, 2009 10:58 PM UTC
Hi everybody,
We are two guys (Polish female and Peruvian male) who want to reach Lhasa from Nepal we’ll be in Kathmandu on 19th of September to the Dashain Festival and as well to try to get the permit to Tibet. We have been reading some post about the permit and as far as we understood we need to join an official tour it seems that the time of independent travel in Tibet for foreigners is over :-(. And now we need some tips to do it we appreciate any kind of advice from cheapest to expensive (well, I hope the cost is not expensive)
Besides, we are looking for people who want to going with us so we can form our own group to spend a good time. We don’t care where you come from or if you are male, female, old, young,…. Everything is fine we just want to find a nice people to share the Lhasa experience. Actually, we start our trip from Delhi, Agra, Rajasthan, Varanasi, Kathamandu and Pokhara too if you want to join you are welcome.
Thanks you so much in advance for any advice.

Going for 3-4 days to Nepal around Sep. 20 Posted: Tue August 25, 2009 05:16 AM UTC
Hello dear friends,
I am thinking about going alone to Nepal around Sep. 20 for 3-4 days, and I was wondering how I can maximise this (sadly short) trip.
What are the 'must see' places close enough to Kathmandu, and what are the clothing requirements for that period?
My passion is photography, and I am planning on taking a lot of photos there, whether landscape or flora/fauna.
Any tips and advices are more than welcome.
Peace.
Charles.

Is it cheaper to buy Flight Tickets from Kathmandu? Posted: Sat August 22, 2009 09:09 PM UTC
Dear all,
My friend and I (Indonesians) are planning to travel overland from Beijing to Kathmandu in Oct 2009, then we will depart as I'm going to Delhi and my friend is going back to Jakarta. The problem is both of us can't find cheap flight tickets online. KTM-Singapore the cheapest is USD 500 one way. And KTM-Delhi the cheapest is USD 200 one way.
My questions:
- are those prices normal?
- is it cheaper to buy the tickets when we arrive to Kathmandu? (we have 3 days to spend there)
- do you know how much are the prices?
- any recommended travel agents to buy flight tickets in Kathmandu?
Thank you very much! Your answer is much appreciated.

Safety of road trip from Kathmandu (Nepal) to Tingri (Tibet) Posted: Wed August 12, 2009 02:22 PM UTC
I am going to join a group tour that will travel by bus from Kathmandu to Tingri. The route rises rapidly leaving Nepal and entering Tibet on a rough road cut into precipitous mountainsides with vertical drops into deep river valleys. I have seen this road listed as one of the world's most dangerous roads. Has anyone done this trip and how dangerous is it? The only information I have been able to find by googling are many reports that describe bus travel in Nepal as being a dangerous activity with many bus accidents and many people killed each year. I'd love to do the trip but the thought that I might plummet to my death off a cliff face in a run down bus freaks me out.

I am planning to take my family, 8 persons 18 - 56 years to Mustang in April next year. Our preference is trekking/culture 50/50. I would like some good advise from people who has been there. 2 things in perticular:

2. Advise on good and trustworthy local travel agents who can arrange the trip. Preferably from Katmandu i.e including the domistic flight.
