Bogotá Solo traveler in Bogota
Posted: Thu October 8, 2009 08:29 AM UTC
Hello, I'm a 21-year-old female visiting Bogota by myself for about a month in March 2010 for some sightseeing and research. I was wondering where the safest, yet most affordable areas in town are for my budget (food and travel: USD $50/day)and for a single traveler. Are there any parts of the city I should definitely avoid? Thank you for your help!

Recommended things to do in Bogota? I am 33 like a lively scene but something more on safe side.

Interested in good food so a recommendation on that in the same area would be appreciated.

Bogotá Vintage Dakota aircraft at Villavicencio airport and Bogota
Posted: Wed March 11, 2009 09:15 AM UTC
I am a real vintage airplane fan,and I know Villavicencio has many opprtunities to see the old vintage flying and derelict DC-3 aircraft still operating into the jungle. Woudl anyone know whom I need to write to to get a tour of the airport and photograph the airplanes? And is there a hotel close by? In Bogota , I understand there are old preserved airplanes dotted around the city and at the airport - can I get permission to photograph them at the air base? many thanks Mike

Bogotá in Colombia August for only 5 days- a see-if-I like -it tester....
Posted: Wed March 11, 2009 09:12 AM UTC
Visiting Colombia August for 5 days( Delta has a great deal right now),and flying right down to Villavicencio the next morning. Any ideas and a cheap but clean hotel close to airport( I arrive at 11pm- and flight next day is 0900hrs)- and a good one in Bogota for two nights at weekend - I am actually not looking for a hotel in a touristy area... I love travelling and hanging with the locals in a colmado or something, and feeling the real vibe of the city.. so if someone can direct me to a nice area , but not top of the line hotel but real instead, that would be great. Many thanks

Bogotá Ins and outs of the nightlife
Posted: Tue November 18, 2008 02:37 PM UTC
Can someone please shed some light into all the happenings of the city nightlife.

I will be in the city on the latter part of Dec and for a stay of 21 days touring the country which also includes Panama City via Medellin. but the first week of my duration is in Bogotá and surrounding small towns or city ( day trips mainly). I was wondering if someone can fill me in on all the happenings of the city especially the nights as I enjoy a good dance and few beers in all my holiday. Places to go, local restaurent, nightclubs etc.....

Mucho Gracias ( already practicing my spanglish)

Bogotá A very short visit to Bogota - where to go, what to do?
Posted: Sat October 4, 2008 06:29 PM UTC
I will be in Bogota for a business meeting next week, so I have available Thursday (since I arrive 5am) and Saturday. I know, it is not enough time to see any new city/country, but that's all I have :-)

So, any advices on the "must see" things?

I am "outdoorish" type in general, are there some trips I should take out of the city? So far the candidate is Zipaquirá/Guatavita. Any advice on tour operators?

PS how long does it usually take to go through the immigration/customs in the Bogota airport?

Thank you all in advance!

Bogotá Santa Fe Barrio
Posted: Fri August 22, 2008 10:26 PM UTC
We are visiting Bogota in September and have two choices:

Go on a charter package and stay at the
Hotel Santa Monica in Barrio Santa Fe (Carrera 3a 24-11)

or

Buy our own tickets and find another hotel.

The Charter package is cheaper, but I can't find anything on the neighborhood or the hotel? Is it in a safe place?

Bogotá danger in bogota
Posted: Sun July 20, 2008 08:10 PM UTC
Hi, I will go with my husband and my kids to Bogota. I just start to worry a bit much about the fact that so many tourists are being kidnapped on a regular base in the country. Is the city itself safe or is the farc also very present in the city? Is it very dangerous to be there with 2 small kids?

Bogotá Tight Connection
Posted: Tue June 10, 2008 09:52 PM UTC
Hello - I thought I would pose this question just in case someone has had experience in this issue. I am looking at flight from Washington, DC to Lima, Peru and found flights on the return on Avianca Aerovias via Bogota. The connection on the flights is only 35 min. Normally, I wouldn't choose such a tight connection, but it seems like a regular part of the schedule. Has anyone has such a tight connection in Bogota and/or aboard Avianca Aerovias? Although I may be able to get myself onboard, I doubt my luggage would make the connection. Thank you for any input!

I have a small business in the states that will allow me to live in Bogota for 2 or 3 months at a time befor i need to return to the states for a couple weeks. I would like to do this in the next 8 months so i am trying to plan for as much as i can. I do not need to live like a king but i also do not want to live in the slums.. I am planing on haveing a 2500 dollar a month(US) as my monthly buddget. am I being crazy thinking this will be enough? how much do i really need for a monthly budget(rent, utilitys, cell phone, food, entertainment, and what ever else i might need)? please give me advise on this matter. I plan on letting my girlfriend do the renting as i understand it can be difficult for a gringo to rent in Bogota. if any onr has any ideas on a good place to rent it would be great ( in the north or close to would be great....again thanks for the advise ....Sin Gringo in love with a Rolla....
