Cusco Student ID?
Posted: Mon July 16, 2007 09:08 PM UTC
Am considering buying Boleto Turisticos when in Cusco next month and noticed that there were student prices with an ISIC card. Would my children, ages 14 and 17, be able to buy student tickets without any special identification? Thanks.

Cusco Machu Picchu Train
Posted: Sat May 5, 2007 09:30 PM UTC
Is it necessary to buy tickets for the train to MP in advance or can I just get them when I arrive in Cuzco? I'll be buying a ticket from Ollantaytambo and then a return ticket back to Cuzco.

Cusco Is 2 days in Aguas Calientes too much?...vs Cusco
Posted: Tue April 3, 2007 06:32 PM UTC
I'll be there May 9-14.

I only have about 5 days in Cusco area....thinking of 3 in Cusco and 2 in Aguas Calientes to be close to MP. Now the latest guide book says there isn't a whole lot to AC except heat and humidty.

Would you suggest 4 days in Cusco & 1 in AC, or will I find enough things to to for 2 in AC (& 3 in Cusco)? I'd like to see around the area a bit in AC, and catch MP at sunrise and after the tourists go home. I'd take the train to and from AC.

Nightlife in Cusco doesn't interest me, seeing the city and area does, Pisac market on sunday, maybe a hike or two if I can handle the thin air, or dare I say a mountain bike ride???...

Cusco Inexpensive Hotels in Sacred Valley
Posted: Mon April 2, 2007 06:17 AM UTC
I'm looking for a hotel/hostel/B&B in the Sacred Valley that is less than $50/night, but has rooms with private bathrooms. I would like to stay in Ollantaytambo or Urubamba. I have contacted several that are already booked, so if there are any that may be less well known but are still good, clean places to stay, please let me know!! My family and I will be staying for one night at the Kuychi Rumi, but would like to stay somewhere less spendy for the other two days in the SV.

THANKS!

Cusco Train to Aguas Calientes
Posted: Thu March 29, 2007 01:19 AM UTC
Hi guys,

and Im sorry if you have seen these questions before :)

I and my girlfriend will be arriving( by flight from Lima) in Cusco at 14.15 on a Thursday (in early September). I was wondering if there was a chance to get to Aguas Calientes by train on that same day? I just cant find a timetable online. Does the train ride really last 5 hours?

And could anybody recommend a nice hotel in Cusco with double room ranging from USD 50-80 a night?

Cusco Where to stay in Cuzco- solo american girl traveler
Posted: Tue March 27, 2007 01:38 AM UTC
American girl traveling solo in Cuzco the middle of May. I am looking for any reccomendations of where to stay in Cusco and Aguas Calientes. I will be traveling alone so am looking for a safe, inexpensive private room with it's own bathroom. I don't mind a hostel as long as I get my own room and bathroom. Also do I need to book ahead of time or should I wait until I get there to try to negotiate a good price?

Cusco inca trail closed ?????
Posted: Sat March 17, 2007 02:43 PM UTC
HI esteemed members,

I am trying to book the 2 day trek in May. Looks like its closed. I have contacted about 4 to 5 local operators. They say the train is available but the trek is not available. Is it fully booked out??? I cant see the reason as not even one date is available entire May. Can someone suggest alternate trails or some other local tourist treking agencies?

Cusco Local Tourist Agency
Posted: Thu March 15, 2007 05:03 PM UTC
Hello all --

I'm planning on being in Cusco in July and wanted to visit the rainforest for 3-4 days. I was debating buying a tour in advance or buying one from a local agent when I arrive. Does anyone have any ideas on this? I'm concerned about costs and would prefer to give the money to a local agent versus a big international company.

If anyone can also suggest a good agency, I'd appreciate it.

Cusco Inca Trail Footwear
Posted: Tue March 13, 2007 01:57 AM UTC
Hey, planning on doing an Inca Trail trip in July and was wondering about appropriate footwear. The Trail is the most hiking we are going to do on the trip, so I was wondering to get some real decent hiking boots or just some sturdier-than-usual sneakers.

Thanks!

Cusco Short budget trip for Amazon taste
Posted: Fri March 9, 2007 06:35 PM UTC
Will be in Cusco soon for Machu Picchu. Thinking on doing a 2 day Inca trail tour. Only have about a week in Cusco.

Does anyone know, have any suggestions on trying to do a 2 or 3 day trip to get a taste of the Amazon?
I see for Maldonado you have to fly. May be out of my budget.
Can you bus reasonably with some tour group into the Amazon and maybe stay in a lodge for a night or two? I know itīs sort of scraping on time and money, but I just figure to at least try something.
This is a last minute booked trip, coming all this way to Peru for Machu Picchu, itīd be nice to get in some of the Amazon if possible.
Time and budget sort of work against me.

Anybody have any experiences with this?
Checked about 12 tour websites today. See many offer the Maldonado and Manu, but itīs either too much money for me, or too long of time.
I can afford maybe another $150-$200US and another 2-3days in additon to the Machu Picchu part.

Thanks in advance!

My trip spends 2 nts in the SV, then 2 nts in Cusco, then 2 nts in Puno. Should I be concerned about altitude? also, is it a big adjustment from Cusco to Puno?

Cusco Question about packing and soroche..
Posted: Tue February 20, 2007 11:53 PM UTC
Hi all, I'm planning to visit Cusco on a volunteer vacation in April. Can anyone tell me what to pack? Also, I'm a little anxious (mild understatement) about altitude sickness. I'm allergic to sulfa drugs so Diamox etc is not a possibility. I'll be flying from Lima to Cusco. What should I expect? Any advice?

Cusco Itinerary and Altitude concern
Posted: Wed January 10, 2007 11:46 AM UTC
We will be traveling to Cuzco and Machu Picchu in mid-Feb. We arrive in Cuzco on Sun. at 11:25 (from Lima), and plan to tour a bit of the city that afternoon. We want to go to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, and are unsure if we can do MP on Mon., so we can go to the Pisac Market (open Tues/Thurs/Sun) and rest of Sacred Valley on Tues. Is that enough time to become altitude-acclimated? Or should we wait until Tues. to go to MP, and do what we can in the Sacred Valley on Mon.? Our group of 4 includes one 61 and 3 68 year olds, in fairly good health (2 with high blood pressure, medically controlled) and moderate fitness. thanks.

Cusco Anyone going to Cuzco in the near future? Your help is needed!
Posted: Mon November 20, 2006 02:32 AM UTC
I have lost some pictures in the transfer from memory card to a memory stick. I tried everything to retrieve the data on my card but the best pictures are missing!!! I am wondering if a fellow VT er would kindly go to the internet cafe for me and request them to look for my lost pictures in their computer...

It would only take a couple of minutes and the internet cafe is close to the main square.

If you can help me, please respond and I will send you the details.

Thanks, KAti

Cusco Cusco Tour Reservations?

Before we take the Incan Trail hike, do you think we should hire tour operators to show us around the sites in Cusco? Any recommendations? I figure we have 3 full days to see sites around Cusco, and then a fourth after our hike.
