Vang Vieng Is anyone near the post office in Vang Vieng?
Posted: Wed January 7, 2009 04:30 PM UTC
Hello, I need a favour, my sister sent a package from there some time ago, it got to Ireland but no-one was there to collect it, it seems to have been sent back but not sure if it went to Vang Vieng - could anyone get their phone number or find out what happens to post returned? I would be so grateful and could return the favour somehow! Thanks :)

Vientiane Seeking budget Hotel in Vientiane - is it possible to "walk-in" and get a room?
Posted: Sat November 8, 2008 01:09 AM UTC
I'll be visiting Vientiane for the first time from 11 to 13 November 2008. Have been trying to book a room at suitable budget Hotel in city centre via the NET, but, all responses indicated "Room NOT available" on those dates!

Is it possible to simply get off the plane and take taxi for a "walk-in" check-in at such accommodation in Vientiane?

Or, can any kind soul provide a better solution, pls.

TQ.

Vientiane Vientiane to Singapore - flying the cheapest way
Posted: Wed June 25, 2008 07:21 AM UTC
Hi,

I am trying to find a convenient flight from Vte to Sing. Unfortunately, I haven't found much yet.

Seems the low cost between Udon and Sing are no longer in operation.

Anybody has a clue about that and how I would be able to reach Singapore from Vte the easiest/cheapest way possible ?

Thx for you help.

Vientiane Aroon Residence Hotel
Posted: Sun June 22, 2008 06:20 AM UTC
Does anyone know of this hotel ? There is a sister hotel named the Aroon Hotel which is more expensive and out of my price range. Is the Aroon residence in a decent location? I see it's not on the river. Is it that much nicer to have a place to stay on the river ?
Thanks

Vientiane Vientiane to Siem Reap advice
Posted: Thu March 13, 2008 04:03 PM UTC
Hi,
I am looking for any advice for travelling between Vientiane and Siem Reap.
Is it a good idea to take a couple days to do this while stoping at certain towns in north-eastern thailand?
Is it better to just get to Siem Reap as quick as possible?
Which is better, train or bus?.

Any advice helps.

Thanks

Vientiane Vientiane to Cebu City
Posted: Sat December 22, 2007 11:19 AM UTC
Hi, plans have changed drastically in the past few days, as they do when travelling for long periods of time. Now the plan is to leave from Vientiane January 3rd for Cebu city. I can't find a flight for cheaper than $630 USD. This is ridiculous. My budget is severly low. Can anyone give advice on the cheapest way to get from Laos to the Phillippines. City destinations are flexible and so are dates within a week of the 3rd.
Thanks VT'rs

Vientiane Weather in July/August etc
Posted: Tue June 26, 2007 09:41 PM UTC
I know it's the rainy season but July/August is my only available time slot in the year to travel! My questions are:

- How rainy is rainy - are roads to Vang Vieng going to be impassable? My basic plan was to go to Vientiane then to Luang Prabang via Vang Vieng. After that I was going to either spend a little more time in Laos or head off to Hanoi. So basically it's going to depend upon what is feasible. Opinions & ideas are welcome please.

- Does anyone know of a quiet and reasonable place to stay in Vientine, I want to be fairly centralin terms of location.

- I've been reading bits on the Laos pages etc about mosquitos - are they a problem and will I need to take malaria tablets or is it more a case of not forgetting the repellant?

Man thanks

Vientiane Udon Thani to Vientianne and vice versa
Posted: Sat January 13, 2007 05:14 PM UTC
From Bkk, we'll be flying to UT arriving at 530pm. we are Vientianne-bound and that means we gotta spend the night in UT and gonna take the bus to Vientianne early the next morning. btw, me and my wife are travelling with our 9 and 4-yr-old daughters.

- Are there buses that directly service UT to Vientianne? If none, what is the best option?
- Please give details of bus schedules.
- How long will it take the trip inclusive of the clearing time at the border immigration?
- How much is the legal fee they charge when crossing the border? If any.
- Will it be enough for a whole day to cover basic spots in Vientianne? Or a city tour package (offered by agents) would be the best bet.
- Do they accept Baht in Vientianne shops and hotels at a good rate? we are planning to have baht handy instead of the local currency.
- How's the weather in Vientianne in the month of May?

any additional helpful tips would be very much appreciated.

Vientiane getting to Udon Thani

[Multiple post alert: This is also posted below in the Udon Thani forum!]

For some strange reason, I'm able to find into from UT to VTE, but not the other way around. Is anyone able to enlighten me about the most efficient, least expensive way to get to UT from Vientiane?

(If some context helps, I'm just going to UT to grab a cheap flgt out on Tiger Air, which leaves at 9am....I assume I need to stay overnight in UT, so any ideas where to stay & when is latest I can leave VTE?)

thanks!
