We are going to be spending some time in Montevideo on vacation this month and we are also looking for someone to show us around the city who has knowledge of relocating to that city, information on real estate, international schools, pleasant neighborhoods and travel opportunities nearby. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Montevideo Montevideo accomodation?
Posted: Thu October 25, 2007 04:47 PM UTC
Is there anyone that could give us some recommendations of an ok hotel or hostel to stay at in Montevideo? Me and my girlfriend will stay one week in the middle of november and would like to find a room for about 30-40 USD/night.
I have read that ciudad vieja is not the best place to stay at regarding safety. We would of course want to stay in an area where you can go out and eat or have a drink at the evening and therefore we were thinking about the city center. Anyone that have any suggestions?
It would be a big plus if it is within walking distance of Estadio Cenetario.
Thanks!

Montevideo 3 Months in Montevideo
Posted: Wed September 19, 2007 05:05 PM UTC
We're a Belgian married couple (68 & 64 y. old) and we'll stay in Montevideo from November 21th 2007 till February 16th 2008. From Montevideo, we plan to make some trips in Uruguay and also visit Argentina, maybe Brasil.
Two questions: could you please give us some tips about renting a car, e.g. is it more interesting to rent it for a longer period, are there local renting agencies that offer interesting rates?
Second question: is it possible to meet interesting people in Montevideo who could asssist us in spending these nearly 3 months in an interesting way?
Thank you all out there for your reactions.

Montevideo travel times, hotels, restaurants, towns, weather, etc.
Posted: Fri September 7, 2007 04:52 PM UTC
hi,
ive been reading lots of postings in uruguay forums and since there is so much good advice, im posting: my wife, 16 month-old son, and i will arrive lima oct 1. then to ba oct 3. planning ba-colonia ferry on 10/10. 2 nights in colonia, then rent a car friday, 10/12 in the morning and on 10/19 turn car in back in colonia, and ferry back to ba.
so, on 10/12 after picking up car, should we go to mvd for a night? 2 nights? thought soccer game sunday might be fun, but not mandatory. or drive colonia to atlantida (we definitely will spend at least one night there. or is weekend better in atlantida? is piriapolis worth staying in? definitely will stop and look around even if dont spend the night (either on way east or west). must see punta del este but, knowing its generally more expensive, is it better to stay somewhere close and visit, or is it worth staying there? stay in maldonado? also want to see la barra, jose ignacio, punta del diablo. probably must stay last night in colonia, or at least mvd to get back for ferry. no discos, no long fancy dinners, remember baby. he is a good traveler already, but avoiding too much daily driving, and/or too long drives can only help. thanks for any advice, especially driving times between all these places.
are these correct? colonia-mvd, 3 hours. mvd-atlantida, 1 hour. atlantida pde, 1 hour.

Montevideo Nice cheap hostel/hotel in Uruguay
Posted: Wed June 13, 2007 12:57 PM UTC
My friend and I (two girls) are planning on staying one night in Montevideo on 25th June. Does anyone have any recommendations re: safe, (reasonably nice) cheap accomodation in the capital? We'd prefer to be somewhere near the main attractions. Anything up to £10/night each.
P.S. Any with websites/email addresses would be particularly helpful! :-)

Montevideo Travelling from Montevideo to Iguassu Falls
Posted: Wed May 2, 2007 12:43 PM UTC
My friend and I are travelling around South America for one month, beginning June 21st. We are planning to travel from Montevideo to the Iguassu Falls, and would like some info on how to do so. We don't want to fork out for a plane ticket, so is there a way of going by bus or by train? If so, what route would we take and how long approximately would the journey be? We have heard about night buses and that seems like a good idea, but if this would be a scenic journey, we don't want to miss it! Any suggestions on the best way to do it? Thanks for looking :-)

Montevideo 3 Irish guys partying in June
Posted: Mon April 16, 2007 10:21 AM UTC
Hello all,

My self and two of my buddies will be in Montevideo for the weekend 8th to 11th of June and have a few questions?

Could you recommend the best area to stay in in order to be in the thick of things with regard to nightlife?
Could you recommend Hotels that are in or close to the best nighlife for $200 each a night max?
Could you recommend best bars, clubs, wine bars etc?
How cold will it be in June?
Could you recommend one "Must Do" for 3 twenty somethings in Montevideo?
Are there any food markets?

Cheers,

Montevideo I just can't find a map for this hotel
Posted: Thu April 12, 2007 08:51 PM UTC
We will be staying at Days Inn at 1821 Acevedo Diaz Street. I have tried and tried for an online map for this place but every site that has "map" ends up, "sorry, no map available" We will be driving from the airport. Anyone know an online map? (it's across the street from the main bus terminal) I'm sure I can get a map when I get my rental car. I just want to get a rough idea of it's location for now. btw, google earth doesn't show either the bus terminal nor the obelisk. I would think those two would be important landmarks.

Thanks for any help

Hi,

I will be coming to Montevideo to live in May and June. I will be studying Spanish and have an internship at a public relations company in the city while staying with a family. I do not know anyone at all going into this and I have never been to South America in general. If you have any tips at all...how to meet people, safety tips, culture, fashion, weather, etc. they would be greatly appreciated. Less than a month now!

Thank you,

Montevideo Hotels, Websites?
Posted: Mon April 2, 2007 06:31 PM UTC
I'm planning to be in Montevideo for a few days in June 2007. I'd like to stay in Ciudad Vieja - mainly because I like the historic districts of any city. I'm having a hard time finding hotels online in that area though. Does anyone have any recommendations or websites they can point me to? I'm looking for a room with a balcony in Ciudad Vieja for less than $50 US per night. Thanks!

Montevideo Do I have enough time to get from MV to EZE by *land* ??
Posted: Sat March 31, 2007 07:09 AM UTC
I'm about to book a hotel in MV and realized I need to know if I can make it back to EZE in time. We check out of the hotel in MV Sun May 13 and our flight leaves at 2130 same day. Figuring I should be there 2 hrs before departure, if I check out at around 9am, that would give me about 10 hours to get from MV to EZE. Is that feasible? I haven't made plans on how to get to and from MV yet. So I guess that would help, but for now, does 10 hours sound about right via land, or maybe a ferry?
Thanks for any help
Eddie
ps, I found a 4-star hotel, Days Inn Obelisco thru Orbitz. $33 a day with all taxes. Any comments on this hotel?

Montevideo Montevideo visit
Posted: Mon March 12, 2007 05:31 AM UTC
My wife and I are thinking of staying one week in BsAs and one week in Montevideo. What is the cheapest way to get from one city to the other? Any recommends on a nice but not overly expensive place to stay? (hotel, B&B, apartment {no hostel}) How about the price difference between the two cities? Both about the same, or one generally cheaper than the other? Our plans were to stay two weeks in BsAs but seeing that another country is so close, We thought that it would be nice to see one more country. We both speak Spanish.
Any ideas?
