| San José | Do we jus tstay in SanHose or is there a beach as well that is good for value? Posted: Sat September 2, 2006 12:10 PM UTC
Hello:
My partner and I are looking to visit Costa Rica and have heard that it is gay positive. Not sure how to arrange a good flight at a decent price or how to sort out a good hotel in the Costa Rica? I have heard of Colors? Is it good value. I like a nice hotel bu t do not want to waste all the money on a hotel either. My partner is older so prefer not to have 8000 steps unless there is an elevator as well. Not sure if how to find a good place in the core, or how difficult, it would be to then spend a couple of days at the ocean? Are there gay positive places in Costa Rica? We are also looking at Mexico or Ft Lauderdale. Really would like your help please, as have never boooked a trip before on our own like this. A little lost here :) |

| San José | giozano Posted: Sat August 26, 2006 05:37 AM UTC
I have never been to Costa Rica; I will be in San Jose for about six days and was told The Hotel Del Rey had a nice casino, several nice restaurants but is a "haven" for prostitutes. Is the area around this hotel safe? I will be by myself for a few days and I love walking - even at night; but I am concerned about staying away from any problems - in other words, I just want to gamble a little bit, do some sightseeing and have a good time. Is this hotel going to be all right for a 6 day stay AND is there a travel department where I can make arrangements to see the rainforests, volcano and pyramids? I will await a reply. e-mail at giozano@aol.com

My husband and I are taking our young children for a 2 week holiday in costa rica. We have rented a 4WD truck and are travling from San Jose to Manuel Antonio, then to Monteverde and then to Guanacaste before returning to San Jose. We were on the fence about renteing a car and have finally decided to to for a rental instead of private transfers. I would welcome any any all advise, thoughts, suggestions on driving in costa rica. Also, can anyone recommend a really good highway map?

My husband recently made reservations at this hotel. I have no idea where it is or anything about the place. Can someone give me some information? How far is it from San Jose and is it anywhere near a beach?

| San José | when is the least smog? Posted: Wed May 24, 2006 05:34 PM UTC
I am hoping to travel to Costa Rica. I have searched every weather page I know of and none give the air quality or smog readings, as we have for cities here in the US. I have severe asthma that is bothered by smog. I want to pick the least smoggy time to come to Costa Rica. I was hoping to come in August of this year. Can anyone tell me what is their experience of the least smoggy months? And is there any website anywhere that lists the San José air quality readings? Also how far out of San José do you have to get to escape the smog? I would really appreciate help from anyone who is knowledgeable about this as it is my dream to come to Costa Rica but I don't want to get really ill there. Thank you so much.

| San José | Seeking Temporary Education Posted: Mon April 3, 2006 08:14 PM UTC
A friend of mine and her 7 year-old daughter are going down to San Jose, Costa Rica in May. Her daughter is already somewhat fluent in Spanish. She wants to find a school for her daughter to attend but can't afford anywhere near the $1000 or so that some private schools are charging.
Might someone have any other suggestions about where her daughter could go? Robert |

| San José | Help sharing fishing boat Posted: Fri February 10, 2006 11:18 PM UTC
Hello: I will be around Quepos, Costa Rica from March 4-12. The people I am travelling with are not interested in fishing. So I am looking for other fishermen in the same situation who are interested in sharing a boat out of Quepos for one day. Preferably off shore for sailfish, but inshore would also be okay.

Does the beauty of the trip driving by car justify the time it will take versus flying to San Jose and driving to Domonical?? |

| San José | Tico Shamanistic Culture Posted: Sat August 6, 2005 02:35 PM UTC
Hey all,
I'll be in Costa Rica for just under a week this August and was wondering if anyone with an interest in shamanism could point me in the direction of something interesting in this regard while I'm there. I'll be in San Jose working for a few days but will have a weekend or maybe three days off. If there are cultural centers dedicated to local pre-colombian traditions and beliefs I'd love to hear about them, or better yet if someone knows a Shaman and could 'recommend' one then that would be very, very cool indeed. Thanks in advance! |

Hello, I'll be going to Costa Rica in the wet season and I'd like to hop from location, hotel to hotel, without making commitments of reservation. Is this feasible? Will I need reservations in the majority of places I go, or are there usually enough vacancies and is this system accepted? Help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you, Christopher |

| San José | Airport question Posted: Mon April 25, 2005 01:22 AM UTC
I know this is kinda a crazy idea, but would it be safe if me and a friend got to San Jose and instead of paying money to get a taxi both ways to pay more money for a hotel/hostel, we can just hang out from 8 pm til our flight in the morning at the same airport 6 am? would that be a sane or safe thing to do? Just wondering what you guys think.

| San José | Need Tips On What to See/Do While in San Jose Area Posted: Fri March 4, 2005 12:28 AM UTC
Hello Friends,
I will be in San Jose, Costa Rica, March 21 - 25. This will be my home-base. Where/What are the popular sights that I should not miss during my visit? Can you recommend local restaurants and tour companies. What is the temperature like during this time? Can I survive without renting a car? Is the water safe to drink (I keep getting conflicting info on this one)? Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks, aries411 |

| San José | Driving in Costa Rica Posted: Tue February 15, 2005 01:01 AM UTC
Hi. My wife and I will be in C.R. for almost two weeks in May and were thinking of renting a car for the time period. We're flying in and out of San Jose and would like to drive to some of the nearby attractions before heading to the Guanacaste area for a business meeting.
Should we drive ourselves around or take a bus back and forth between San Jose and Guanacaste? Thanks for the advice... |

| San José | Travel itinerary advice Posted: Sun January 9, 2005 05:14 PM UTC
My family and I are traveling to Costa Rica on March 26th and returning a week later for our 4th visit. We have always traveled West to the Pacific coast and have traveled extensively North & South. My question: We are considering traveling due South of San Jose through Cartago heading ultimatley to Golfito sticking to an inland route. Should we do this? Where do we lodge?, What is there to see & do? Or could you talk us out of this itinerary and stick with what we know already? Your responses would be greatly appreciated.

| San José | Car Rental Insurance in Costa Rica Posted: Thu January 6, 2005 07:20 PM UTC
Hello!
We're going to CR for our ten year anniversary, starting in San Jose, driving to Playa Hermosa and Arenal for a few days, then back to San Jose. I'm renting a car through the hotel, but do I need the CDW insurance? Just wondering if this is an unecessary thing or if I should get it. So far I have not opted to get it yet. Thanks! |
