Santo Domingo COMBI OR GUAGUA TO SANTO DOMIGO
Posted: Thu August 10, 2006 12:10 AM UTC
I heard there's a problem getting public buses at Santo Domingo airport.
Can anyone tell how far it is from the arrivals building to the autopista to catch a guagua instead of an expensive taxi? Is it an easy walk or will the authorities check me out if I walk it?
I feel it outrageous to be held hostage like that by the taxi union. I would sooner walk it!
thanks Mike

Santo Domingo Electric outlets
Posted: Wed June 21, 2006 11:30 PM UTC
I know the current is 110 for dual prongs as in the US, but are these uneven in size as in the US -- one wider than the other? I am planning on taking an adapter for my 3-prong laptop plug, but do not know if it'll fit. Are 3-prong outlets found there at all? Thanks for your help!

Santo Domingo Trying to sort out must do things
Posted: Mon June 19, 2006 11:50 PM UTC
I am trying to find a tour operator that deals with more extreme "roughing" it type tours into the mountain region, preferably to see waterfalls and mountains, maybe do some "gliding", (that thing were you slide across a rope from one end to another) see flora and fauna, as well as the cigar factories. I am having a dfficult time finding tours that come into or ride out from juan dolio as I am at an AI resort. My intention is to Wed chill at AI as ourfligt arrives at 1 and I am told that customes can take some time, Thursday do Boca Chica as I have been told over and over to not go on a weekend, Friday first trek into santo domingo (lighthouse, aquarium, los tres ojos, that cave restuarant), Saturday do a complete full day tour(fingers crossed) and dancing in santo domingo, Sunday tour into santo domingo old city (conde, la zona, mercado, and museo hombre dominicano), Monday chill at AI b4 afternoon flight. What sucks is I only have four full days to get this in....any suggestions on a good tour company that comes to this area yet goes to the places I mentioned above which are more east coast than southern in the same day/tour? I don't want to waste too much time taking a bus to punta/bavaro if I can find it closer. Help!, as I leave in a day and a half!!!! i really wanna do that gliding things as I have a fear of heights I am trying to overcome...

Santo Domingo Camera/Camcorder security
Posted: Mon June 19, 2006 12:39 AM UTC
How much should I be concerned about security from thieves in Santo Domingo -- especially in the Zona Colonial? I'm an experienced traveler in Latin America, but this is my first trip to DR. I'm always careful about keeping the straps wrapped around my wrist and other common sense measures, but just don't know what to expect there and don't want to lose anything. Thanks for any advice you can give.

Santo Domingo Looking for CHEAP but CLEAN accomodations
Posted: Sat May 13, 2006 04:55 PM UTC
Hello, I'm new to VT. I am taking a trip to Santo Domingo in July to visit my girlfriend for two weeks. I need a cheap place to stay, but also one that is clean and comfortable. The maximum I can afford is about $30 US per night for 15 nights. I would also like some advice on what to bring for basic expenses for two weeks (meals, entertainment, and misc. spending). I am not a big spender and can get by with very basic things. Hoping some of you can help me out. I look forward to your posted replies.

Santo Domingo South Coast Beach................
Posted: Sun April 23, 2006 05:47 PM UTC
If I am in Santo Domingo what's the best beach to visit? I already plan on taking a day trip to isla saona, but if I want something close by where should I go?

I know that boca chica is close but I've read both good and bad things about it. I came across something for Playa Esmerald, but I'm not sure is it's a beach or just a resort area. What do you recommend?

Santo Domingo Day trip to Santo Domingo from Punta Cana
Posted: Sat December 31, 2005 05:10 AM UTC
Hi,

I will be in Punta Cana for 5 days, with only 3 full days for day trips. I want to have 2 day trips. Any suggestions for the must do 2 day trips? Any advice on the best way to visit/explore Santo Domingo? I have read about the RH Day Tours at www.rhtours.com for $49 to SD, which includes a visit to the cathedral, Santa Maria la Menor, and the Fortalezza Ozama and shopping at the Calle El Conde, as well as lunch and drinks. Is there a better way to get to SD from PC other than the RH Tour, if so where, who, how much $? Is it better to go on the RH tour or travel by some other way to SD and plan my own tour? How long is the drive from PC to SD? Any other advice for day trips is welcomed. I was thinking of the RH Tour Day trip: Jurassic Safari in the country side of DR with horseback riding, etc., which several VTs rated highly.

Thanks and Happy New Year!!!

Santo Domingo 1st time traveler!
Posted: Wed December 21, 2005 12:29 PM UTC
Hi everyone! I have a question about the exchange rate in Santo Domingo. I know every US dollar would equal 35 pesos. I'm wondering would something like $1000 US dollars be the same in Santo Domingo as $35,000 pesos? Meaning, lets say I buy a hamburger in Santo Domingo. Would it cost something like $3.50 pesos or $35.00 pesos? That would make the difference of $.35 US dollars or $3.50, or at least some similar rate between currencies. Know what I'm trying to saying? I never traveled so I never had to deal with exchange rates. Any info would be a great help! I heard you could be treated like a god for the right price down there. =-)
