| Montego Bay | Bed Bugs in Montego Bay Posted: Thu April 3, 2008 01:13 PM UTC
We recently returned from the Royal Decameron in Panama, we were there March 17th to the 24th. We encountered bed bugs in our room, one incident only, on March 21st. When I awoke on the 21st, I had one stuck to my torso, with a few bites around the area, obviously he already had breakfast, lunch and was on dinner. I found it on my backside while showering, and if you think the shower water knocks it off, you are wrong. I had to pry it off of me, and after several attempts, it finally let go, and I threw it down the drain.
We went to front desk and had our room fumigated...now we are concerned that we may have brought them home with us in our luggage, after reading other people's posts. Here's my question - has anyone ever experienced bed bugs on their vacation and NOT brought them home? We have been checking diligently, vacuumed our bedding, put the luggage in the garage, sealed in a bag, and I washed all of our laundry in hot water. It does not appear that my husband was bitten at all on the trip, just me. And we were never bitten again. I would like to hear from other people who have had this experience and what happened after they arrived home. Also, if you did bring them home, how soon after you were home did you notice them? |

| Montego Bay | Jamaica in August? Posted: Fri March 28, 2008 02:33 PM UTC
Hi there
My partner and I are currently planning our honeymoon. We are seriously considering the Sandals Royaly Carribbean resort in Jamaica and would be staying for two weeks at the beginning of August. We love the look of the resort and the country, but have heard that the weather at this time of year is less predictable with rain almost every day. Is this accurate? We so want to go but cant change the dates. Obviously we dont want to go somewhere which is going to be a wash out but jamaica is the one place we both desparately want to visit. Its a tough call...Do we go or not!?? Thanks Jason |

| Montego Bay | Montego Bay or Ocho Rios? Posted: Thu March 13, 2008 01:41 PM UTC
I am planning a trip to Jamaica this summer but can't decide between Ocho Rios or Montego Bay. I am 21 and will be bringing a friend, we want to lay on the beach and do excursions during the day and then go out and have fun at night. I really want an all inclusive trip. Any advice? I am a little worried about Ocho Rios because most of the beaches are nude. But Montego Bay is more expensive. Help!

| Montego Bay | Transportation Companies Posted: Thu February 28, 2008 06:15 PM UTC
My husband and I will be visiting Jamacia in April 2008, to celebrate our 20th Anniversay. We have traveled before and have always rented a car for a couple of days to get the true experience of locals and the region we are visiting. We will only be in Jamacia for 5 days and I don't want my husband to worry about driving this trip. I want to see Jamaica, Negril, Ochas Rios and spend some time there not the tourist places. I have already contacted Barrett Adventures and Clives Transportation, Clive's has a better price. Does anyone have any other suggestions on private transportation? We are staying at the Holiday Inn Sunspree. Thanks so much!

| Montego Bay | artist seeks photo ops. as source material for paintings. Posted: Sat January 26, 2008 05:00 AM UTC
I will be nearby Montego Bay (Rose Hall Resort) at the end of February. I would like to know where I can find photo ops. which seem to express the "essence of Jamaica'. Also, do you know of where I can see works of art of local artists, which seem to reflect this essence. As a woman who might have to go on her own, on bus tours, where is it both safe and artistically rewarding to travel to? thanks, Dawn

| Montego Bay | Transport Posted: Wed January 16, 2008 08:13 PM UTC
There does not seem to be direct air service between Montego Bay and Curacao except by going via the USA. Is there any type of direct transportation between these two points, a float plane,or boat? Thanks

| Montego Bay | Are There Liquor Stores anywhere on the Hip Strip? Posted: Sun December 23, 2007 12:18 AM UTC
This may sound like a strange question but I'm wondering if there are any retail outlets that sell wine in Montego Bay - or more accurately, on the Hip Strip. I'll be staying at the Royal Decameron (anyone know what this hotel is like?) from Dec. 30 to Jan 13th. It is an all inclusive and all alchoholic beverages are included in the package. However, having been to several other all inclusive resorts, the white (or red) wine is usually atrocious. Wine is really the only thing I drink but I'm pretty picky about what type (Pinot Grigio), so I was hoping that there was some type of liquor store where I could buy my wine. Does anyone know where I can buy wine? If not, is there anyway for me to find out? Thanks much!!

Was wondering if anyone has tips for getting from Cuba to Jamaica. Am an Aussie trying to book online flights and but seems impossible to book online from Havana. We were considering other means e.g. ferry/cruise but there don't seem to be many one way, one stop services around the Caribbean?

| Montego Bay | NIGHT LIFE ....Safe or not Safe? Posted: Wed February 21, 2007 05:36 PM UTC
HI,
A group of friends (all girls) are planning on heading to MoBay for a week long vacation. We're getting mixed reviews from the travel agents we've been speaking to. One says, the nightlife is awesome, and being three single young women, we are guaranteed to have a good time. The other says, it's dangerous and if we decide to go to Jamaica we shouldn't leave the resort after dark! Any thoughts? Also....are there any suggestions of must see tours or attractions??? |

| Montego Bay | Help Jamaican Primary School Posted: Mon February 19, 2007 12:15 PM UTC
Will be in Mobay on March 14 off a cruise. I want to bring a couple of backpacks filled with school supplies for a rural school (any). Need to know how to get it to the best place. We'll only be there a few hours, going to do the zip-line Canopy Tour (any info on that appreciated too). If anyone living in JA can help out with ideas, it would be appreciated. 1st time cruiser but we were in JA 10-11 years ago. Took the Blue Mt Bike tour and visited a school on the way down. When I got home I mailed a big box of school supplies to the Tour operator, but eventually it was returned to me. So any ideas?
Thanx |

| Montego Bay | Voltages Posted: Tue February 6, 2007 08:16 PM UTC
Hello All
Has anyone stayed at the Rose Hall resort complex. What I would like to know is what is the voltage in the hotel, as I have heard that it is 220/230 volts at some hotels and not 110 volts as most of Jamaica is. I ask because my daughter is getting married there next month, and wants to know if her hair straighteners and hair drier will work. regards Mike |

| Montego Bay | Cuba to Jamaica Posted: Tue February 6, 2007 07:48 PM UTC
Hey all, I am looking for a flight from Cuba to Jamaica and the only airline I can find that does it is Air Jamaica (except charter flights which are not an option). Does anyone know any other airline that I can research? Also, the Air Jamaica website doesn't allow me to check into flights out of Cuba online for some reason. Any help/advice appreciated. (note: I can leave from any destination in Cuba and arrive at any in Jamaica)

| Montego Bay | Safe way to visit/help locals Posted: Tue December 19, 2006 07:12 PM UTC
My wife wants to help out some local families with small gifts of money. She wants to do this discretely, annonomously, and without making a big deal out of it. I am concerned about her safety if she goes to poor neighborhoods and starts handing out cash. My wife was born and raised in a desperatly poor country and now she always tries to help out folks that are less fortunate. We are only going to be in Montego Bay for one day as we will be on a cruise.
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on how/where we could do this safely? |
