I am going to be in Santiago for 3 days (20-21st May and 19th June 2009), i was wondering with the transport card being 1100 pesos, does this card automatically include metro trips or you have to add these onto the card

Santiago Things to do in (Valpraiso/Santiago Chile
Posted: Wed December 24, 2008 05:29 AM UTC
My wife and I are arriving in Valparaiso on Feb 5, 2009, we will be completing a 16 day cruise that originated in Buenos Aires. Our flight leaves from Santiago the same day that our ship arrives (11:00 pm). We are not even sure what type of transportation is available from the cruise terminal to the airport. If anyone can offer suggestions as to whether we should find transportation when we arrive at the port or whether we might be able to hook up with someone who could take us to sites in the area, or should we just go directly to Santiago and tour that area. We also need information regarding weather conditions and what type of clothing we should wear for that time of the year.
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated, since we have now clue as what to see and do for the 12 hrs that we have to spend before our flight.

Santiago Wine Tours around Santiago
Posted: Wed December 3, 2008 08:10 PM UTC
I'm in Santiago around New Years and am looking to join a day tour to a winery/wineries outside the city, but am really stuggling to find anything affordable - I really don't want to pay 150USD for a tour as I'll be by myself, but would prefer to join an organised tour.

And I'm having NO LUCK finding anything suitable on the internet! I'm sure a tour must exist - in Beijing for example I joined a one day tour to the Great Wall for 50USD, does anyone know of anything similar in Chile?

Santiago Eclipse on Easter Island July 2010
Posted: Tue December 2, 2008 11:44 AM UTC
My husband and I want to go to Easter Island July 2010 for the solar eclipse. We like small groups, B&B's rather than hotels, and intelligent, well informed travel partners. Just like all of you!

We could book with Ken Lee - Mountain Adventures. Our favorite tour guide, Galapagos Travel, is already booked! Has anyone traveled with Ken Lee, or heard positive (or negative) opinions on his tours?

Also-if anyone has any suggestions on other groups, I'd really appreciate the suggestions.

Santiago Santiago - Where to stay and restuarant for Dec 31.
Posted: Sun November 30, 2008 06:59 PM UTC
I have a reservation in the Radisson Plaza for a two night stay beginning Dec 30. I was considering the Hotel Orly in Providencia. We like to walk a lot and also eat in the area where we stay for dinner. Which would be a better place to stay and what would be some nice places for dinner on Dec. 31.

Santiago Travel to Valparaiso
Posted: Wed November 26, 2008 11:57 PM UTC
Question One:
Is there bus or train from the airport to Santiago? I need to get to the Sheraton Hotels. How much is a taxi?

I will be staying at the Sheraton Hotel in Santiago. I need bus transportation to Valparaiso, then to the docks to connect with a cruise ship.
It looks like a bus leaves every 15 minutes and will stop in Valparaiso. How far is the Bus Stop from the port? About how much for a taxi?

Santiago Need help with name of jewelry store.
Posted: Sun November 23, 2008 10:57 PM UTC
When my wife and I were in Santiago three years ago, she bought necklace and earrings at a little jewelry store located near a staircase in Drugstore Galleria in Providencia. She has lost one of the earrings. We hope to be able to buy another pair, but can't remember the name of the store. I *did* remember the name for a time (I looked at their web site), but have forgotten it.

Does anyone know the name of this little jewelry store?

Thanks for any help!

Santiago Travelling from Santiago to Valparaiso
Posted: Sun November 23, 2008 09:57 PM UTC
My wife and I are arriving on an Air Canada flight from Toronto to Santiago on April 11, 2009. We start a cruise the next day, leaving from Valparaiso and going to Vancouver, British Columbia. Is anyone else on the same itinerary, and what options are you considering to get from the airport in Santiago to Valparaiso? We would be agreeable to find other cruise passengers to share the cost of the trip.

Santiago What to wear at night when going out?
Posted: Thu November 20, 2008 08:34 PM UTC
Hello,

Some friends and I are headed to Santiago over the US Thanksgiving holiday. We'll be staying in the Bella Vista area of Santiago. I've seen the forecast that shows highs in the mid 80's and sunny and dry with lows in the low 50's.

That's a pretty big temperature drop. What do you recommend to wear in the evenings to dinner and being out and about? Is it really that cold in the summer?

Thanks

Santiago Getting from Santiago to Mendoza... with sights along the way
Posted: Sat November 15, 2008 10:41 PM UTC
I know there's a 6-hour bus that goes from Santiago to Mendoza and stops at a couple of sights, like the Puente del Inca. But I was wondering if there are any full-day tours that start in Santiago and end in Mendoza and stop elsewhere along the way, like Tupungato, Aconcagua, Uspallata and Villavicencio? Any advice? Or does one have to take the bus to Mendoza and then arrange a separate tour to go back and see these things?

Santiago Public transportation from the center to Concha y Toro
Posted: Tue October 14, 2008 06:54 PM UTC
I would like to use the metro and bus systems to go from Baquadeno in the city to Concha y Toro. I read in an old publication that you could take the L5 Metro to the Bellavista de las Florida stop, and catch one of several metrobuses from there. Is this correct? Would you recommend a different way. Finally, how much would a taxi cost?

Thank you.

Hi there!

I'd like to go up to La Colina Thermal Springs for the day from Santiago. Is there a bus service anyone can recommend? I'd rather not drive. And if there is a bus service, how often and how much?

Thanks!

Santiago Brief layover in Santiago 10-11 Oct '08
Posted: Sun September 14, 2008 06:35 AM UTC
Dear VT friends

I will be flying out of Puerto Montt (Chile) on 10 Oct ’08 by LAN270 and land at the Merino Benitez Terminal at 19:15 hrs. I will be flying to London by American Airlines at 21:30 hrs the following day. I have a few questions:
(a) Transportation to the City
(b) Accommodation in Santiago (my budget is about USD50 max)
(c) What are the “must visit” sights during my brief layover in Santiago? – I assume that I have about maximum 10-12 hours before leaving for the airport?
