Lima Peru Travel Posted: Wed June 24, 2009 11:45 PM UTC
My husband will be working in Lima Peru for 10 days and I will be going along but on vacation. Is it safe for an english speaking female knowing no spanish to be travelling alone? What type of guided day trips are available? I would prefer to be sightseeing with other vacationers rather than alone. Any suggestions? After reading about Lima on the internet it has made me a little apprehensive. Should I go to Lima and travel through the day on my own???? Would appreciate advice from people who have visited Lima and their suggestions. Thanks, Cheryl

any good hotels in lima? Posted: Mon June 22, 2009 04:43 PM UTC
My parents want to go to visit Peru but they are planning on staying for a month.
Anyone knows a good, safe and cheap hotel in Lima???
They are in their 50's and planning to stay 1 week in Lima and 2 to 3 weeks in Cusco.
Have anyone been in any of these hotels? http://www.cuscoperu.com/cusco/hotels-accommodations/041-accommodations-hotels-cusco.php and what about Cusco? do you know any of these http://wikitravel.org/en/Cuzco? Or maybe another one?
Thanks

Miraflores question Posted: Sun May 17, 2009 08:04 AM UTC
While in Lima I'd like to stay in whatever is considered the heart of Miraflores. Unfortunately I am getting mixed answers for where that is. Some say it is next to the Lacomar Mall. Some say I should be next to Parque Kennedy. Some say Calle De Las Pizzas.
Basically, I would like to walk out of my hotel and be in the main spot where the people are walking, shopping, dining etc. Almost every major city has a spot like that and I am assuming Lima's is in Miraflores. Is there a street or cross street that fits that description? Thanks!

Peru to Chile - big questions! Posted: Wed May 13, 2009 05:12 AM UTC
I am planning a visit to Easter Island which requires being in Santiago Chile (only place that flies to Easter Island). Since it may be a long time before I ever get to that wonderful part of the world again, I am trying to add Peru as well.
I thought I would fly to Lima (since airfares are very reasonable), make my way to the Cusco area, and on to Santiago.
My problem is getting from Lima (or Cusco) to Santiago.
Round trip airfares from Lima to Santiago are almost $600 for the time I need to go. The bus is very reasonable, and I like buses, however it looks like it may take as long as three days which would be problematic since time is an issue.
I am hoping someone can offer some alternatives, creative or otherwise, which would allow me to get to Santiago at a reasonable price without taking three days.
Thanks!

Machu Picchu and Peru Posted: Fri April 10, 2009 02:23 AM UTC
Hi All,
I am planning to visit Lima(Peru) and Machu Picchu in April/May time frame. Have few questions and need advise from experts.
1. Is it good time to go in April end May time frame weather wise, pricing etc
2. I would like to spend some time in Lima visiting (1 or 2 days), and in Cusco and go to Machu Picchu by train ( not by Inca trail hike). Any advice on trip plan, what to cover, lodging etc.
3. Any good agents that you can recommend either local in Peru or in US. I am on a budget constraint.
4. Any recommendation on doing this on my own (without travel agent), and advise
Appreciate your replies.
Thx

connection time to Cusco Posted: Mon April 6, 2009 11:40 PM UTC
I will fly from Miami to Lima on May 20. My flight will arrive around 4:10am. I'm thinking about booking a flight(TACA) to Cusco departing at 5:40am. Can anyone tell me the connection time is enough for passing through custom & check-in? TACA doesn't have a lot of daily flights from Lima to Cusco. If I miss this one, I can be in trouble.
Thanks!!

Flights between Lima and Cuzco Posted: Fri February 20, 2009 11:20 PM UTC
I had a question regarding the reliability/schedule of the flights between Lima and Cuzco. Lim-Cuz is not that big a problem but I have a connecting flight from Lima to SFO (USA) at 12:15pm. Could I trust Star Peru or Taca to get me to Lima airport in time to make my flight from Lima-SFO?
Thanks in advance,
Asheesh

Using the ATM card Posted: Mon February 2, 2009 08:06 AM UTC
Thanks for suggesting I use an ATM card when I visit Peru and Bolivia. I went to my local bank to activate it for overseas usage today. My card does not have the Visa logo but Maestro and Cirrus. Will I be able to use them in Lima and La Paz?
Also , I would like to try the local food. What is popularly sold in the markets and stalls? Is the staple food potatoes or rice? What snacks are usually consumed? How much should I allocate for food a day?
Thanks.

Changing money Posted: Thu January 22, 2009 03:10 PM UTC
I shall be flying into Lima in mid February and would like to know whether I will have problems changing UK pound into the local currency. I notice that US$ and Euro are mentioned always but not GBPounds. What is the exchange like? Also will I able to change them in Bolivia as I shall also be visiting La Paz.
What will the weather be like in February/March? Will there be any rain? We will be visiting the Inca ruins, Machu Picchu, Nazca Lines and La Paz, Lake Titicaca and the Oruro Carnival in Bolivia.I know it is summer but will it be cold in these places.
As this will be my first time in S. America I hope to pick up a sovenir or two.
Are items made of apaca wool cheapwer in Peru or Bolivia?
Thanks, fellow vters.

Hi, my friend and I are looking for an apartment near La Universidad del Pacifico that we can rent and live in for five months (end of July - middle december). We will be studying at the University as international visiting students for one semester to improve our spanish.
If anybody knows a good way to search for an apartment, or knows of a place we can stay, your advice will be much appreciated!

Lima city tour - 1 day Posted: Mon January 19, 2009 02:43 AM UTC
We are going to Peru in May, with 1 day available for sight-seeing in Lima. We are not going with any tour company in Peru. However, we would like to get a 1 day tour for Lima - group tour or private tour, anything is fine. Can somebody suggest a good tour company for that.
We are staying in a hotel in Miraflores and don't understand any Spanish. Let me know if you think that we should instead get in touch with the hotel for a tour.
Also, how much would be a reasonable price for such a tour?

Self plan Peru trip using Lima as entry and exit Posted: Sun January 18, 2009 09:10 PM UTC
Would like to take 2 adult daughters to Peru, especially Machu Picchu as the destination. Is it possible for non-Spanish speaking women to make arrangements with an agency in Peru to put together a trip which includes Machu Picchu, extra days un Cusco, a couple of days in Lima, Lake Titicaca and possibly the Nazca lines? Are the distances too great and would they require in country fligts? Any agency recommendations? We would book our own flight to Lima. This Mom will be covering most of the expense so I'm looking for budget, but safe rooms and tours.

Jorge Chavez Airport Posted: Fri January 16, 2009 04:51 PM UTC
Hi Everyone,
My plane lands in Lima at 5:25am and I've read that it takes about 1.5 hours to clear customs, baggage, etc... Does anyone know approximately how long it takes to check in and clear security for outgoing flights? More specifically, I would like to book a flight to Cusco as early as possible on the same day but I would also like to leave myself with a comfortable amount of time in between flights in case of any unexpected complications.
The realistic flight times to Cusco are: 09:25, 11:25, 12:10, 12:20, and 13:15.
Can anyone advise on a safe flight time?
Thanks!
