We're going to the Blau Colonial in March and have been hearing and reading conflicting stories about tipping and gifting the staff. Some say do it generously and regularly, others say that the country may seem poor but that the staff in the resorts are not because of the generous volume of tips they receive. I've never been to an all inclusive resort and want to do the right thing, but don't want to just throw money around either. My sister said that she tips at the end of her trips and when she stayed in Cayo Coco (different resort) that her service quickly dwindled because she wasn't tipping as she went along. Also, how much is recommended to tip? I've heard one peso per day/service, but I've also heard that's not enough. What's a girl to do???? Thanks!

Why is Blau not listed in the list or resorts in Cayo Coco. I wanted to put up a review but seems that all resorts are listed except Blau. Am I missing something here?

I'm off to Hotel Melia Cayo Coco with my partner 21 January, and I want to do some fishing although it's not purely a fishing holiday. I've never done anything like this sort of fishing before.
I've read the query from juneboulton (25oct10) and the reply from ozzb1 (05nov10). Both should now be back from their recent trips. I'd appreciate anything they could add to ozzb1's helpful suggestions, based on their recent experiences, and of course anything that any other member would care to offer. I intend to take an 8-wt 9' fly rod (plus poss 6-wt for backup in case of accident) with pike/bass type flies and a 10' spinning rod with poppers and possibly other stuff.
Suggestions would be appreciated re:
- terminal tackle for bait fishing, braided line vs monofil, and what sort of strength, obtaining dead bait, etc
- landing net?
- getting to other nearby 'well worth it' locations including inland channels and lagoons, bridges on causeways
- up-to-date info on boat trips and guides for shore fishing (but I can't spend a lot)
- can you get caught fish cooked at the hotel and, assuming you do well, can you give fish to the hotel kitchen and or individual local people?
- what about mosquitoes and other precautions/risks while fishing, in addition to the obvious sun exposure
I hope juneboulton and ozzb1 and respective partners had really good trips.

My partner and I are off to Cayo Coco on the 5 dec, we are only going for a week unfortunately, but wanting to find some good things to do with our time and not really finding a lot through the internet, so hoping some people with experience will help us out! We really want to go to Havana but found out its an overnight stay, or is there a other way of getting there?
Are there any good sugar cane trips or cigar factory trips, or anything fun also

Hey,
we are four people going to Cuba in January and we want to go direct to Cayo Coco from Havana. Does anyone know how to get from Havana to Cayo Coco? Have checked Viazul (http://www.viazul.cu) but they have no direct route to Cayo Coco (I think the nearest stop is Ciego de Avila). We have also considered rental car, but are unsure of price and availability in the period that we intend to go.
Thanks.
BR
Kenneth

I'm heading to Cayo Coco in a couple of days. I'm just wondering what the best option is for going to Havana for a day or two. Does anyone know what the cost is for a flight? Is it worth it to just book a flight directly without doing the whole package deal through the resort? What about a car rental? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hey everyone...
4 of us, Brazilian friends, are going to Cuba and we intend to stay in Havana for a couple of days, rent a car to drive to Santiago and back to Havana, stoping in a couple of cities for a day or two and in Cayo Coco for a couple of days...
We are having a hard time to get a car rental and to set up a place to stay in Cayo Coco. The travel agency told us that the hotels are full between the 22nd and the 26 of December and they cannot find a rental car anywhere..
Is there such thing as Casa Particular in Cayo Coco?
Where?
How do I contact them?
How about car rentals from Havana ?
We also tried an airline from Havana to Santiago and they had oversold flights....and rent the car there... no luck either!!!!
Please, help us out with good tips!!!!
Thank you!!!

Im sending my parents away for a week to get them out of my hair.....Ive stumbled upon this place and it looks decent....has anyone been there recenlty and how was the resort? Needed: Clean, decent food....somewhere without those typical all inclusive resort horror stories Ive read about.
If there is an alternate place someone can suggest please feel free to forward your opinion.....Ive only got a couple weeks to book and the most important thing is I get them on a plane!!!
Thanks for your help!
Andrew

My mother and I will probably be holidaying in Cayo Coco late this october to early november. We have noticed that The Oasis Playa Coco is quite cheap for an all inclusive deal, however I have read very mixed reviews on this hotel including many which said that the staff were unfriendly. Has anyone here stayed in this hotel before and if so how did they find their stay? Are the staff unfriendly? I would really sppreciate any information on the hotel or the area in general.
Oh and How much money in euros would be an acceptable ammount for two weeks? We are on a relativly flexable budget but all the same.....

I would like to ask about diving in Cayo Coco (and Cayo Guilermo) - is there a big chance to see sharks during diving (or sharks are seen only sometimes)?
Whats the weather in Cayo Coco in November (i have heard that there is a little bit windy and not good weather in that time) ?

2. how many pesos for the catamaran
3. do you find out at the Krystal about diffrent things to do or should things be booked before trip

We will be leaving next week for two weeks in Krystal Laguna, this will be our honeymoon after getting married at the weekend, this will be the first time i will have flown anywhere further than Ireland. We would be grateful if our growing list of questions could be answered.
1, Does anyone have a tips for us as to local customs ect, what we should or shouldnt do.
2, Does the Lagoon really smell bad as we have read somewhere.
3, Should we need to take our own towels.
4, How long is the transfer from the airport to the resort.
5, What is the legal limit to the amount of cigars/spirits we can bring home with us.
6, What are the Lagoon view rooms like, and has anyone been on honeymoon had an upgrade from these rooms.
7, We will be wanting to go swimming in the sea, what is the best thing to do with our towels ect
