Århus A Week to go to our VT Meeting in Århus
Posted: Fri August 24, 2007 08:47 PM UTC
Hi Guys

Just over a week to go now to our VT Meeting in Århus and things are starting to really hot up!!!

Although not that many VT'ers have signed up so far (Come on Guys! !!) I am pleased to say that we have had a tremendous response from the various other Danish groups to which Shelley and I belong ... That's the Danish "Meetup" groups in Kolding, Århus and Copenhagen, plus an other organisation called CouchSurfing (The response from them has been terrific, with about 10 travellers from various parts the world attending.)

So, we will 100% definitely be holding our VT Meeting starting at 19.00 at the
Cab Inn Hotel Reception / Bar in Århus, Denmark on the evening of Saturday 1st September 2007.

If you don't know where the CabInn Hotel is, ask any locals for the Århus Theatre - The Cab Inn Hotel is 50 meters away. It's the big white building on your right. Co-incidentally this area is also where a lot of the festival activities take place. The main stage is right in front of the theatre.

Once you are in the hotel reception area bar, to make us easy to spot, I will put a couple of large red and white wooden Danish flags on our table. I will also tell the reception staff where we are.

One the CabInn Hotel's website on which you will not only find the full address and phone number, there is also a map and a short video. Check it out - It will help a lot, as it shows what the hotel looks like from the outside. As you will see, the big wooden front door (number 14) is off Stor Torv. The back door is on the canal - but that is harder to find. Stor Torv is about a 10 minute walk from Århus station at the far end of the city's walking / shopping street.

http://www.cabinn.com/

This will be the 3rd time we have held a VT meeting to coincide with the Århus festival. In 2004, there were 5 of us, in 2005, 9 showed up. We are hoping for lots more this year. I am guessing between 10 and 20 in all.

Originally this year, there were just 2 of us coming over from London but that number has gradually crept up to 6… There is me and my girlfriend, Shelley, a Finnish girl who we have not met yet, plus our friends Alan and Annalise and now also Shelley's mum, Bernadette.

The VT meeting starts at 7.00pm; I guess we will hang around the hotel for 30 minutes or so before going somewhere more exciting for a beer, coffee or maybe something to eat. Somebody has suggested a trip to the Irish bar "Tir Na Nog" - I guess it might be crowded during the festival, so any other suggestions would be more than welcome. At some stage also the plan is to have a walk around town together and see what is worth seeing in the festival.

Once we leave the hotel bar, I will again let the bar staff know exactly where we are heading, so don't worry if you are running late, you will still be able to find us. If all else fails you can call me on my mobile (00 44 7967 044282)

We look forward to seeing you in just over a week !!!

Århus To Hire a Car or Not to Hire a Car - That is the Question
Posted: Mon July 2, 2007 03:23 AM UTC
Hi Everyone

My girlfriend and I are visiting Århus for this year's festival. We will be there for 5 nights - Sat 1st Sept - Wed 5th Sept.

(See also the VT Meetings section.

http://meetings.virtualtourist.com/1/meeting-3876-3-0-0-World-1183346133135-1214968533135-meeting.html?wosid=LSHZdMIVFMbDyDtGZ4etpM )

Rather than stay in CabInn in Central Århus, which is ok but we have done that twice before, this year we have decided to book with

http://www.tarskovmolle.dk/b&b_priser_english.htm

It is 13k from Århus and looks lovely.

It says on the website that there is a bus from the Mill into town. However, I gather from Århus tourist information that it is only once an hour and only every other bus goes direct. I also hear that there is only a night bus on one day of our stay ie the Saturday.

We are probably going into town every day - So I am wondering what to do regarding transport - Should I rely on the bus / train or should I hire some bikes (might be a bit difficult with or luggage haha) or possibly hire a car.

If we did get a car, we could pick it up at the airport and go direct from there to the Mill with our luggage. We also could go for day trips to other towns in the area - Silkeborg, Aalborg, Billund perhaps.

My main worry is difficulties with parking. The last thing I need on holiday is to have to spend ages driving around looking for somewhere to park and then to pay a fortune for it. I have very little patience with that sort of thing, living in London and I suspect it will be very busy in Århus as it is festival week.

I have never driven in Denmark and have no idea about the rules and regulations. I know nothing about the parking schemes in Århus. I don't know if there are parking meters, multi-story car parks or where to get parking permits. Perhaps there is a park and ride scheme where we could get a bus from just out of towm ...

I wondered if anybody living locally had any comments ...

I speak some Danish so it's not a problem if you want to recommend a website that is only på dansk.

Tusind Tak

Århus Copenhagen to Arhus transfer
Posted: Fri March 30, 2007 05:27 PM UTC
Hi,
I'm travelling from London to join the tall ships race in July which starts at Arhus.

I can fly in to Arhus the night before (the flight arrives too late on the day of departure from port), or on the same day to Copenhagen and then have to transfer to Arhus - how long would that take and what are the options. Is a taxi feasible. Likely costs?
Public transport would be OK but I'm a wheelchair user so public transport maybe difficult particularly as I will have two weeks kit with me(not used public transport in Denmark before).

Suggestions/recommendations gratefully received. Thanks for your help.

Århus Aarhus to Copenhagen
Posted: Tue January 23, 2007 02:12 AM UTC
Hi,
Could anyone give me some information as to how to travel from Aarhus to Copenhagen, either by bus or train? which one is cheaper?
What do you recommend?
I'm flying to Aarhus this Friday with my girlfriend and I was thinking of staying there for one and a half or two days then going to Copenhagen for another 2-3 days. If the fares of travelling Aarhus-Copenhagen are high I might want to consider not coming back and taking a plane back to London from Copenhagen instead. That's why I need to know the price of this internal travel, I've been looking but I can not find reliable information.
A flight back to London from Copenhagen is about £25-30.

What do you think?

Thanks to all in advance.

Århus recent weather
Posted: Wed August 23, 2006 02:38 PM UTC
I have been in Copenhagen for the past two weeks, and besides a few outbreaks of sunshine, it has been a bit chilly and rainy. I wonder if the weather has been similar in Arhus? I am planning on visiting there next week, and although I forgot my crystal ball, I am really hoping for some sunshine...

Århus World Cup
Posted: Tue May 23, 2006 12:13 PM UTC
I'll be in Aarhus for a couple of weeks over the world cup.

Not a fanatic supporter, but I would like to see the England-Sweden game.

Problem is the mate I'm staying with has absolutely NO interest in football.

Can anyone recommend a place in town to go and see it? Anyone fancy meeting up to see it?

jeg lærer dansk her i London så svar på dansk bliver også godt.

Hello,

I'm flying to Arhus airport on Friday and then hope to get a train to Aalborg. I've got the train from Arhus to Aalborg before but I didn't have to travel from the airport. Is the airport far from the city and are there buses running from airport to train station?

Thanks for any help,

Århus VT Meeting in Aarhus on Wednesday 1st Sept
Posted: Sun August 29, 2004 07:46 AM UTC
Just a quick reminder that ImogenCharlotte from London, Szvilia from Hungary and me. MikeStarr5 from London plus several Danish friends are meeting for a beer or two on Wednesday 1st September from 8.00pm onwards at Paddy's Bar by the canal in Central Aarhus.

It's not often that VT meetings are held in Aarhus, so please try your best to come along if you live in, or are visiting the area.

To make us easy to spot, we will put a red sign saying Danish Meetup on our table.

Hope to see you there.
