Hi there,

How much time would you spent at the Blue Lagoon? Besides obviously swimming there, I'm an avid photographer so I anticipate walking around and taking some pictures. We were going to get one of those packages where they pick you up in the morning from your hotel, stop there for a few hours, and then drop you off at the airport. 9-2 sounds reasonable? too much? too little? thanks!

For what I understand, the days will be Short (about 10AM-4:30), and Cold (31-38F). Possibly a lot of rain. I don't mind the short and cold, but I'm worried about the rain. Would this be a big problem for sightseeing? Does it usually rain all day, or just sporadic? I assume most of the tourism is in the summer. Is it a bad idea to go in Nov? (needless to say, the deal I'm looking at is super cheap!). Is there a lot of tourism in November?

about two weeks ago my camera (coolpix 90)disappeared while I was either at the Viking sculpture in Reykjavik or at the Salvation Army hostel.
I ve registered the loss with the lost and found at the Police station and rang the tourist boards
If anyone has any further suggestions I d be really grateful

Myself and three of my friends are heading to reykjavik on the 14th of October for 4 nights, this our first time ever visiting Iceland and we are hoping for some suggestions on tours etc. We have only booked our flights at the moment and have nothing else booked.Can anyone tell me what baldursbra guesthouse is like as this is where we are thinking about booking? We are thinking about renting a car for a few days or maybe even for the full length we are there and finding our own way around. Can anyone direct us towards cheap (I realise thats not easy to find in Iceland!!) car rental and tours as we would like to see as much as possible in the short time but on as little money as possible. Also, the Iceland Airwaves festival takes place during our visit and I was wondering if this is worth going to? Sorry I know theres a lot of questions in this.

Hello, we are planning on visiting Reykjavík for a week around New Year's Eve. I understand there will be very little, almost no sunlight at this time but should that dissuade us from going?

We'd like to visit some sights around Reykjavík and I guess this would be more difficult in the dark.


Also I've read that New Year's Eve is an interesting event in Reykjavík, what should we plan on seeing?

last week I was in Reykjavik for few days (will build the pages after summer hols...) and I did not just lose my heart to Reykjavik but also my silver necklace there. Now, I have no idea when I lost it or where but I thought about contacting the Lost and found office in hope that someone had found it and returned it... Its a silver necklace with a blue stone, no real value except sentimental.

I found a womens handbag in ladies room in Perlan and I returned it to the cafeteria there. The owner soon came to look for it and found it in the cafeteria. I could only imagine the panic what she felt realizing that she lost her handbag... she got it back but will I see my necklace never again? I hope my karma will help me to find my dear necklace...

So, if you know the email address for the lost and found office or a Reykjavik webpage where I could ask around I would be grateful!

We have an 8 hour layover on our way to london. I have thought about renting a car at the airport and driving the golden circle. Is this something that is feasible? We will be there 9-2-09. It sounds like the tours would not fit our time schedule.

I'm asking for your suggestion and insider info on accommodation in Reykjavik. We (2persons) are planning to come to Reykjavik on the 27JUL09 and now we are looking for a reasonably priced(70-90euros/per room/night) accommodation. I've already contacted few hotels but the price level is over one hundred euros per night and its not within our budjet.

If possible I would like to stay out of the international chain hotels and support with my stay the local entrepreneurs. The trip is quite special for us and we would like to make it memorable (in a nice way! ;-) ). We do not intend to book a car, so quite central location is essential.

I would be grateful for your suggestions and the reasons why you'd recommed the certain place. In the meanwhile, I will continue with my internet search...

I will be coming to Reykjavík in december for a couple of days during my round the world trip so i am really looking for some advice from people who either live there or have been there on things to do and places to go

So far i was thinking of doing a city tour in the morning and go to the blue lagoon in the afternoon to relax :) can you reccomend some nice food places to go to and shops?

Also i do have another question, while i am there i want to buy some crisp uncirculated icelandic banknotes as they are very valuable in collector's circles, so can i just go to a bank and buy some?

Hi, we are coming to Reykjavik/Akureyri on a cruise , middle July.We were offered several excerssions, which we need help with. 1.we were told that its a waste of money to go on those trips( very expensive) as you see everything from the ship.It doesn't look right to me ,as those trips going INLAND , INto the fjords, onto the glaciers,to gesirs etc.Any suggestion or view about this?
If to take part in those outings. 1.is the Golden Circle( Thingvellir NP( looks only history ajoint to it, nothing else( or may be I am mistaken?),Gullfoss Wf,Gesir area (Gesir Strokkur).2)Through hafnarfjordur to kleifarvatn Lake, to Krysuvik( is this the same as the one with the strokkur gesire ?). And ending with the icelander ( Viking ship).
Which one is more interesting?
In AKUREYRI- we are taken to GODAFOSS WF, Lake Mvatn,Dimmuborgir, Namafjall Mt.
Are the scenes very similar in the 2 areas? shall we do both?

I'm going to Reykjavik in July for a week with my mum and was thinking of taking my netbook along. On the net I found that there are two kinds of plugs used in Iceland. The French and the German version. Since my netbook has a Swiss plug with 3 poles and I have an adapter to the German type what are my chances that the hotel will have the German ones? I don't really want to buy a world adapter for more than 15 Euro.

Can anyone tell me how much time one spends on average at the blue lagoon? Do you enter the water inside the building or outside, ie does one need a bathrobe? plastic slippers? Is there a hair dryer?

I have been reading about the restoration project that has been going on since last year. Does anyone know how much longer the church is going to be covered by scaffolding?

I have decided to fly to Kulusuk, Greenland through the Reykjavik Domestic Airport in the first week of June (a few days from now!). I am staying at the Hilton Nordic and was wondering how far it is from my hotel, and what is the best way for me to get to the domestic airport?

I have also decided to see the Golden Circle through an Evening tour which starts at 730 PM (is that okay? I think the sun sets at 1130 PM, is that right? So, I will still get nice pictures of Gulfoss falls and the Geyser?). Or should I just take the regular day tour of Gulfoss?

I'm also thinking of booking a flight to Akureyri which is a a 12 hour tour starting at 7 AM - any comments on this tour and place?

Wife and I have 2+ weeks in Iceland beginning 7/2.

We want to spend maybe 2 nights in Reykjavik for starters and then rent a vehicle (has to be automatic as neither of us knows how to drive manual)and drive through the entire country.

Questions:
1. Does public bus run from the domestic airport to downtown Reykjavik and if so how often?
2. Recommendations for car rental agencies that have automatics for as cheap as possible? We can rent at airport or in Reykjavik after 2 days there.
3. We prefer not being tied down to reservations in advance in case we like a place and want to stay longer (unless B&Bs/hotels are really scarce to find or we would be paying alot more by showing up without reservations). Anyone who can share some insight into availability/cost of accomodations with vs without reservations?

Hi, We will be honeymooning in Iceland in late August and we were wondering if it would be best to stay in Reykjavik and do day trips for activities or tour around staying in different cities. We want to maximize our time there but also not feel rushed and forced to move along if we don't want to, however if it is going to cost an arm and a leg to stay in the capital than maybe moving around is best.

I'm due to come to Reykjavik next week for the weekend and I have a few questions that I'd be grateful if someone could help me with please...

1) - I've seen that there are a number of companies doing the Golden Circle tour. Can anyone recommend a particular company over the others?? My obvious decision is going to be based somewhat on price once I arrive there, but I would actually be happier to pay not-the-cheapest option if one company's tour was better than the others.

2) - As we arrive late on Thursday and leave early evening on Sunday, then the only 2 full days I have are Friday and Saturday. The plan was going to be to take a look around Reykjavik on Friday and book the tour for Saturday - but I just wondered if the tours run everyday ?? And also if anyone can think of a reason to swap the activities around so that the tour is on the Friday instead ??

3) - As we've heard lots of scare stories about just how expensive Iceland is, then I was going to bring a snack for during the day on the Friday and just have a meal out in town on the evening. Can anyone tell me if there are any rules about bringing your own food into Iceland (i.e. like Australian customs for instance) ??

4) - Finally, can anyone recommend a good restaurant to eat in Reykjavik in order to maybe try some "local" food (but that does other stuff too - as my parents are much fussier eaters !!) ?? Also, what sort of price is an average beer in a pub in Reykjavik ??

I found a good rental car deal for July 23rd to July 25th from Reykjavik. We are however flying in to Keflavik. After searching and calling, I found out they are closed on Friday's and Saturdays. Is this the norm in Iceland? We will only have one day to visit so we wouldn't be able to do much but with a 2 and 5 year old, having a car will make things a lot easier.

P.S. I would have loved to go to glacier lagoon but it just doesn't seem doable in 1 day. Anyone know if there is anywhere else we could see something similar? And are the lava fields and black sand beaches to be seen in the vicinity of Reykjavik? Sorry so many questions!

I'm looking to book a ticket to London from Toronto and the cheapest option I seem to be able to find is through Reykjavik with Iceland air! On the return howver there is an over-night 17 hour layover so I'm looking for some advice!

- does the airport have WiFi, or an internet cafe?
- what should I do with only a day?
- any cheap accomodation options? hostel preferably?

Hi VTer's! Just booked a vacation package with Icelandair for a June getaway. Will be staying at the Hilton Nordic, and I know it's a 15-20 minute walk from downtown --- but has anybody stayed there before? I will be there for only 5 days and I'm thinking of getting the glacier tour on the south coast --- where's the best place for me to purchase the tour (online or when I get to Iceland?)...Has Iceland already recovered from its economic downturn and what should current tourists expect now? Any other tours you might recommend or any reminders??? I read June might be the start of the tourist season (already saw some tips from VZ-Pam's November 2008 trip, I am wondering what I should expect in June)...Thanks a lot! :)

I am looking at taking a trip to Reykjavik for 3 nights at the end of April with my parents (so it's not gonna be all night partying !!). Anyway, a couple of questions I have are...

1) - The choice of hotels that I've narrowed it down to are two .... the Radisson Saga hotel and the Hilton Nordica hotel. Now, all the reviews basically summarise it that the Hilton is the much better hotel (not that the Radisson is bad either) but it is quite a walk away from the centre of things. But there are apparently buses into town. Can anyone recommend one hotel over the other and say why please ?? My head tells me to go for the Radisson as we're only going to be there 3 nights and its location that will be more useful than a nice hotel - but I'm open to being convinced about the Hilton too !!

2) - I've looked at the average temperatures for Iceland and the end of April is clearly not warm - although not too cold either. Is this a good time to go (i.e. a decent compromise in terms of price/temperature) or is there anything that we would miss or places that would be closed due to the time of year ??

My name is Dave and I'm traveling to Reykjavik from NYC solo on Dec 12. I've heard rumors that the ATM's don't work for some American debit cards- is this true? Should I come prepared with more cash than I'd like to carry, or do you think I'll be able to access funds from the ATM? Particularly, does anyone who has traveled to Iceland recently know if a Chase bank card will work there?

A dumb question but I have to ask for opinions anyway :)
My friend ask me if the Blue Lagoon beauty products works or not, she read about the face mask & want me to help her buy it for her during my trip. Since its very expensive, I want to know if any one had tried it & opinions please :)

I also plan to dig up some silica mud around there to give her as a complete natural beauty remedy as a souvenior. Is it legal ? Will I get arrested ?

Can anyone advice me on this? Thanks!
