| Cambodia | Bangkok to Kampot Posted: Wed May 14, 2008 10:48 PM UTC
I want to travel overland and/or sea from Bangkok to Kampot. Can someone advise on the best travel plan, please. Ideally I'd like to do it in a day, but realise I'll probably be doing well to get to Sihanoukville in a day. What is the coastal road like? Is that bridge finally open? What scams are at the border? Are there regular buses on both sides of the border? What is the boat option like? Any up-to-date advice gratefully received.

My husband and I are planning on going to Cambodia and Thailand next spring. We would love to have some suggestions for planning the trip: \
1) How can we find cheaper flights to these places? 2) Where should we visit? We were thinking about 3-5 days in Cambodia and about 5 days in Thailand. 3) Have you stayed at any places that are reasonably priced but wonderful? 4) What are things that we just can't miss? Thanks in advance! Ginny |

hi
i have done some reading about the wats at angkor and the surrpoundings. these are spread over a huge area. please share your experience as to how best to see these magnificient temples in one day i.e. suggesting routing so that essetial flavour of this wonder of the world is acchieved. any details like apportioning the time for the more significant parts of the temple would be appreciated. can the tour be achieved on foot or motorised transportation will be necessry and if so what is the best form of transportation available. has the infrastructure like public toilets etc improved? i was recently listening to an aussie doccumentary which highlighted that from one hotel in siem reap about twelve years ago there are now more than a hundred hotels. hopefully the infrastructure around the temples has also improved. regards musaphir |

| Phnom Penh | Visa question (including e-visa) Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 03:43 PM UTC
Hi all,
Me and my wife are visiting Cambodia between the 10-14 August this year. We'll be flying into Siem Reap on the 10th for 2 days, then flying onwards to Phnom Penh for a further 2 days. Simple plan! So I looked at the visa situation and found this e-visa thing. I thought I'd go for that. So I filled all the stuff out and paid my money and eagerly awaited the arrival of my e-visa's. And sure enough they did. But it says the visa expire on the 12 August - the same day we leave Siem for PP. (And exactly 3 months from the issue date!) I looked on the website and found out that as long as we arrive before the expiry date, then we can stay for a further 30 days. This would be fine, but the fact that we will arrive at PP airport on the day our visas expire makes me worried. I'm aware that we will have just flown a domestic flght, but what if someone wants to check our visa's? Basically, can someone settle my mind. I don't fancy having to pay another $50. Regards Jason |

| Cambodia | buses stopping at the airport Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 05:12 AM UTC
hi guys,
would anybody know if I can get the Phnom Penh to Shinukville bus to stop oposite the airport to pick me up next week instead of having to get a motorbike into phnom penh to catch the bus from the market that passes outside of the airport anyway. I noticed last year that a couple of people got off the bus at the airport when it was travelling to phnom penh. thanks in advance |

I am sorry if this is an inappropriate place to put this. Ko Maung Maung the owner of The mandalay Inn in Siem Reap is collecting donations to be sent to Myanmar, in three days he has collected over 8000 usd. if you are in Siem Reap one of these days and wish to donate, please find Ko Maung Maung at the mandalay Inn.
Once again, I hope this is not an inappropriate information to put in the travel forum. Gracias/Obrgiado/Arigato Gozaimasu/Merci Beaucoup/Tak So Mycket |

| Cambodia | Direct bus from Saigon to Siam Reap. Can anyone help please? Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 03:15 PM UTC
I've heard that there is now a bus going DIRECTLY from Saigon to Siam Reap - not via Phnom Penh - but I cannot find any details.
Has anyone used this? Do you know which days it leaves Saigon and at what time? Also does it cross into Cambodia at a point where you can get a Cambodian visa or do you need one in advance? I have less than 5 days from when I arrive in Saigon (Sunday 04.30am) to when I fly out from Phnom Penh (Thursday 4.30pm) but am wondering if this just might make it possible for me to spend a day in Saigon, get to Angkor Watt briefly, and then get down to Phnom Penh the day before my flight out? Is this just too ambitious or would it be possible? I leave in 3 weeks time and any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you. |

| Cambodia | Vietnam & Cambodia / 14 Days Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 02:38 AM UTC
I will be backpacking through Vietnam and Cambodia early June for about 2 weeks. The current plan is to start in Hanoi, go for a day trip at Halong Bay, then work my way down to Danang stopping in some cities (where do you recommend?). Then from Danang fly to Siem Riep, spend about 3 days going around the Angkor Wat then work my way down to Phon Peng and south of Cambodia then finish off in Saigon and also go to Mekong Delta. Any recommendations?

| Cambodia | Travel from Hanoi to Siem Reap Posted: Sun April 20, 2008 10:34 AM UTC
Hello,
We are travelling to Vietnam in a couple of weeks and want to fly from Hanoi to Siem Reap to spend a few days in Cambodia. I Was just wondering the best way to purchase flights as the flights on the internet for Vietnam Airlines seem very expensive 230 USD. Does anyone know if it is cheaper if you purchase flight from travel agent when in vietnam and if we would have trouble getting a flight on the day we want. We would be in Vietnam for 1 week before going to Cambodia. Is that enough notice to get flight as there will only be approx 2 days open in our itinery in which we will need to fly to cambodia in order to spend 3 nights. Thanks, Lauren |

| Angkor Wat | Getting around Angkor Wat Posted: Sat April 19, 2008 10:31 AM UTC
I am arriving at Siem Reap in the early afternoon and will then stay for two days therafter. Is two and a half days enough to do Angkor Wat justice? What would you recommend as the must see points of the area. Also how do I get to Angkor from Siem Reap, and what is the best way to get around the sites once there. Is it better to go with an organised tour or independently? If with tour guide can you recommend the best people to go with.

| Cambodia | Travelling the Mekong River Posted: Sun April 13, 2008 01:55 PM UTC
Intend to visit Southern Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. Would like to travel along the Mekong River for as much of the journey as possible (taking side trips off). Has anyone done this? Any advice? How easy? Any main operators in each country- or organised trips (tho prefer independent)?
Will begin travel in late Dec and have upto 3 months- any suggestions on where to start/direction to go in? (prefer cool/warm to hot!) Also into this equation- a beach to end at for a week- as uncommercialised as possible.... Ideas/suggestions gratefully received. Cheers! |

| Cambodia | Planning stages - Cambodia Posted: Sat April 12, 2008 09:49 AM UTC
Hey all!
We are thinking of going to Cambodia after Phuket and Bangkok. We are thinking of 1 week in Cambodia, PP and SR. Do you think that is too long or too short? I am thinking of going to Phonm Penh for 3-4 days and Siem Reap for 2-3 days. I'm thinking of going to PP and take the boat up to SR. Someone told me that Phonm Penh is boring and depressing (which I doubt it) Looking through the travel guides here, it looks like there's more things to do in PP than SR. We are going in late August/ early September, anyone been there during that period? How is the weather there at that time? Thanks! Merv |

| Angkor Wat | Can anyone recommend a place? Posted: Thu April 3, 2008 03:42 AM UTC
Hi can you guys recommend/ suggests a cheap place to stay (like 7-15$ max per room/night), a place that is clean, has good location (like we can still walk at night in some markets, restaurants etc.)...and a place near the tourist sights...I heard that guesthouses and hotels near old markets are the good location is it true? There's so many choices and good reviews that i have read in the forums but its still different when someone "really" stayed there..hehe.. because some hotel reviews are overrated.. I really hope to hear from you soon... your suggestions/recomendations will be very much appreciated...thanks:)
