Ulaanbaatar Finding baby stuff in Ulaanbaatar
Posted: Tue February 19, 2008 02:18 AM UTC
I will be moving to Ulaanbaatar this summer with my wife Veronica and our 9 month old baby Eric. Does anyone have any information on how easy it is to get hold of baby stuff (powdered milk, nappies/diapers, winter clothes for babies, cribs, etc)? We will be travelling over from El Salvador, which is about as far from Mongolia as you can get. We will transport some things with us, but it will probably be expensive to bring any big items. Any info on what is available locally would be a big help.
Thanks

Ulaanbaatar Train UB - Beijing
Posted: Mon June 4, 2007 01:54 PM UTC
Looking for advise on train travel between Ulaan Baator and Beijing.

I am in the process of organising a three week train trip from the Netherlands all the way to Beijing (we'll fly back). Obviously we want to make a few stops along the way, but we won't have a lot of time. I read somewhere that there aren't many trains between UB en Beijing and because August is a busy season it is advised to book train tickets ahead of time. What do you think? Should I use an agent to get tickets for the UB - Beijing stretch to make sure we don't get stuck in Mongolia waiting for a train? We do have a plane to catch in Beijing and we don't have much leeway. Is there an agent you would recommend? Or do you think we should be fine if we buy the tickets when we arrive in UB two or three days before we leave again. Are there alternatives to the transmongolian trains? (In case it matters - we want to depart UB on August saterday 18th or sunday 19th.)

Your advice is much appreciated.

Ulaanbaatar Beijing-Ulaan Batar
Posted: Thu December 14, 2006 07:16 PM UTC
Hi! We are two Spanish people who are planning to travel on july to Mongolia. Flights to Ulaan Batar are quite expensive, so we are thinking about flying to Beijing and taking the train from there to Ulaan Batar. We would like to know the prices and the schedules, and how to buy them from Barcelona. It would be also interesting to know if it's worth to pay for the first class seats.
Otherwise, we should be arriving on the 12th of July, so we would like to know if the trains are reliable just to avoid to miss a wedding we are celebrating there.
We've got plenty of time, so there's no problem if we have to arrive there some days before.
Thank you very much, we're looking forward to your advices!

Ulaanbaatar Looking for authentic and comfortable Ger Camps
Posted: Wed September 6, 2006 11:34 AM UTC
I have seen people on VirtualTourist.com telling of their experiences in Mongolian ger camps and wish to know which gers close to Ulaanbaatar (with transport nearby) are the ones to stay at. We (2 adults) will be staying for just two nights at the end of this month (September 2006). An authentic area close to monasteries and some scenic country would be perfect! Thanks in advance to anyone who can helps us.

Ulaanbaatar buying tickets for the Trans-Mongolian in Ulaanbaatar going to Moscow
Posted: Mon May 9, 2005 03:48 PM UTC
I will be in Ulaan baatar around the 25th of September and want to buy a Trans-Mongolian ticket to Moscow. Is this difficult? How much is the ticket? Do I just go to the train station? What days does the train leave? I am currently in China and was thinking about taking a train from Beijing, but I would rather take a bus across the border at Erenhot and then a bus to Ulaan baatar... is this possible?
Thanks!

Ulaanbaatar Mastercard Accepted?
Posted: Wed March 23, 2005 11:24 AM UTC
Do the department stores in UB accept Mastercard as well as Visa? I keep reading Visa in the books but I only have Mastercard. Will I have a problem or should I just bring more travellers cheques and cash? I'll also have my bank debit card which uses the PLUS system, do the ATM's accept that system?
Thanks!

Ulaanbaatar Inexpensive activities possible?
Posted: Mon February 14, 2005 08:00 PM UTC
My wife and I will be stoping in Ulan Baatar and maybe Irkutsk for at least 1 night each and wondering if there are any inexpensive activities to do? All of the sites we've been to look too expensive for us. This is just the beginning of our RTW trip and don't want to spend much at all here.

Thanks.

Ulaanbaatar Hot Gobi, price and booking
Posted: Sat January 15, 2005 10:07 AM UTC
Hi,
My wife and I would like to go on some sort of tour in the Gobi desert. We have found one offered by a danish agency which is a 6 days 5 nights jeep safari for 480 Euro.

A) Does anyone know an agency with interesting tours from Ulaan Batar at reasonable prices?

B) Would it be possible to book the trip once we get to Ulaan Batar considered that we arrive just before the Nadaam festival?

C) In general: does anyone have any experiences from that sort of tours eg. booking, prices, where to go etc.

Ulaanbaatar Cool horseriding place near ulanbaatar
Posted: Thu April 29, 2004 07:57 PM UTC
Hi there folks,
I'll be in UB at the end of june, and I have an idea of getting a horse (maybe on a tour, or just talk to some guy and ask him to be my guide) and going on some trip for like two days, maybe sleepeing with some nomadic family. I got totally no idea about the landscape around UB (I tried to find some pics, but I failed - those that I got don't really show anything), so I don't know if there's something interesting near there. I have an exprience in horseback riding although it might still be hard, let me know if you have some idea.
Thanks a lot,
Bartek

I hear Mongolians are very fond of archery as a sport. I would like to know if Americans can either spectate or participate in archery either in the capitol or in other parts of Mongolia.
