Varadero Tipping in Cuba
Posted: Tue November 3, 2009 04:43 PM UTC
Hello,

I was wondering what would be the best way to tip while I am in Cuba. I have heard alot about bringing items they need like pens, paper, pencils. But I usually like to tip with money, that way the person can buy what they need.

Is that acceptable? If yes, can I tip with CUC's?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Varadero Hotel and Tour Information
Posted: Tue November 3, 2009 04:12 PM UTC
Hi to Cuba Travelers. We are staying at the Agua Azules (formerly Club Amigo Varadero) wondering if anyone has stayed there since change over in January. Read some recent reviews that where either + or -. Also are looking for comments form anyone that has taken the Glass Bottom Boat & or Mini-Sub tours out of Varadero. Would like info on where do you book them, comments about the experience & prices. Am also looking for information on taking a tour out to some sunken Pirate Ships or even sail on a Pirate Ship from Varadero & or Cayo Largo. Please, any info would give me a link to further my quest.
Thanks Loretta

Varadero tennis
Posted: Mon October 12, 2009 06:35 PM UTC
Planning to go to Varadero this Xmas(09) and stay at Hotel Tropical which is downtown. I know they don't have any tennis courts there but does anyone know where else I could play tennis. Are there tennis clubs open to the public around that hotel or is it possible to go and play at another hotel where they do have courts.
Thanks

Varadero which resort to book
Posted: Wed August 19, 2009 06:38 PM UTC
Hi fellow Cuba lovers; I go to varadero every year, and I'm thinking of either the Oasis Turquesa or Playa De Oro. If you have any info on these that would be great.

If you are looking for info on Varadero resorts, keep reading...

so far I have been to:
2009 Cuatro Palmas (small, decent, incredible beach, food was good, but the rooms are not so good. first room full of mosquitos; second room across from the disco. No sleep.)
2008, 2009, Barcelo Marina Palace (beautiful, big, lots of walking, nice beach, good staff, great food, very quiet. Not very much music, boo!)
2007 Blau Varadero (switched to Alameda after one night; noisy uncomfortable rooms and line-ups for food)
2007 and 2008 Playa Alameda ((wonderful all around, food, beach, entertainment, all stellar. Really good band every night)
2005 Beaches, now called Melia Las Antillas (wonderful all around, food, beach, entertainment, all stellar. Excellent dancers and killer band)
2001 Barcelo Solymar (great bungalows, rocky beach, bad food but it was the times)
1996 Melia Las Americas (beautiful, rocky beach, bad food but it was the times)

I haven't been to cayo coco or Santa Clara; I love the beach at Varadero because it is so pristine and the waves are great for playing. can anyone tell me what other cuban beaches are like? I was at the Riu Turquesa in Holguin; great resort, beach was yucky.

Varadero Weather in May/June
Posted: Fri May 29, 2009 01:50 AM UTC
I have been looking at the weather reports and it's constant thunderstorms every single day.

Does anyone know how the weather is like? Does it rain all day long or does it rain for an hour and then sunny?

I can go to Cuba for just 455$ for 8 days leaving tomorrow, but if it's going to be raining all the time, I may as well just pass on it.

Varadero First time traveller to Cuba
Posted: Sat May 9, 2009 09:37 PM UTC
Hi, im leaving for varadero in a week, and im looking around on the internet for things to do during the days and nights, and i was wondering if anyone had any good tips and advice on what to do. Looking through the forums i saw that people have swam with dolphins, and taking boat rides where the bottom is glass and you can see the coral reefs. I would really love to do those kinds of things, so if you can let me know where abouts in veradero i can find things like that please let me know. i'd also like information about local and inexpensive snorkelling trips and activities such like that!
Thank you very much

Varadero Helping Public Schools In Varadero, Cuba
Posted: Tue January 20, 2009 08:58 PM UTC
My parents traveled to Cuba last year and took a few gifts for some of the citizens and visited the small areas and schools. To my understanding, the public schools children attend in Cuba are not well off in the area of school supplies. I am taking a trip in March and am hoping to fundraise through my school and gather money to buy some pencils, pens, erasers, paper, etc.

I was hoping some of you could maybe guide me on some more information of the supplies they may need and any extra information you may have about the education system.

Thanks So Much!
