In Search Of A Great Beauty Product Posted: Sun May 10, 2009 08:57 PM UTC
Hi
I was hoping someone could please help me. My parents have recently brought me and my wife back from their trip to Santo Domingo a great product called Pure Dominican Sulphur Cream to use. They brought it off a lone trader with a stall when they were out there. Try as I may I cannot find this item on the internet for sale, I have searched and searched but with no joy.
Has anyone any idea who sells this out there? It had product of The Secret Garden Inn on the front but I cannot find this company on the internet.
Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards

Hotel in Santo Domingo suburbs Posted: Tue March 31, 2009 08:27 AM UTC
I will be in Santo Domingo for 8-9 days in May and will be staying in Juan Dolio for the duration- however, I would like to see a bit more- I have been to Santo Domingo a number of times, but always stayed in the Zona Colonial. This time I want to stay in a decent hotel outside of the centre- either- maybe towards Herrera and west to San Cristobal- but I cannot find anything out there. Looking at maybe 50 bucks a night? any ideas? Even by Miramar or north but still central.. I'm just looking to avoid the tourist centre that I already know well. I need a place more Dominican and in an area where I can sit with the locals in a colmado and share a few beers.....

Living in the D R Posted: Wed March 11, 2009 08:03 AM UTC
Does anyone know how the rules apply for foreigners( I am a brit and a US passport holder) staying indefinitely in the D R? Health -wise- would we get any treatment if not insured?( I heard health care is free). I go often to the DR on vacation, but now would like to spend time there helping orphan kids or adults to learn English or something, or build homes, or whatever if somethign goes south with my job here. I am single so I can move on. But at 48 I'm thinking maybe I can give back a little..............

Holland Guest House Juan Dolio Posted: Wed March 11, 2009 07:59 AM UTC
Hi- I am going to Juan Dolio in May for 8 days/and have found what looks like a super apartment and really at a great price. I have never stayed at Juan Dolio- I know Santo Domingo and Boca Chica from previous trips, but felt like a bit of relaxation this time.. but does anyone have any info or reviews on Holland guest house. The pics look so good, and the owners are Dutch which is a plus, but a review or info on the place and area for any good bars nearby would be very helpful. Thanks.

Hotel near Los Alcarrizos Posted: Sat February 14, 2009 10:13 PM UTC
Hey everyone!
I am going to be in the DR for a couple of weeks in March working at a Fey y Alegria school in Los Alcarrizos, District Nacional, Santo Domingo. I ned to find a hotel as close to Los Alarrizos as possible while still being "liveable". I'd like to stay in the $50-$75 a day price range if possible and close to bus or public car routes.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks -
John

Visiting in September Posted: Mon August 11, 2008 03:24 PM UTC
I was in Santo Domingo in 1965 (in the military) and I wanted to find several locations in the City.
> Polo Field that was used as US air field.
> A large hotel next to Polo Field...
> Someone having knowledge of the 1965 military action, sites of interest.

First Visit - What THE Best retaurant in Santo Domingo & What Do men Wear? Posted: Sun July 13, 2008 06:44 PM UTC
OK, I have this weird fetish. I love to go to 3rd world countries and try out their FINEST restaurant. I've done it all over the world and hardly ever had a bad time or poor food. So what's THE best restaurant in Santo Domingo? Also, this time of year, do men wear jackets to those top restaurants or just slacks and shirts? Are jeans appropriate in most restaurants? Tell me the dish...I can't wait for this trip!! (July 22-26)

Nice Beaches Nearby Posted: Wed April 30, 2008 09:17 PM UTC
This is my second time going to Santo Domingo, and I'm looking for a really NICE beach to spend the day. The last time I went, I took a day trip to Isla Saona and Aura Beach House/Lounge in Juan Dolio. Aura Beach House was nice in terms of atmosphere, but the water wasn't crystal clear and blue as it is elsewhere. Isla Saona was nice, but it was a long trip from Santo Domingo and I found the beach to be really quiet and kinda boring.
I like cystal clear water and white sand, however, as a young 20-something I'd like to visit a beach where there is a little more pep. Some zest. Any advice? How is Boca Chica?

Santo Domingo Trasponrtatio Posted: Mon February 25, 2008 04:48 PM UTC
Does it make sense to rent a car there? Me and my friend are going for 4 days and want to maximize our experience. We are staying at a small hotel in Santo Domingo city, but also want to hit up the beach at Punta Cana and see other parts of the island.
Thanks a lot

travel from Santo Domingo to Haiti Posted: Sun November 25, 2007 02:28 PM UTC
I am looking for schedules and prices for the coaches (bus) that run between DR and Haiti.
Specific questions:
Do they run on Christmas and New Years Eve?
How long does the trip take?
Is there a baggage allowance limit?
Where do they leave from and arrive at?
Is a visa required for a traveler with a US passport?
How much are the tickets? Is there a discount for a round-trip ticket?
Much thanks in advance.

Searching budget hotels near Zona Colonial to cook in Posted: Fri November 16, 2007 03:57 AM UTC
Hi friends, This is a question about modest budget hotels near the Zona Colonial. My wife and I would really like a quiet place so we can stay in and relax if we want to and cook our own meals in the room. Do any hotels you know of have the usual amenities but also provide cooking facilities on-site or better yet in the room? Thanks, Jeremy.

please help Santo domingo or Samana or Puerto Plata? Posted: Thu November 8, 2007 02:25 PM UTC
First of all I would like to express my sincere sadness for the loss of life during the hurricane noel. I am sure the people of dominica republic will not let this tragedy ruin their happy go life.
Secondly we booked our holiday in December (first time goer) and are staying at Melia Hotel in Santo Domingo for two days in December 2007 for a stay of twelve days. I made the mistake of booking hotels for the whole duration in previous holiday and find out better deals and pleasant one while being stuck in contract that you cannot break!!
Can you someone shed some feedback on the hotel or suggest better hotel or apartment?
Thirdly, I have been reading at lot about boca chica as well, can you someone shed some light about the nightlife (clubbing), places to eat or visit. We are also hoping to do at lot of sightseeing within the 12 days which will include Samana or Puerto Plata. We are a party of three single men who are in dire need of serious de-stressing from a hectic work environment.
Many thanks for your help

Trip to Santo Domingo Posted: Mon October 1, 2007 05:43 AM UTC
We lived in Santo Domingo from 1964 to 1968 and are going back to visit.
We will be going to a resort at Boca Chica and plan to rent a car.
Is it best to take cash or traveler's checks? Are U.S. credit cards accepted in most places? Is the water safe to drink?
Any advice on do and don't would be appreciated.
