Sabbath in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv Posted: Fri June 26, 2009 03:39 PM UTC
We will be in both cities on a Friday till Saturday. Are there restaurants and stores open on these days? Are there places in these cities where we can still go shopping for gifts? What other attractions will be open? We just don't want to waste the days sitting in our hotel. Will buses still run or will we have to take taxis? Are taxis expensive?
Thank you,

Best time to visit Israel Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 07:06 PM UTC
My husband and I are looking at a tour to Israel in late November to early December. How is the weather in Israel at that time of the year? Does it rain a lot or can it snow? Does it get really cold? Would it be better if we put off the trip till the spring when it will be warmer?
Thanks

Can you let me know if I can get a Sherut from Jerusalem to Haifa in the late afternoon. Of perhaps you can direct me to a Sherut company - tried one through Google and phone number did not work. I need approx prices and how long it will take.
If I go by train and change in Tel Aviv, approximately how many hours will the journey take.
Many thanks for your help. Ruth Resnikoff - Florida - coming to J. on June 1st.

Day Trip Posted: Fri April 3, 2009 01:22 AM UTC
hello
i am going to amman and want to make a day trip to jerusalem,
1) what time is the king hussain border open
2) i want to go see the temple mount and the mosque, are you allowed to see the rock?
3) at what times can you see it?
4) i have heard that people who are muslim have a hard time entering through customs (have a canadian passport) is that true? and if you want to go in the mosque i heard you are only allowed to go if you are a muslim, do they require any proof? (i am a east indian muslim)
5) is jerusalem a safe place to visit?
6) how much is it to have a taxi usually from amman to the border and is it easy to get a taxi back to amman?
7) can you hire the taxi from the isreal side to the 2 sites i want to go to and back to the border? usually how much would it cost?
8) would i be able to go to the 2 areas i want to go to (temple mount, and mosque) and back again?
9) how long do you wait at the border for?
10) are the isreal forms you need to fill out for canadians available online to print so it fast tracks the process and can the money you have to pay at the border be paid by master card at the border
11) how far is the temple mount from the isreali border
12) can you get the multi jordan visa on arrival at the airport as the one entry visa
13) do you have to pay anything when reentering jordan with a multi visa? and how much?
14) if you have to take another taxi back from jerusalem to the border is it easy? and how much would it be? should you bargain?
sorry for all the quesions, and thank you very much for all your help

private visit to holy sepulchre Posted: Mon March 30, 2009 09:00 AM UTC
Is it possible to arrange to spend a five minute private visit into the holy sepulchre if organised in advance. That is to say spend five minutes alone in the holy sepulchre ? I have been but it is very difficult to get the sense of where you are and to time it between the services.

What exactly is the Hass Promenade? Posted: Wed February 11, 2009 07:30 PM UTC
Hello Jerusalem experts,
going to spend a night at the Ramat Rachel Kibbutz hotel, I noticed that on the way to it the map indicates a point of interest called "Hass Promenade". I've tried to look it up here on VT but the search engine is too poor to come up with some results. Could somebody tell more about it? I love long paved promenades going along ridges and letting you have a nice view across cities or valleys such as up on the Budapest castle hill or on a seaside or lakeside.
What is there to see? Is it worth getting out of the car?

Which hotel? Posted: Fri January 16, 2009 12:41 PM UTC
Hi I'm planning to visit Jerusalem this Spring and want a good priced hotel (not bothered about complimentary shower caps etc) near the Old City and the main sites - we'll be walking/using public transport. I have a possible shortlist of The Gloria Hotel, The Jerusalem Hotel (on Nablus Road, there are so many with similar names) and the Mount of Olives hotel. I would appreciate Vters opinions of these hotels please. Many thanks.

Transportation info to Masada and Bethlehem Posted: Fri November 28, 2008 05:21 PM UTC
Does anyone have any info on when and where the buses leave Jerusalem for Masada and Bethelem. In particular I'm wanting to know what time the earliest bus leaves for Masada and if the buses stop by the Dead Sea. Additionally if anyone has any info on buses that do go directly to the Dead Sea from Jerusalem it would be appreciated. Finally how much would a taxi to Masada and Bethelem cost? Thanks in advance!

How late can you arrive at the Allenby border on Sundays? Posted: Tue October 7, 2008 07:02 AM UTC
I hope to get a taxi from Jerusalem to the Allenby border. I read that the terminal closes at 8pm on Sundays. So, should people arrive around 5pm or so? I'm assuming it takes as long to depart as it is to enter? Thanks!

Security lines at airport? Posted: Sat September 13, 2008 05:12 PM UTC
I have heard for years that the security at Ben Gurion is very tight. How long ahead of flight is it recommended to arrive at airport? I have tried to find answers on all sites and not really seeing anything. We arrive 3 hours ahead in most countries for intnt'l travel. Is this enough for a 6pm flight?
Thanks for any help.

Driving time between various places in Israel Posted: Wed September 10, 2008 07:06 AM UTC
1. How long is the drive from Red Sea to Dead Sea?
2. How long is the drive from Dead Sea to Masada?
3. How long is the drive from Masada to Jerusalem?
4. What is the best hotel in Tel Aviv? Hilton? Dan?
5. How long is the drive from Jerusalem to Bethlehem?
6. What are the top 5 things to see in Tel Aviv?
7. Is it true that US citizens can get a visa on arrival in Israel - even if I'm coming by land via Jordan?
8. Will Israel place visa and entry and exit stamps on a piece of paper instead of my passport since I travel around the world and many countries would not allow me to enter if I have an Israeli stamp in my passport?
9. How easy is it to walk from place to place in Jerusalem, e.g., Wailing Wall to Dolorosa to Dome of the Rock to Mount of Olives? Time to walk between major tourist sights?
Thanks.

Lunch in East Jerusalem during Ramadan? Posted: Sat August 30, 2008 09:56 PM UTC
I am really excited about coming back to Jerusalem next week. I have just realised that it will be Ramadan when I arrive. As I shall be staying mainly in East Jerusalem can you advise if many of the eating places will be closed or not at lunchtime?
In particular is Abu Shukris likely to be open? I have been looking forward to going back there for a humous lunch for 2 years! ;-)
Thanks (and thanks for the advice in respect of my earlier question)

Where should I start & end (Cairo, Luxor, Jerusalem, Petra)? Posted: Fri August 29, 2008 11:40 PM UTC
Where should I start & end (Cairo, Luxor, Jerusalem, Petra)?
I am planning a trip for the end of the year. I have a free flight that I have to take before the end of the year with American Airlines and I want to visit the following sites:
- Cairo (Giza and the Pyramids)
- Luxor
- Petra
- Jerusalem
I am not sure what city I should fly into to begin my trip. American can get me to either Tel Aviv or Cairo. From there I have had many suggestions:
- Take a train (at night) from Cairo to Luxor and then fly to Tel Aviv. After seeing Jerusalem, take a tour bus into Jordan (after switching buses) and spend a couple days in Petra then take a bus to Amman or back to Tel Aviv and fly back to Cairo for my return home.
Has anyone taken a train from Cairo to Luxor? If so, how was it?
Is there a train to Jerusalem from Cairo?
Has anyone taken one of the many tours from Jerusalem to Petra? How was it?
Any suggestions you could provide would be great!!
I have tried a couple travek agencies but they all include airfare and I already have the free flight that I have to use.
Thank you!

Top Family Eateries, and Wine Bar Posted: Sun August 10, 2008 11:59 PM UTC
Arriving in Jerusalem on Tuesday, August 12. Traveling with my wife and 3 daughters (10, 10, 13); we are the kind of people who open to all sorts of adventures and are definitely not your typical tourist. (At least I think so.) We like to eat good, interesting food, be it topnotch street fare or fine dining. In Jerusalem (and then Haifa and Tel Aviv) we have high hopes of enjoying not only the history, the people, the landmarks, etc. but also good food and wine (for the parents, that is). Mediterranean, Israeli, Oriental (Moroccan, Tunisian, et al.), whatever.
I'd welcome your top-10 list of restaurants and food stalls in a range of prices. And where do I buy good wine in Jerusalem?
Thanks in advance.
