Quito furnishing my house in quito?
Posted: Sun April 15, 2007 01:12 PM UTC
hi- after visiting quito, i liked it so much that i bought a house in the colonial area. now i need to furnish it. i will be there from june 4th-15th to do this so i can rent it out for tourists while i'm not there, so i don't have a alot of time.
does anybody have furniture store recommendations and general price ranges? i wouldn't mind buying artisan style furniture, since i'm told that it is less expensive than american style pieces.
thanks so much! judy

Quito How Long in Quito? Rainforest / Amazon

We are going to be south america in September and will be visiting Quito which we understand is a good place to visit amazon perhaps rafting.

Can somebody tell me how long we would need to allow to be able to go on small trip into rainforest rafting. Also we are very tight on time so are we better pre-booking or will we be able to turn up and organise in a day?

Thanks

Quito Cheap Travel and Language School
Posted: Fri March 30, 2007 05:59 PM UTC
I am trying to travel from Lima to Quito. I am wondering what are some of the cheap ways to get there (are there any besides a bus? how much is a relatively inexpensive flight, for example?). Is it worth seeing some sights as I travel up to Quito? Also, there are tons of language schools in Quito. Are there any that have a particularly good reputation for college students? Are they really any different (I am hoping to do a home stay, if that makes any difference)?

Thanks,
Chris

Quito VOLCANO LAND (Cotopaxi)
Posted: Fri March 30, 2007 05:49 PM UTC
We're very interested in going to Volcano Land while we are in Quito, just not sure if we should just do a day trip. We are not hikers, per se, but would enjoy exploring on "easy" hiking trails, and our teenage grandchildren (13,14 and 15 years old) want to try the horseback riding, and possibly the mountain biking.

My questions:
1. Is it worth doing a 2 day, 1 night stay at the hacienda that's advertised on
"volcanoland.com"?
2. Approximately how much would a taxi cost to drive us to Volcanoland and
pick us back up at the end of our stay?
3. Are the taxis large enough to fit 4 very thin people in the back? Or
can you fit 2 of us in the front with the driver and 3 in the back?
and so am I.

Any suggestions or comments on Volcanoland accomodations, food and staff would be appreciated.

Quito Old town or new
Posted: Mon March 19, 2007 09:41 PM UTC
I will have some time to hang out in Quito. maybe a week or so. I have two guide books, and some warnings on this site, that suggest staying in the "old town" is not safe. I have another book, and some other tips from this site, that suggest that the "old town" is the way to go. I usually like staying in the older sections of town. More character, etc. Besides the usual, basic precautions like, don't walk alone at night, take taxis, etc., Is the old part of Quito fine for accommodation?

Quito We Need a Place to Live
Posted: Sun March 11, 2007 01:45 AM UTC
My husband and I are moving to Quito for a year beginning April 1st.
We need a furnished apartment in the city - quiet, safe, clean, modern.
We don't want to spend more than $400 a month if possible.
Do you know of any place? We have searched all the websites we can find.
Please help! - otherwise we will be stuck paying per day/per person at a hostel.

Quito moving to quito
Posted: Sat March 10, 2007 07:37 PM UTC
We're moving to Quito this coming August and my concerns are which nice and safe neighboorhoods would be ideal(more specifically between the Mariscal Park area and our children's school in the area of'Calle Japón Y Naciones Unidas'). How much the rental fees for house vs apartment nowadays?
Thanks so much in advance.

Quito Climbing Cotopaxi
Posted: Fri December 1, 2006 03:45 AM UTC
Any recommendations on an outfit to guide me to the top of Cotopaxi. I tried years ago with a fly by night outfit from Banos and didn't make it. I spent a majority of my time adjusting the taxi drivers carb so that we could make it to base camp. I don't mind paying good money for a professional outfit. thanks. dentisto

Quito Old Town safety
Posted: Thu August 31, 2006 04:42 PM UTC
I will be in Quito next week and was planning to stay in Old Town, maybe at the Hostal San Blas or Hotel Huasi Continental in Old Town. Is this area safe? Is it OK to return to your hotel after dark? Would you recommend some other area or hotel for a short term budget traveller?

Thanks

Quito Quito to Bogota
Posted: Sat August 5, 2006 07:33 AM UTC
Basically, I need to get to Bogota, Colombia and back to Quito in one weekend, so the main issues are time, security and cost. What is the best way to travel from Quito to Bogota? I know the plane will be the most expensive, but I'm worried about taking a bus across Colombia because of armed groups etc. So how dangerous would it be? Also how long would it take? Is there a train?

Any help is greatly appreciated
Thankyou
