I am planning to travel from Aranya Prather (Thailand) to Siem Preap/Angkor Wat around the 20th/21st December with my girlfriend. I was just wondering how easy this is to do and if there are any dangers to be aware of. Any help would be much appreciated.

HCMC to Bangkok via Angkor Wat Posted: Thu October 8, 2009 11:27 AM UTC
Hello. Anyone help with timescales for bus/train/taxi from Saigon to Bangkok, taking in Angkor Wat. We only have maximum of four days to complete this segment, so just wondering if we're being silly even to contemplate it and maybe we should get a flight from SGN to REP or REP to BKK.

Angkor Wat open on January 1, 2010? Posted: Mon September 14, 2009 01:58 PM UTC
We are traveling to Thailand and Cambodia during December and our travel schedule has us arriving in Siem Reap on December 31st. We were planning to visit Angkor Wat on January 1st, but are unsure as to whether it will be open to tourists or closed for a national holiday. Could someone please let us know if we should change our travel plans.

Siem Riep to Kanchanaburi Posted: Tue September 8, 2009 05:30 AM UTC
After spending time in Siem Riep we would like to go to Kanchanaburi. Do we have to go to Bangkok and then north to Kanchanaburi or is there somewhere were we can get a train or bus so we don't have to backtrack to Bangkok?
Thank you,

Getting back to Bangkok Posted: Mon August 31, 2009 12:30 AM UTC
We have extra time. Is there a long way over land or with a boat that we can see more of the country side and get back to Bangkok? I don't mind to stop for a few days somewhere else.

Hi, I'll have a few extra days and we can spend them around Siem Riep. I've been to Anchor Watt before and will do it again but what outside of the area is really worth going to see?

Visiting Siem Reap's Schools and Making Donations Posted: Tue August 18, 2009 01:23 PM UTC
Hi all,
I will be visiting Siem Reap for the first time in Oct 09 and am very very keen to donate stationery and other items to the schools there. Due to luggage allowance, I am thinking of buying the items when I get there. I understand that there will be some scams, such as overcharging, by small bookshops near the schools.
Can anyone help me by recommending a trustworthy stationery or bookshop in the Siem Reap area? I am targeting to buy pencils, erasers, maybe even books by the thousands!
Also, if you happen to know of any legitimate charity or organisations I can work with regarding this donation, I would be most happy! I have written to several, but only received around 2 replies via email (probably due to the lack of internet services there?).
Thanks a lot everyone!

Getting around, do I need a tour guide and others Posted: Fri July 31, 2009 01:01 AM UTC
Hi, we are two ladies planning to go to Siem Reap. We have a limited budget for our trip so we can't splurge but still want to have a great time. Hope any of you can help answer some questions on the following :
1. How much to rent a tuk-tuk for the day?
2. Do I need a tour guide when I visit Angkor Wat & Angkor Thom?
3. Where is the best place to change money; bank, money changer?
4. Any good & inexpensive Khmer & French restaurants in the city?
Thanks in advance for your help :)

Angkor Wat & HCMC Posted: Mon June 15, 2009 06:38 AM UTC
Hi there!
I'm planning on a tour to Angkor Wat and HCMC departing from Singapore in the week of 25th July till 1st August 2009.
I'm wondering whether it's enough time for me to cover the major attractions since I'm going for both? I know it's long bus journey to travel from HCMC to Angkor Wat... and I'm not sure whether it's worth it for me to travel by bus or it would be better to just take a flight? Which route is the best : HCMC - Angkor Wat or vice versa?
Any suggestions on the itinerary as I'm pretty flexible and also because I'll be travelling alone. Would appreciate if you can provide some good backpackers accommodation too (looking at USD15 - 20 per nite). Also, I heard it will be very hot during this time to travel, but then again I have no choice to do so now as due to work committments.
Hope to get some feedback soon.
Thanks, guys!
Cheers!

which hotel? Posted: Sat May 9, 2009 01:26 PM UTC
can't decide between a 20$ hotel with no pool and a 50$+ with pool.
Am considering the following options:
Golden Banana, Auberge Mont Royal,Casa Angkor, La Noria, Borann,Claremont
We are a 50-6- yr old couple and we are not interested in massages or luxurious places, but just homey and comfortable, clean and a/c

beginning stages, please bear with me... Posted: Fri May 1, 2009 07:09 AM UTC
not asking about weather or lodging...
1. Would kindly ask for people's logistical experience on the most direct route and mode of transport to A.W. to and from the closest Int. airport?
2. We will have an ASEAN airpass good to visit multiple countries in Asia and A.W. would be great to experience and squeeze in but we are very short on time. Lousy question, but what is the fastest time frame (airport-travel-A.W. compound-and back) could BE done? Would love to do it predawn, is that possible?
Thanks everyone!

2.we're vegetarians and want a hotel where the manager/staff/chef would accomodate us.
3.is it fairly ok to get into the main eating areas in town by tuk tuk from this hotel?
any other recommendations welcome.
we were also considering tara angkor and victoria angkor resort and spa.

Latest info on overland route from Siem Reap to Bangkok? Posted: Wed March 11, 2009 05:09 PM UTC
I'm currently is Siem Reap and will be on my way to Bangkok in a few days. I'm told that the cost to hire a driver and car from SR to the Thai border (Poiphet) is $35 USD (for the entire car, not per person) and now only takes about 1.5-2 hours. Then after crossing the border take a 6 hour bus to Bangkok for $9 USD. Is this true? Has anybody travelled this overland route recently? How did you go about it?
Seat61 suggests the train from the border to BKK but I'm told here that the bus is recommended. This info is from my guesthouse and tomorrow I'm gonna shop around for prices but would like to know the latest info from anyone. I checked out the forums but most are rather old given the upgraded paved conditions of some roads here. I could pay about $12 USD for bus the whole way from SR-BKK but was told its about 12 hours total and rather grueling! Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Siem Reap to Vientiane Posted: Mon February 23, 2009 09:18 PM UTC
Hi there
I'm planning to travel to Cambodia in early May and am hoping to head for Laos after visiting Angkor. Unfortunately I am only in the region for two weeks and would like to get from Siem Reap to Vientiane as quickly as possible. Does anyone know if there are flights operating between the two destinations? The last I heard - Siem Reap Airways was grounded & they were the only airline operating out of Siem Reap. Is this the case or are there any other airlines flying directly to Vientiane?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :o)

Angkor Wat in March Posted: Tue February 17, 2009 05:39 AM UTC
I'm planning to bring my parents who are in their 60s to Angkor Wat in early March. Can anyone advise if it is a good time or is the weather condition too harsh for the 2 old folks? And also, may I know where is a good place to stay so that it will be easier for them to travel to the temples, as well as the best way to travel from temple to temple with minimal walking for them? Thanks in advance everyone!!!
