Cuzco Advance Physical Preparations
Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 12:00 PM UTC
Heading to Cuzco next April. Very excited but concerned about altitude and steps. I'm 66 years old and walk a mile every day. I am in good health HOWEVER I live at 7 feet above sea level (Miami, FL) and have no steps in or near my home.

I am considering having a simple set of steps built from concerete block in my back yard. Will this be helpful or am I getting carried away?

Cuzco Any suggestions on travelling by land from Guayaquil to Cuzco? Is it worth it or should I just fly?
Posted: Thu March 13, 2008 05:03 AM UTC
I am taking the bar exam this July and am planning to see my family in Guayaquil Ecuador in August. I wanted to go to Machu Picchu from there. I know I need to arrive in Cuzco and then I am all set. I have heard about taking a bus from Guayaquil to Tumber in Peru or Mancora in Peru but I have no idea how long it takes. Once I arrive to either of those town, where do I go from there? If you have any knowledge or any suggestions to make it to Machu Picchu in the most economical way (from Ecuador), I would really appreacite it.
Do you know anything about Peru Rail? Is it safe? Or am I just better off flying from Guayaquil to Cuzco?

Thanks.

How hard is this trek? Do you need very good physical condtition. We are planning to do some mountaineering till the trip.

Cuzco Sumac Wasi?

Has anyone stayed here? I will be visiting Cuzco for a week in September and they have apartments available which will be great, but am hoping someone may have first-hand knowledge of the place. I've been there before and stayed at the Casa Andina Koricha(sp?). This time I'm doing independent travel and don't need so many hotel services or assistance, and the price is good.

Thanks in advance.

Cuzco Cuzco to La Paz
Posted: Wed June 6, 2007 09:05 AM UTC
Hi guys,

Im trying to decide the best way to travel from Cuzco to La Paz, like so many. I havent found exactly these questions in the forum so I´ll just shoot!

I arrive to Cuzco on the 30th august and have a flight from La Paz the 7th September. I plan to spend 3 days in Cuzco (MP), 2 night around Lake Titicia and then 3 nights in La Paz.

How is the scenery from Cuzco to Puno? Im wondering if I should take a overnight bus or if I should spend valuable day-time in a 8 hours bus/train (that is the approx. travel time, right?).

From Puno I was wondering if it was possible to visit some of the islands and then get a boat to Copacabana (maybe one night stop-over in Isla del Sol). If that is possible has anyone got a link to a website of such a company?

Also it would be great if somebody had the name/website of a bus-company that goes from Puno to Copacabana - so I can make some comparison :)

Cuzco Accommodation in Cuzco in September.
Posted: Tue June 5, 2007 11:18 PM UTC
Hi guys,

Has anyone stayed in Terra Andina Hotel (they are always top when I search hotelsides)? If not does anybody recommend a good hotelin Cuzco for a price of approx. 100 USD a night?

Is Cusco crowded in early September or should I be able to arrive without booking in advance and find a good hotel with a nice location on the spot?

Thanks,

Cuzco Can I get a train to Aguas Calientes the same day as I arrive to Cusco?
Posted: Mon June 4, 2007 09:26 PM UTC
Hi guys,

I will arrive to Cuzco at 10.20 the 30th August. Is it possible to catch a train the same day to Aguas Calientes?

I will be spending three days in Cuzco Area. Is it better to spend a night in Aguas Calientes to be able to arrive very early in MP or is it fine to take a very early train from Cuzco to MP and back the same day? I have a little bit of a trouble deciding which is better.

Thanks :)

Best wishes,
Bjorn

Cuzco flight/bus to Quito?
Posted: Tue March 13, 2007 10:42 PM UTC
I'm looking for a flight from Cuzco to Quito... I've looked online and found one with Avianca connecting in Bogota, Colombio and it's $AU680 which is quite expensive. I'm sure there must be a direct flight (and cheaper)??

Is a bus cheaper?? Would be able to see more of the country that way.

Thanks

Cuzco Cuzco Peru to Rio Branco Brazil
Posted: Fri February 2, 2007 10:35 PM UTC
Anybody done or know what the road trip is like between these 2 cities. On a map Ive looked up a road connects the cities via places called Inapari and Assis Brasil.

I need to reach Rio Branco for a amazon tour and still weighing up the best way to do it and dont fancy spending days on boats and the only other option is flying but by the look of it I need to make several flights to get there which will no doubt be expensive and alot of stuffing around.

Cuzco Quito - Cuzco
Posted: Sun January 7, 2007 07:40 AM UTC
Hi

Am doing volunteer work in Ecuador June/July/August this year, and plan to go down to walk the Inca Trail afterwards. Are there any dates to avoid the Trail in August? Has anyone caught the bus from Quito-Cuzco? Any ideas of best airline to go from USA-Quito (then possibly Cuzco) and back to States?

Cuzco Best way to get from Huancayo to Cuzco
Posted: Tue December 12, 2006 12:43 PM UTC
I will be spending time in Huancayo during my trip to Peru, and wondered what the most direct and affordable routes were from Huancayo to Cuzco. I would like to see Machu Picchu while I am in Peru, but it seems inconvenient to have to travel back to Lima to get a bus to Cuzco, though that is the only form of transportation I have been able to find.
Thanks in advance!

Cuzco Accommodation in Cuzco
Posted: Fri September 1, 2006 01:27 AM UTC
Hi.

Any tips on accommodation in Cuzco?

We are going to be there in January for about 10 days (including 4 days on the Inca Trail of course).

I'm looking for a cheap and cheerful place with double bedrooms and the possibility of leaving luggage safely there during the hike.

Thanks!

Cuzco Booking a tour from Cuzco or from your own country?
Posted: Fri August 25, 2006 06:14 AM UTC
I am heading to Cuzco on Oct. 14th. I would really like to do the inca trail and see the Amazon forest. Should I book once there or it is better to book before I go? (I suspect the Inca trail will sell out soon) The one drawback when you book from your own country is you run the chance to overpay for services.

A second question: Is there any good value alternative to the Amazone forest? Any recommendation for companies that goes to Machu Picchu and ones to avoid? Thanks.

Cuzco Inca trail in October
Posted: Thu August 24, 2006 08:06 PM UTC
I am will be in Chile from mid October to mid November and would like to go to Peru for a week and do the 4-day Inca trail hike. I would like to do it in the 3rd week of October. But might need to postpone for November. Could anyone advise as to what kind of whether I should expect in October and in November? I certainly would like to minimise the chance of rain.

Also, how easy and safe travelling alone is in that area?

thanks
