Looking for: Furnished Apartment or Real Estate Agent Posted: Fri May 4, 2007 08:23 PM UTC
We are currently in Bogota and intend on staying for atleast six months and presently looking for an apartment to rent. Failing that, the name and number of any real estate companies that rent furnished apartments would be most helpful.

Inexpensive Prescription Drugs Bogota Posted: Mon April 23, 2007 03:14 AM UTC
Looking for an online site or discount farmacies that have good prices on prescription drugs. Can't seem to find anything online. Prices here seem to be about the same as the States and triple those in Argentina.
Any suggestions on where to look?
Thanks!

What is a better/more fun area to stay? Zona Rosa or Park 93? Posted: Sat February 10, 2007 04:30 PM UTC
Hi VT,
I am contemplating 2 hotels in Bogota: 1 in calle 82 in Zona Rosa, and the other in Calle 93 by Parque 93. I want to live close to nice, safe night clubs and restaurants and somewhere that I can safely take walks around at night. Which area would you say is better, or are they both about the same? Can you walk between these 2 districts at night, or should one take a taxi?
Thanks very much

Looking for Information about where to stay, safety concerns, and trendy areas Posted: Thu February 1, 2007 03:46 AM UTC
I am sixteen and am traveling with my father to Bogota and am a little unsure of where to stay. We are looking for a nice hotel in a vibrant, yet secure, area. I have read about some of the malls recieving bomb threats and am a little concerned but reading other peoples comments i suppose a little common sense should work just fine. Is this a fair assumption? I would also like to know if their are any cool daytrips that would be interesting.
Any reply would be well appreciated
thanks

Lone female traveller seeking other travellers - and info! Posted: Mon January 29, 2007 04:27 PM UTC
hi, I will be travelling to Bogota at the end of March for 4-7 days and I am firstly seeking other female travellers who would like to join me. I usually travel accompanied and therefore i'm looking for others planning to travel around the same time. I am going there on the way to meeting friends in Brazil.
It seems like a very beautiful country, my business there (nothing dodgy I add!) will only be for one day, and I'm looking for information about the best way to spend the rest of the time (4-7 days depending on how long I decide). What are the best websites to look at and the best sites to visit? I look forward to hearing back from you!

taking a taxi from the airport to downtown Posted: Thu January 25, 2007 03:24 PM UTC
Hi all.
I'm Spanish - and therefore, Spanish-fluent and I'm planning a visit to Colombia this year.
I would be traveling alone. But I'm a bit afraid about security. Although I'll be taking flights between cities (too much scared to take a bus), I'll have at least to take a taxi from the airport to the city center.
Would it be safe to take a taxi from the Bogotá airport to downtown? How long is this trip? Can I trust taxi drivers? Any risk of being robbed, ripped off or even kidnapped during this trip?
I would like to ask the same question again for other cities in Colombia that I plan to visit: Medellín, Manizales, Pereira, Cali.
Thank you in advance for your advices.
Regards.

Bogota or Costa Rica in March??? Posted: Sun January 14, 2007 08:20 PM UTC
We are planning a trip in March to either Bogota or Costa Rica for 5 days....we haven't made up our minds just yet. We would like to get some info on both to make an informed decision. Could anyone help with some questions? Here they are:
Bogota
1. If my spanish isn't all that great(meaning I butcher the language, but still able to get my idea across) would it be safe?
2. We are looking for a safe, nice, reasonable hotel. Safe meaning able to walk in the eve/night time. Nice meaning not fancy, but not a dive. Reasonable meaning around $60-$80 USD/night per room.
3. What is the nightlife like?
4. My friend the gambler would like to know if there are any casinos.
5. Are the people there friendly...in other words my friends would like to know are the girls approachable...lol
6. What is the weather like in March?
7. Is the national park there nice and should I include it on my list?
Costa Rica
1. I would love to see an active volcano erupt and see the lava flow at nighttime.
2. What is the nightlife like? What is the best bar to go to?
3. My friend the gambler would like to know where are the best casinos.
4. What is the weather like in March?
Thank you for reading and taking the time. I know these were alot of questions, but I'm trying to accomodate all that are going some we each have our interests fulfilled.
Much appreciated

Two days in Botoga.... Posted: Sun January 14, 2007 12:20 PM UTC
Hi,
Im thinking about flying over from Quito in late september for two days in Botoga before flying to Miami. Ive of course read alot about the dangers in Colombia but Im sure that using common sense should be sufficient....right? :) Im not at all worried about the FARC but Im a little bit worried about street safety. I of course wouldnt walk around during dark but I was wondering how the situation is during daytime?
I was also hoping if somebody could recommend what I must do and see in Bogota for this short period of time and if someone could recommend a good and safe hotel to stay in? Is it possible to get a professional local guide to walk with you and point out the major sights?
Thanks in advance.
Freezing regards from Iceland

Hello,
I was looking into moving to the Un minuto de dios district to help with teaching etc. Does anyone know what this area is like (i.e. nightlife, parks, rest.)? How is the university (UNI Minuto)? Furthermore, are there any major safety concerns with this or the surrounding areas? I appreciate your time.

cost of living and safety questions Posted: Wed April 19, 2006 06:28 PM UTC
Hi,
I am currently living in Buenos Aires, Argentina but I was born and raised in St. Louis, Mo. I have been living here for 3 months and before that I lived in Costa Rica for 2 months. I really love Argentina but it is becoming winter here and it is starting to get very cold. For this reason I am considering making a move to a warmer South American country where I can continue my Spanish studies. I am considering Colombia, Panama, Mexico, and Guatemala. All of these places seem to have pluses and minuses associated with them. The problem for me is that it is very difficult to find info about the safety and cost of living in Columbia. I was hoping that someone could help me with this. If you could advise me please......
1. How much would it cost to rent an apartment (probably short term rental) per month in USD in a decent neighborhood (I am single and would be interested in a studio or 1 bedroom. ) Are there any expat rental issues specific to Columbia...ie "guarantias", length of lease..etc ..??
2. How much would I spend on a decent meal in a restaurant......groceries?
3. Is the public transportation adequate or would I need a car?
4. How safe is it to live in Bogota? Many people are saying that it is safer now than before but what has caused this change? Is it safe to walk the streets at night alone?
5. If you could compare Bogota to a US city what would be the closest comparison that you could make?
Thanks for answers to any of these questions that you could provide. I am sorry to ask so many but there seems to be so much contradictory info about Colombia out there that I have no idea what to expect.

Travelling to Bogota for six weeks - looking for newbie advice Posted: Wed March 29, 2006 03:31 PM UTC
I'm going to be going down to Bogota at the end of May for six weeks, and I'm hoping someone here can help me out with advice. Most of the stuff I've read about Bogota and Colombia as a whole has said that the security and safety issues have been overblown by the media, and that for the most part Bogota and Colombia are about as safe as any big city. True?
Are there any areas in Bogota or Colombia that should be avoided? And more importantly, what stuff are must-sees?
