Rangoon tourism again?
Posted: Tue June 24, 2008 01:11 PM UTC
Intend to travel to Yangon coming august, spending one-and-a-half week in Myanmar. Are the Myanmar people ready to welcome tourists again, after the ordeal of the cyclone? Or is it too early to travel there? I'd love to hear from local folks and farangs.

Rangoon Importing goods from Burma into USA
Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 04:06 AM UTC
I am planning a trip to Burma later this year (hopefully the recent situation will improve over the next months). I plan to purchase some souvenirs and gifts in Burma to take back to the US with me but I am hearing that no Burmese-made goods are allowed into the US by CBP. Does anyone have any recent experience they can relay to me or tips on bringing Burmese goods into the States. I would certainly appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Yangon Division Automatic Teller Availability
Posted: Thu July 12, 2007 02:42 PM UTC
My guidebook is from 2002 and is probably wrong about most things. I´m needing to know if and where I can find a automatic teller machine in Yangon or at the airport where I can draw money on my Visa Debit card. Do they still use the system of exchanging for FEC´s? What´s the best for me? I could just pay with cash US dollars? Dres

Yangon Division Kyat versus $US dollars
Posted: Sun July 8, 2007 07:56 PM UTC
A question regarding use of money in Yangon. As a visitor, when must $USs be used when is it possible to use local currency for eg. internal air flights, hotels (mid ranged), taxis, etc? And finally, does it make any difference in terms of actual out-of-pocket expenses?

Yangon Division Golfing around Yangon
Posted: Sat July 7, 2007 12:46 AM UTC
I noticed that there are at least a dozen good golf courses around Yangon. Does any one know of any 'golf societies' (like in Thailand), where expats and others who love to golf can link-up for matches (often discounted), transportation, socializing etc?

Thanks Vic

Yangon Division Traveling Solo in Myanmar Dec. 2006
Posted: Tue November 7, 2006 10:22 PM UTC
I am a thirty-something female and will be in Myanmar from December 13 until December 24. I have a few family members in Myanmar, but I’ll be traveling there solo and will be on my own most of the time. I’ve traveled all over the world, but I’ve never traveled by myself. I must say, I’m excited yet nervous. If anyone is going to be in Yangon around the same time, I’d love to meet up with you and explore Yangon a bit (including restaurants, nightlife, pagodas, etc.). I speak a little Burmese and have been there before; so that should be good.

A little bit about me: I’m passionate about fitness (I stay active and love to go skiing, hiking and whitewater rafting). I’m passionate about food (I love eating out, especially at intimate BYOB’s and the new “it” restaurants. I also love to cook, especially Asian fusion). I am even passionate about my job (I’m an attorney in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania).

Just so that it’s clear: I’m not looking to hook up with anyone; I do have a serious boyfriend. I just want to meet new friends to hang out with while in Myanmar. I’d love to meet other professionals, male or female, around my age (25-40 years) - and I'd especially love to meet American expats living in Yangon.

I hope to hear from you soon! :)

Rangoon Help with locating a road in Yangon
Posted: Thu February 9, 2006 11:17 PM UTC
I'm interested in travelling to Burma, in particular Yangon within the next 2 years. Some members of my family lived in Yangon approx mid 1930's. My mother's birth was registered with the address being 100 Forest Road and I would like to know if this address still exists and if it was possible to obtain a photograph of it? I've seen it mentioned on a website - "Strand road between Ahlon road and Forest road in Ahlon Township". I've looked on as many current maps as I can find but no luck, any help would be appreciated.
