Kota Kinabalu Kota Kinabalu - where to board a bus/minibus/van for Tambunan
Posted: Mon July 21, 2008 12:08 PM UTC
Hi. I need to get from Kota Kinabalu to the Gunung Emas Highland Resort using public transport on Sunday (August 3). I know I should use a bus/minibus/van going from Kota Kinabalu to Tambunan, Keningau, and Tenom but I am getting contradictory information about the place where to board this bus/minibus/van. Could anybody please clarify this issue to me – I will go there directly from the airport, so place on the south side of Kota Kinabalu would be an advantage. Thanks.

State of Sabah Driving from Kota Kinabalu to Tawau
Posted: Mon July 7, 2008 12:58 PM UTC
I am planning to drive from KK to Tawau sometime this week and I have some questions;
1. What is the distance and how long does it take to drive between these 2 cities
2. Can I drive via Keningau. I heard the road is not surfaced but is the driving comfortable and safe. But it is a shorter drive, though.
3. Where are the interesting places I should plan to stop and how much time

Thanks/Yengteck

Kota Kinabalu HELP Please -- Can I book my own hotel in Laban Rata and KK Park?
Posted: Thu June 19, 2008 11:37 AM UTC
Hi,
In the interest of saving some money, I plan to make own separate bookings for KK mountain climb guide, hotel in Laban Rata, and hotel in KK Park on the way back.

1) Does anyone know if I can make own booking and if so, what website?
2) Also, do you think it is worth staying at KK Park on return from summit or go straight back to KK city?
3) Does anyone know a good local guide for mountain climb?

THANKS

State of Sabah A family in Kotat Kinablau
Posted: Thu June 19, 2008 08:22 AM UTC
Hi,
I will going to visit the Kota kinablau on 7 July with family members (2 adults and 2 kids -- year 7 & year 12). We would like to accomdate in the budget hotel or hostel. Is there any public transport from Airport to Sity or to the hostel. As I searched in the Web, there are so many hostels being located in the city. Would someone can advise us which one (one room with bathroom attached, with airport pickup is fine)is the best suit for our family.
We are going to plan a trip for 6 days journey in KK. Would someone give us advise to explore the culture and the nature within those days. Is it value to visit the Turtle island 2days in Sandakan? Those places of interest (lok kwai wildlife park;kinabalu park;canopy walk;air terjun kipungit waterfall;rose garden;tea garden; sepilok orangutan rehibilitation ctr;white water rafting;klias river excursion; turtle island and museum)can be accessed by the public transport?

Kota Kinabalu Urgent - Please help with package
Posted: Mon June 16, 2008 03:29 PM UTC
Hi,

We are planning to go to Kota Kinabalu for 5D4N (4 nights) in a couple of weeks and need some help with selecting a package (hotel and guided tour / mountain climb). We would like to stay in a "long house" for 1 night, stay on the mountain for 1 night and perhaps stay in the KK city / KK Park for the 2 nights.

Please let us know if there is a good tour package available as we are going for the first time. Our budget is around 1500 MYR but if forced to increase, we might spend a bit more.

MANY THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

Kota Kinabalu Your experience of the Hyatt Kota Kinabalu
Posted: Sun June 8, 2008 05:06 AM UTC
Hi,

A couple of years ago we visited Kota Kinabalu and stayed at the Magellan in a Club room. We have been considering staying there again as it is indeed a very beautiful hotel and we were especially happy with the very large room which came with the Magellan Sutera Club room. We are again travelling to Kota Kinabalu early September and I was looking at the Hyatt and wondering how the rooms there compare with the Magellan. We won't be using the swimming pool nor have much time for the resort activities and my main reason for Hyatt is the closer location even though one can catch the shuttle bus. I'd possibly be looking at a Club room so your experience staying in this hotel would be greatly appreciated.

Kota Kinabalu Orang-utans...Shangri-la or Sandakan?
Posted: Fri June 6, 2008 02:28 PM UTC
We're staying in KK for 6 days in early July. We want to see the Orang-utans, but were wondering whether it was worth booking our own flights to Sandakan etc or spending less time and money by going to the orang-utans near the Shangri-la resort? We will have 2 children with us who are 12 and 10 years.

Hello VTers,

Me, wife and 2 kids will be arriving in KK on 10 June 2008. Would like to know if there is any reliable and good value for money tours around. Interested to go to the Monsopiad Cultural Village and also the 2 islands of Manukan and Sapi.
Been doing some research on the net about some travel companies in KK, but would like to know which one to take as the price differences varies quite a lot. Thanks for any response.

Kota Kinabalu climbing Mt Kinabalu
Posted: Tue May 27, 2008 12:52 PM UTC
Hello everyone, my family is planning to climb Mt Kinabalu in July. Three kids, aged 14, 12, 9.
1. Is it realistic to expect that the kids might get to the top? (they are normal active kids but not mountain climbers)
2. Should we book 2 night up the mountain so the kids can recover and then go down on the third day?
3. Is Laban Rata the only place to stay? I couldn't find any web pages for other accomodation.
thank you for your help

Kota Kinabalu Questions On KK
Posted: Mon May 26, 2008 12:55 AM UTC
We are going to KK for 4D3N (stay in the town center) in November 08.

Questions :
Is Rasa Ria Orang Utan rehab center open for public ? If yes, is booking required ? Any contact number, or email / website ? How far is it from KK town ?

We are arriving from KUL by Air Asia. Is there any car rental in Terminal 2 at KK Airport ?

Is it ok to make a daytrip to Kinabalau Park + Poring ? How far is the park from KK town ?

Is it difficult to find places in KK as we are driving ? Where can i get road map for KK & surrounding areas ?

Thanks.

State of Sabah Hotel at Tambunan, Sabah, Malaysia
Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 05:17 AM UTC
Hi. Does anybody know any hotel at Tambunan, Sabah, Malaysia – just about anything will do, I just need it to sleep there after coming down from the Crocker Range and before going to Ranau next morning? I know about the Borneo Heritage Village (formerly known as the Tambunan Village Resort Center) but it is somewhat inconveniently located out of the town wit its access to public transport.

Besides. I have read about bad shape of road from Tambunan to Ranau. Does anybody know about current situation of this road with respect to the public buses/microbuses going along it? I should be there this August. Thanks.

Can someone give some information on MASwings airline - is it any good, luggage limit and general service. How does it compare to Air Asia?

I am deciding between AirAsia and MASwings for KL to KK. Given the negative expereinces of people on AA I am persuaded by MASwings as its part of Malaysian Airlines - What do you think?

Kota Kinabalu Accomodation in Kundasang/Mount Kinabalu
Posted: Sun April 27, 2008 05:37 AM UTC
Due to work, I had to reschedule my trip to KK, which will be 17 - 20 May '08. Because of this, I couldn't secure my room that I had booked earlier. Both Kinabalu Pine Resort & Mount Kinabalu Heritage Resort & Spa (Perkasa) are full on that weekend.

Is there any other suggestion? I'll be travelling alone, so, I would like some safe place.

Thanks.

Dear all,

We will be visiting kota kinabalu in June (From china) we are from uk. I will be taking our 4 year old twins and mother in law, wife. We are looking for advice on.

1. Recommended places to snorkle - our kids can now swim and really want to see fish. But it must be easy snorkling
2. Best way to see the organtangs. I hear its a costly fight from kota or a long road trip. Are there other options? nearer ?
3. Is there anywhere you can see turtles - i heard that was possible?
4. Any other things we should see..
