| Reykjavík | Breakfast in Guest Houses Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 04:47 AM UTC
Hello,
We are planning on staying in a guest house when we arrive in Reykjavik in a few weeks. Most guesthouses offer breakfast/breakfast buffet in the price. What does the breakfast typically include? Is it a small and simple or a larger smorgasbord type? Thanks jp |

| Reykjavík | Blue Lagoon and city stroll... all in a day? Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 09:57 PM UTC
Hi,
Will be on a cruise stop in Reykjavik from 7am - 4pm (on a Friday in August) and was wondering if there will be enough time to take public transport to the Blue Lagoon, and then spend some time strolling around the city before heading back to the ship? I found a bus operator (Reykjavik Excursions) that operates a bus tour for 3 hours and the tour leaves/returns to the bus terminal. Is the bus terminal close to the cruise terminal? And also, if there is just a little more time, would like to sample some local fare in town. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Regards, Jeana |

| Reykjavík | I need help with translations and bus routes/maps Posted: Wed October 31, 2007 05:23 PM UTC
This is exclusively to those who either live in Reykjavik or who speak Icelandic (or both). I'm trying to figure out how to go to certain places outside of Reykjavik, from Reykjavik by bus. I know how to read maps but I don't understand Icelandic. Can anyone help me?

| Reykjavík | Feb Fri 12.00 till Sunday 12:00 What can I do and see in 48 hours! Posted: Mon October 15, 2007 09:57 AM UTC
Hi, I plan a trip to Reykjavík in early Feb 08.
My flight arrives at 12.00 Midday on the Friday and My flight home is at 12.00 on the Sunday. I have found a hotel in the city center that I am happy with. I want to vist the Blue lagoon for a half day at least and also do a golden circle tour taking in the other sights. The golden cirle tour is 10 hours so I would have to do this on the Saturday, so I guess my question is, is there a tour that will take me to the Blue Lagoon friday afternoon? What time is the Blue lagoon open until ? Or rather than try to rush off to the Blue lagoon on Friday, would I be better to take a tour that goes to the Blue Lagoon and also takes in some waterfalls and gyisers on the Saturday ? Your suggestions and advice would be most welcome. Thank you James |

Hi, I'm thinking of travelling to Rekyavik for three days in mid-October. I think the landscape looks beautiful. I was wondering whether three days would be enough to do some quick day tours outside of the city?

Hello! i will be in Reykjavik for a few days (aug 23-27) and am looking for any suggestions for going out on Fri and Sat nights. a jazz club would be nice. are there big lines to get into clubs? we hate lines & will trade duty-free wine/spirits in exchange for getting on a guest list or other way to avoid a line ;) also interested in meeting any VT folks if they are around. thank you, looking forward to experiencing the city!

| Reykjavík | Hard Rock City-T Posted: Wed August 1, 2007 01:17 AM UTC
Hoping some fine VT'er can help me out in getting a Reykjavik Hard Rock Cafe City-T. Especially somebody who could accept a paypal payment (although, I could probably do an 'international money order').
Have started collecting these for the past few years and am trying to 'retrofit' my collection. Either post here, or just email mail me directly. Thanx in advance. Dan |

| Reykjavík Region | Time of year to vist and how long to stay Posted: Tue June 19, 2007 05:32 AM UTC
I would like to take my wife and daughter to Iceland. As the title implies, I would like to get a feel for how long I would need to stay to do everything that a visitor would normally want to do in Iceland. It will probably be the only time we ever go to Iceland so we want to do/see it all and not just see from a bus. We want to take in the whole island, not just Reykjavik. Also, what time of year would be best. Obviously summer is the most comfortable, especially for someone from Florida like myself. However, I'm not sure I could adjust to the 24 hour days. Maybe late August, early September would still be "warm" and provide some dark time. Any comments appreciated.

| Reykjavík | BSI Bus tickets Posted: Sun May 13, 2007 04:12 PM UTC
Hi, all!
Next month, we're flying into Keflavik and want to get to Geysir by bus. If we're lucky, we'll be able to pull into the Reykjavik BSI station on the Flybus a few minutes before the 8:30AM Bus 8 to Geysir departs. My question: How best do a pair of jet-lagged Yankee tourists go about quickly buying tickets at the station? Do we need to go to a ticket window, or can we buy them on the bus itself? If the latter, is exact change required? Are there ticket machines that accept credit cards? Thanks! Mark |

| Reykjavík | Where to celebrate my birthday in Reykjavik? Posted: Sun May 13, 2007 02:30 PM UTC
Hello everyone,
I will be in Reykjavik at the end of May, and it happens to be my 30th birthday on a Wednesday. I would like to celebrate Wednesday night with a couple of friends. Places that have been recommended to me are "Vegamot" and "Cafe Oliver" - apparently there's good food and nightlife. What do you think of these places? Especially on a Wednesday night? Do you have any other suggestions? Thank you so much for your help, I would really like this to be a memorable day. Cheers, Belimone |

| Reykjavík Region | Long lay-over on a Monday night. Anything to do? Posted: Sat May 12, 2007 10:17 PM UTC
Hello,
It looks like my travels will finally land me on the island of Iceland. I'll be there for a day or so in August so I'll be able to see touristy stuff then. However, on my return back from London I'll arrive in Iceland around 11PM on a Monday and my onward flight won't leave until 10AM the next morning (Tuesday). I'm trying to decide if I should just book a hotel and crash or if there's anything to do as far as nightlife that could keep me awake until I return to the airport. I won't be dragging any baggage around with me - so that helps. Plus, it will be very early in September. BTW - if it would be best to just get a room ..... any suggestions for places near the airport or at least easy to get transport? Just wondering. Thanks - Skull. |

| Reykjavík Region | New Years Eve - worth it? Posted: Sat April 14, 2007 04:15 PM UTC
We are considering a trip to Reykjavik for New Years Eve. We've heard it's a lot of fun. Now, I do not like cold weather. Normally vacations for me include palm trees. But I would love to see Reykjavik as I've heard it's wonderful. Is new years really great for New Years? How miserable is the weather then?

| Reykjavík | One day (and one night) in Reykjvik Posted: Thu March 15, 2007 09:07 PM UTC
My wife and I (traditional married couple inthe 50's)will stop overnight on our return to USA from Amsterdam. This will be on May 29th 2007. We want to make of those 24 hours the most and at the same time do a bit of shopping and sightseen. My wife also wants to buy a good winter coat and some souveniers.
A few questions...one good hotel close to the main town probably is the best, right? Any recomendations? Also I think that taking the bus from the airport is not bad and relatively cheaper than a taxi, right? Any good place to vist? We will arrive at the airport Keflavik at 3:10 PM on the 29th and will leave on the 30th at 5:00 PM Please any help will be nice. Thanks, Tony |

I understand that it all boils down to luck, but what do you think my chances of seeing whales and the Aurora Borealis are over Easter? April seems to be the beginning of the whale watching season, and the end for northern lights. Thanks. |

| Reykjavík Region | Strokkur/Geyser Posted: Tue January 16, 2007 10:14 PM UTC
Hi,
I need some information on getting to the Geysir. Is Strokkur a different one than what is there in the Geysir Park? How much time do I need to get to see one of them, from Reykjavik or the Keflavik Airport? Is there any bus service in the morning? Is it possible to plan a visit to the geysir and the Blue Lagoon within one morning and afternoon? Thanks, Arpita. |

Hi,
I am going to visit Reykjavik for a day in March, and I want to make the best use of it. I wanted to see the Blue Lagoon on my way from keflavik airport to Reykjavik. Is there any bus service from the airport to the lagoon in the morning? Or else, is there any bus from Reykjavik to the Lagoon and then from the lagoon to the airport? My flight to UK is at 4:30pm, so I need to be at the airport before that. Thanks, Arpita Banerjee. |

I am trying to find out if it is possible for the above hotel to add an 'extra bed' to a double room for a few nights. Their useless website will only give me the option of a double and a single room. they also don't state their e-mail address or telephone number. any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers. sourbugger |

I will be coming to Reykjavik from December 12-14 which is a Tuesday through Thursday. I am coming at this time because it is my birthday, so I will be looking for some fun places to party. Are there any good places for parties on weekdays or does much even go on downtown during the week? I am hoping to find some fun places, but being during the week I don't know what will be best. Thanks!

| Reykjavík | 5 days in Iceland in late November? Posted: Tue November 7, 2006 06:46 AM UTC
I have some unexpected time off from work in late November and am thinking of traveling to Iceland ("book tickets first, ask questions later").
Is Iceland in late Nov worth going to, what with all the darkness? Can you recommend some major things to do in 4-5 days? Anything in particular I should not miss? |
