Boat from SR - HCMC Posted: Fri July 17, 2009 07:22 PM UTC
Hi there,
I am little bit confused about transport from Siem Riep to HCMC.
I was thinking in going by boat from SR to HCMC or instead from SR to PP by bus and from PP to HCMC by boat. Does anyone know how long does it take - 1 or 2 days? How can I get one ticket? Should I need to book it in advance in a travel agency or in the boat? Do you know what time do boats leave from PP / SR? can I slepp in the boat?
Thanks a lot,

Traveling South East Asia Posted: Tue July 14, 2009 03:00 PM UTC
Hi There
My girlfriend and i are planning a 2 month trip around south east asia in August and September, we fly into Bangkok and are planning on visiting Laos, Vietnam and Combodia before returning to Bangkok. Whats the best way to do this? is transportation and getting around easily accessible and safe?
My Girlfriend is worried about safety as we will be traveling by ourselves and would like to organise a guided tour but they seem a bit expensive. We have traveled before but never to Asia. are all the countries mentioned safe to travel by ourselves or would pepole recommend getting a guided tour?
Thanks

Angkor Wat & HCMC Posted: Mon June 15, 2009 06:38 AM UTC
Hi there!
I'm planning on a tour to Angkor Wat and HCMC departing from Singapore in the week of 25th July till 1st August 2009.
I'm wondering whether it's enough time for me to cover the major attractions since I'm going for both? I know it's long bus journey to travel from HCMC to Angkor Wat... and I'm not sure whether it's worth it for me to travel by bus or it would be better to just take a flight? Which route is the best : HCMC - Angkor Wat or vice versa?
Any suggestions on the itinerary as I'm pretty flexible and also because I'll be travelling alone. Would appreciate if you can provide some good backpackers accommodation too (looking at USD15 - 20 per nite). Also, I heard it will be very hot during this time to travel, but then again I have no choice to do so now as due to work committments.
Hope to get some feedback soon.
Thanks, guys!
Cheers!
Jen

NEED HELP: INITIAL QUESTIONS Posted: Wed May 27, 2009 05:50 PM UTC
We are a semi-retired couple from Boston with a flexible schedule. We are pondering our first (and probably only) trip to southeast Asia, and we need help. We know very little about this region. Is there a time of year to travel that is not TOO hot, crowded or rainy?
Should we consider planning a budget trip ourselves, rather than going on an organized tour? We are not hardy backpackers or beach folks, but want to see interesting and beautiful cultural/ historical/ natural sights. We will have three weeks or less- is it reasonable to combine visits to Thailand and/or Vietnam in that time?
We would appreciate ANY help. Although very specific details are probably unnecessary at this early stage, a rough idea of a possible itinerary might be useful. THANKS SO MUCH!

Siem Reap Street Names Posted: Tue May 19, 2009 11:01 PM UTC
I just wrote a General tip on Siem Reap street names around the Old Market. I think I have been able to identify some of them but I have not been able to figure out the name of the street that runs along the northwest side of the Old Market. Does anyone know it?

Possibly staying in Phenom Penh Posted: Thu May 14, 2009 06:30 PM UTC
Hi all,
Some buddies an I will be traveling SE Asia this Friday, but they're doing the planning. They are some "good ole boys" so I plan to have a backup just in case. Can anyone recommend a hotel within walking distance to a kick ass bar/the party section of the city? Everywhere I read indicates that the city at night can be a bit dodgy (don't know about that, Bucharest at night was pretty sketchy but incredibly cool, and I can't be more complimentary to the people). We'll probably be coming in by bus from Siem Reap so I'd be interested in a place that can arrange a transfer from the station to the hotel. Budget not a problem, prefer nicer accommodations though...I've been westernized :P
Thanks

We are a group of six, travelling by land
from siem reap to bangkok, planning to cross
the border at poipet - arayan prathet.
I read its best to take camry taxi to the
poipet border. Is it safe to do so or is it
more reliable to take the bus?
many thanks. would really appreciate some
advise from fellow travellers.

which hotel? Posted: Sat May 9, 2009 01:26 PM UTC
can't decide between a 20$ hotel with no pool and a 50$+ with pool.
Am considering the following options:
Golden Banana, Auberge Mont Royal,Casa Angkor, La Noria, Borann,Claremont
We are a 50-6- yr old couple and we are not interested in massages or luxurious places, but just homey and comfortable, clean and a/c

beginning stages, please bear with me... Posted: Fri May 1, 2009 07:09 AM UTC
not asking about weather or lodging...
1. Would kindly ask for people's logistical experience on the most direct route and mode of transport to A.W. to and from the closest Int. airport?
2. We will have an ASEAN airpass good to visit multiple countries in Asia and A.W. would be great to experience and squeeze in but we are very short on time. Lousy question, but what is the fastest time frame (airport-travel-A.W. compound-and back) could BE done? Would love to do it predawn, is that possible?
Thanks everyone!

Siem Reap to Vietnam Posted: Thu April 23, 2009 02:42 PM UTC
Hi,
I am looking to go from Siem Reap and cross into Vietnam. I really want to do the boarder crossing on boat but it appears that I need to get to Phnom Penh to do a boarder crossing. I have planned on one day for the travel but maybe this is not possible since it appears to take a day to go from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh.
Can someone please advise me on the possible routes and estimated time so I can try to finalize my plans
Thanks--Ed

Tourist Spots Accessible by Foot? Posted: Mon April 20, 2009 03:18 PM UTC
Hi there, me and my friends are planning to visit Cambodia sometime early November and would like to know if we could get around Phnom Penh ourselves or would a guide be necessary?
Was hoping to stay somewhere in town and do some exploring ourselves actually. Are most of the tourist spots accessible by foot?
Hope someone can help.
Thanks.

Vietnam and Cambodia?? Posted: Mon April 6, 2009 07:58 PM UTC
Trying to plan a trip to Vietnam, and can't decide whether to include Cambodia. We have to decide if we should fly directly to either Hanoi or HCMC and then spend 3 weeks travelling and then on to Siem Reap (and then we would have to backtrack to our departure point for return flight) or to fly into Bangkok ,and then go first to Cambodia and on to Vietnam, and then again we have to return to BKK to fly home.
It seems too complicated. Is it too rushed to do this in one trip?Is it practical to go to Angkor Wat first cos then it will all be an anticlimax after that ??
HELP!!!!!!!!
BTW we are not young backpackers, more like grey nomads.... if it is at all relevant.
All advice greatly appreciated :-)

Is early July still good to visit Angkor Wat? I've read that it's the rainy season would it spoil the experience any problem with floods?
Would early June be a better bet?
Appreciate any inputs/advise on the timing.
