Horse Riding around Quito Posted: Wed December 26, 2007 12:07 AM UTC
I recall someone saying they owned an equestrian centre around Quito?
I just can't seem to locate that member now, and am interested in finding them again. If it is you, do you mind getting in touch?
Or if someone else knows of a good horseriding ranch in Ecuador, can you let me know?
Many thanks,
Cat

OAT trip to Amazon and Galapagos-leaving Jan.1,2008 Posted: Sun November 4, 2007 04:36 AM UTC
Wondering if anyone has done this particular trip with OAT. It's 11 days; starting out in Quito, flying to Coca and spending 3 nights in the Amazon rain forest, then Hotel Reina Isabel in Quito, and 3 nights in the Galapagos on a small ship (85-95 feet) and small motor dinghies for wet landings during the day...or if you have any recommendations....

Internal flights from Quito Posted: Sun October 21, 2007 03:13 AM UTC
Is it true that as a foreigner you are charged approx. double the fare for internal flights??
Is it an unavoidable tax they charge you upon checking in? Or can you avoid the surcharge by buying tickets on-line??
Cheers,
Cat
PS we are arriving in Jan 2008, and I'm working on an itinerary and budget now.

Looking for a place to stay in Quito Posted: Wed August 8, 2007 05:53 PM UTC
I'm moving to Quito in 10 days, I'm going to live there for about four months, and I don't have a place to stay (!!). Anyone who knows about some average prized shared apartments, or at least some information about where I could look for one (web page, organization etc)? I appreciate any help!

Cotopaxi National Park Posted: Mon July 16, 2007 05:07 PM UTC
Hello,
Is it worth going to this park if hiking is not to be done? I'm traveling with my parents who are in their 60s (yes, young enough to hike but...) who prefer easy strolls than strenous exercise.
If it still is, would you recommend a full day or half a day to soak in the beauty of the place?
Thanks much!

furnishing my house in quito? Posted: Sun April 15, 2007 02:12 PM UTC
hi- after visiting quito, i liked it so much that i bought a house in the colonial area. now i need to furnish it. i will be there from june 4th-15th to do this so i can rent it out for tourists while i'm not there, so i don't have a alot of time.
does anybody have furniture store recommendations and general price ranges? i wouldn't mind buying artisan style furniture, since i'm told that it is less expensive than american style pieces.
thanks so much! judy

How Long in Quito? Rainforest / Amazon Posted: Fri April 6, 2007 02:21 PM UTC
We are going to be south america in September and will be visiting Quito which we understand is a good place to visit amazon perhaps rafting.
Can somebody tell me how long we would need to allow to be able to go on small trip into rainforest rafting. Also we are very tight on time so are we better pre-booking or will we be able to turn up and organise in a day?
Thanks

Cheap Travel and Language School Posted: Fri March 30, 2007 06:59 PM UTC
I am trying to travel from Lima to Quito. I am wondering what are some of the cheap ways to get there (are there any besides a bus? how much is a relatively inexpensive flight, for example?). Is it worth seeing some sights as I travel up to Quito? Also, there are tons of language schools in Quito. Are there any that have a particularly good reputation for college students? Are they really any different (I am hoping to do a home stay, if that makes any difference)?
Thanks,
Chris

VOLCANO LAND (Cotopaxi) Posted: Fri March 30, 2007 06:49 PM UTC
We're very interested in going to Volcano Land while we are in Quito, just not sure if we should just do a day trip. We are not hikers, per se, but would enjoy exploring on "easy" hiking trails, and our teenage grandchildren (13,14 and 15 years old) want to try the horseback riding, and possibly the mountain biking.
My questions:
1. Is it worth doing a 2 day, 1 night stay at the hacienda that's advertised on
"volcanoland.com"?
2. Approximately how much would a taxi cost to drive us to Volcanoland and
pick us back up at the end of our stay?
3. Are the taxis large enough to fit 4 very thin people in the back? Or
can you fit 2 of us in the front with the driver and 3 in the back?
and so am I.
Any suggestions or comments on Volcanoland accomodations, food and staff would be appreciated.

Old town or new Posted: Mon March 19, 2007 10:41 PM UTC
I will have some time to hang out in Quito. maybe a week or so. I have two guide books, and some warnings on this site, that suggest staying in the "old town" is not safe. I have another book, and some other tips from this site, that suggest that the "old town" is the way to go. I usually like staying in the older sections of town. More character, etc. Besides the usual, basic precautions like, don't walk alone at night, take taxis, etc., Is the old part of Quito fine for accommodation?
