| Caracas | Airport bus, Caracas Posted: Sun April 20, 2008 07:07 AM UTC
Last year I went straight from the airport to Rodovias bus terminal. The airport bus took one hour from the airport to Parque Central. This was before the bridge was finished and it was a Sunday (less traffic I think). Well, how long does the journey with the bus takes now, early in a morning (going from the centre to the airport)?

| Caracas | Budget accommodation in Caracas - Plaza Catedral Hotel Posted: Sun April 20, 2008 07:05 AM UTC
Last time I visited Venezuela I didn’t stay in Caracas, but next time I would like to stay there for a couple of days to see a few museums and take the Teleferico to El Avila. The question is where I should stay? Many areas are considered unsafe in Caracas and I’m travelling alone. Well, I want to stay at a nice budget hotel near the sights. Plaza Catedral Hotel is recommended in Lonely Planet and the good thing is that they have a top-floor restaurant (which means I can stay inside the hotel after dark). Has anyone stayed at that hotel? What is your opinion in that case?
Can anyone recommend another nice budget hotel? |

| Caracas | CAR RENTAL Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 11:15 AM UTC
Hi everybody!
We are planning a trip to Venezuela by the end of May and looking for car rentals. All the sites regarding Caracas Airport car hire offices are giving very high price levels- ca 60 USD per day. Does anybody know, are the prices given like "official" exchange rates? I mean, if I try to exchange dollars in "black market", I can get a car with much more price? It can be so, if the price in dollars is not fixed? Thanks! Lauri from Estonia |

| Caracas | Share apartment in Caracas? Posted: Sat March 8, 2008 12:18 AM UTC
Hi!
I want to rent a room in an apartment in Caracas betwwen the end of march until may (or from the end of april until the end of may depending on the prize). I´m checking out websites like compartoapto, porlapuerta and tuinmueble but haven´t found anything interesting yet. I would like to share an apartment with young (or young-minded) people and if there was internet access that would be great. I´ve been a lot in latin america and this will be my third time in Caracas, speaks decent castellano and are a nice and outgoing mate. So, does anyone has any ideas? |

| Caracas | In reality, how dangerous is Caracas? Posted: Fri October 12, 2007 01:35 PM UTC
I am an 18 year old American girl. I attend an international school in Norway and have traveled extensively, including to Mexico, Argentina, and Uruguay. I also speak passable Spanish. My boyfriend is Venezuelan and lives in Caracas and I am planning on going home with him for Christmas/New Year's this year. My parents are completely against this. They are certain I will get shot/stabbed/raped at some point in Caracas. They think I will be harassed by security and customs officials at the airport for being an American and for being a woman traveling alone. They are sure I will be a target for crime because I am American/white.
I am wondering how dangerous Caracas really is for an American. I will be with my boyfriend and his Venezuelan family the whole time so I only have to navigate the airport alone. Is it reasonable for me to fight to go to Caracas, or is the danger as severe and real as my parents think? |

I am wondering how good will it be for a family with two teenage kids, (English speaking)I am also wondering what Universities are in the city for students of English Language and one for Latin American Studies and English,(the Arts). | Caracas | Spaish Language Schools in Caracas Posted: Fri May 4, 2007 03:18 PM UTC
I am moving to Caracas in June and want to take a Spanish language course. I am looking for a group class that is hopefully everyday. I was hoping to study with CEVES but when I registered, they said they are fully booked until Novemeber despite saying otherwise beforehand.
Does anyone know any other place in Caracas that offers Spanish language courses? I have searched and searched but found nothing. Thank you. |

| Caracas | internship @ Universidad central de Venezuela Posted: Mon April 2, 2007 04:59 AM UTC
Hello,
I am getting worried with the posts about difficulties finding places to stay. I need to rent a furnished room for May&June near a metro as I am doing an internship at the university. I hear there are no residences available there and that the area it is in is actually not safe. Any suggestions would be awesome! |

If your advice is meant to be helpful, do you think it wise to scare everyone? All one needs is the same street knowledge that works everywhere. The question is, do you think one should walk with confidence, or dress like a drab with no adornment at all, and live like a scared bunny rabbit?

| Caracas | Vacation Rental: HOUSE or APARTMENT Posted: Tue February 27, 2007 02:50 AM UTC
Who We Are: Eight young professionals guys (mostly doctors) with extensive travel experience in South America.
What We Seek: A House or a couple apartments to rent for our annual vacation in early April 2007. Apartment rental seems quite difficult in Caracas. Is the same true for housing? We will find a hotel as a last resort, but we typically prefer the comfort and convenience of a house or apartment. We appreciate any and all advice. Thank You, Terry |

| Caracas | Accommodation (budget) in Caracas Posted: Thu February 15, 2007 09:45 AM UTC
Hi
I'm getting very mixed reports about the safety of Caracas. Some have said it's an amazing city and some have said to avoid it like the plague. I'm hoping to stay there for a few days later in the year while travelling S.America. Can you recommend a hotel that is $25 approx or under per night in a reasonable area of the city please? I'm also well aware every city in the world has its safety issues but are there areas besides the Barrios to be avoided. cheers |
