Montevideo Gay/Gay-friendly Establishments
Posted: Sun October 18, 2009 10:55 PM UTC
I am taking a break from 2 weeks in BA the first of November and want to spend a couple of days in Montevideo. Am having trouble finding info. about bars, resturants, cafes, etc. that are gay or gay-friendly....although if they don't open until 2AM I probably won't cross their door! Also is the easiest way to travel there by Buquebus's ferry? Thanks for any suggestions.

Montevideo hotel

I arrive in montevideo with my mum late afternoon and leave the following night on the 7pm ferry back to BA.Where would you recommend a hotel thats not new and modern but a place with a balcony that really feels like you are in uruguay.
Also as we are only there for short time we need to stay somewhere very central to cram everything in.Is it possible to see most things in such a short time or should we organize a half day tour with a guide to get the most out of our stay.
sorry for so many queries...

Montevideo BA - Montevideo - Colonia - BA - Ferry Bus Combo
Posted: Tue July 7, 2009 12:06 PM UTC
Hi I have had a look at Buquebus and Colonia express sites and cant clearly work out if I can do following

1. Fast Ferry - Bus BA to Montevideo --- no problem on both sites
2. Bus from Montevideo - early morning to Colonia and then evening fast ferry back to BA. - not sure if I can do this - if you take a particular bus from MV to Colonia are you tied to next ferry.

Clearly I could take any bus from Montevideo by any company and just buy ferry ticket from Colonia to BA.

What Im hoping to do is take advantage of Colonia express returns which may let me do the lot for $165 .. one way tickets seem much more costly.

Not sure if i have explained this well but lets see what people think ?
Thank you in advance

Montevideo Accommodation in Montevideo
Posted: Fri December 5, 2008 10:00 PM UTC
Hi there, I've already a reservation at the NH Columbia hotel, but frankly am not sure that it's really worth the extra money...

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced hotel (40-60USD), preferably ensuite rooms, central location (or alternatively near the beaches...!).

Any tips MUCH appreciated.

Hello everyone! I'm thinking of visiting 2 or 3 beaches in Uruguay this summer: La Paloma, La Pedrera and one more, but I can't find any cheap accommodation. I'm thinking 35 dollars tops for a double room with bathroom.

Can anyone help me? :)

Montevideo Direct ferry from Buenos Aires to Montevideo
Posted: Mon August 25, 2008 04:16 AM UTC
Can someone tell me how I can purchase tickets for the direct ferry to Montevideo from Buenos Aires. The Buquebus site will not give me access to online purchase, but does allow me to see schedules. I live in U.S., don't speak Spanish, so telephoning the ferry office was a waste of time; I tried.
Need tickets in October, and want to purchase in advance. Also, is it necessary to purchase in advance. I need the early (08:00) ferry and don't want to go by way of Colonia.
Thanks for any help.

Montevideo Safety & Nice Walking Areas - Montevideo
Posted: Tue April 8, 2008 11:37 AM UTC
Hey all - I'm in the process of planning a trip to Montevideo and I'd just like some extra information on safety there..e.g. how safe is it to walk with a camera in parts of the city...what areas to avoid...what areas not to miss.

Also, what are some areas where it's nice to just walk for a while and enjoy the weather, and are there any possible side trips from Motevideo besides Colonia that are worth checking out? Any information would be helpful - thanks!!

Montevideo Travel Montevideo to Igauzu or Buenes Aires
Posted: Fri January 4, 2008 04:57 PM UTC
Hi,

I'll be in Rio in October and plan to travel to Iguazu then onto Montevideo and along the coast to BA from there BUT the reviews of the bus journey from Foz de Igauzu to Montevideo are less than compelling.

Can anyone suggest a better way of doing this? After BA we plan to head up to Bolivia and that seems best from Buenes Aires, so would Rio to BA to Igauzu to Montevideo be less hassle.

I'm not fussed bussing/planes, whatever is the best value for less hassle!!

Thanks much, Gav
