Valparaíso Travel Forum

I am seeking long-term accommodation (approximately 2-3 months)in the city of Valparaiso. Most places I find on the internet are expensive for such a long stay. I see that many hostels offer fairly inexpensive pricing, but I do not feel comfortable sharing a room with other(s) that I do not know. Can anyone offer alternative recommendations as to less expensive places to stay? It does not have to be anything fancy or such, just safe and quiet with a bed and bath. Thank you so very much for any help that can be given.

Soy estudiante de Los Estados Unidos y quiero que estudiar en chile. Lei mucho sobre Chile y estoy seguro que el paiz es un lugar muy interesante, bella, y divertida. Tengo ganas de estudiar en el extranjero pero querria terminar colegio en este universidad. Necesito informacion sobre los requistos (notas) de la universidad y tambien si es possible a asitir. No estoy seguro pueda vivir con un familia antrifiona pero quiero a. Se que espanol Chilean es muy diferente y dificil pero querria poder hablar la lengua. Todo la ayuda es apreciada.

I am a student in the united sates and would like to study in chile. I have read a lot about Chile and am certain that the country is a very interesting, beautiful and fun place. I have a strong urge to study abroad but would like to finish college in this university. I need information about the university requirements (grades) and also if it is possible for me to attend. I'm not sure if would be able to stay with a host family but want to. I know chilean spanish is very different and hard but i would like to be able to speak the language. All the help is appreciated.

La otra pregunta es que la reacción de chilenos a los estadunidenses. Yo sé que muchas personas en otros países no les gustan los estadunidenses o el gobierno. I'm interested in studying in the Valparaíso University for a summer, possibly summer 2009. I would like to know any information about the university, the city, or safe areas within. If you could help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, I have heard that the Chilean spanish is different from the other countries. What is the reaction of Chileans to United States citizens. Can you tell me more about this?

My husband and I are disembarking a cruise ship at Valparaiso on Sunday 30th March and would like take a sight seeing tour of Valparaiso and possibly Santiago and then be taken to the Airport to catch a flight leaving for London at 18.45 pm. The boat docks early in the morning. We would be happy to go alone or be joined by other persons.

The two of us would like to be picked up at the airport March 19 at 8:00 a.m, tour Vina and Valpo, then board our ship at 3:00 p.m. or 15:00. Would like to share cost with others. Any recommendations as to a tour company or English speaking guide? Anyone interested in sharing the tour?

Can anyone give me a an approximate taxi fare cost from Valparaiso to Santiago? Our hotel wants to charge us $150 one way....I'm thinking this may be high and a taxi cheaper?

After negotiating the buses to Valparaiso drop off point (pero duMontt?) what is the best way to the Cruise Terminal
(i) Is it walking distance with lugage
(ii) Or is it better to take Taxi
(iii) How far in Kilometers ?

Planning cruise in Nov.2008 from Valparaiso around the horn ending Buenos Aires. What is weather around that time. Also how far is it from Santiago Airport to cruise terminal in Valparaiso? We will be getting transfers supplied by the ship.

I'm looking for the best way to transfer between the Santiago airport and the cruiseport in Valparaiso. Cruiseship transfer service is not an option. I'm on a budget, so a taxi the whole way is not an option, either. Anyone with recent experience out there? From the postings, it seems that the option most often mentioned is to take a bus to Pajaritos, then transfer to another bus to Valparaiso, then take a cab to the cruiseport. Has anyone done this? What did it cost you (including the cab). How long did it take you? (I will be able to carry all my bags). Thanks in advance!

I am arriving from Canada at the Santiago Internatioanl Airport...I have spent hours trying to get simple information concerning the various options I have for getting from the airport to the Valpariso Docks to board a cruise ship.
Is there a shuttle? If I take a taxi...how much will it cost? I arrive at 12:30pm Nov. 21st. and the boarding ends at 4:00pm so I have enough time if I know what to do. Can someone e-mail me at timdevlin@sympatico.ca if you can answer the questions. Thanks.

I will be staying in Vina del Mar in October and have read the posts saying there's a metro along the coast from Valparaiso - does this run between there and Vina del mar? If so how long is the journey?

I am going to take a cruise leaving out of Valparaiso in November and I will be flying into Santiago. Question is how do I find transportation from the airport to Valparaiso ? Thanks for the help

I see that costs for a bus ride from Santiago to Valparaiso range fron $4 to $6 US PP. which buses are best equiped to handle our cruise ship baggage? Do any of the buses go directly to the cruise port?

My wife and I arr. Valpraiso aboard HAL 2/20 and wish to make transfer to Hotel downtown Santiago for night of 20th before flying out eve of the 21st. Shopped HAL transfer chg @ $70 ea. We're 70+ & not exceptionally athletic. Are there cheaper convenient options?

What is the distance and price from Santiago airport to downtown and from downtown to Valparaiso

I am going to be visiting Valparaiso for a few weeks in late June/early July, and am looking to see if there are any lesbian nightclubs that are worth visiting? I will be visiting my professor and her family, and it will be kind of fun to get out of the house a couple of nights!

I´ve seen many posts about bus service from The University in Santiago to Valparaiso, but can I expect to find Bus Service directly from the Santiago Airport when I land? It seems to be in the correct direction...

I'm looking for the perfect situation, perfect meaning I need a lot of luck!

Here are the facts:
1)I've been an English teacher here in Germany for 2.5 years (I'm American)
2)My girlfriend studies Art History, English and German (she's German)
3)We both speak a little Spanish, we've studied some and could get caught up quickly but need some practice
4)She needs an internship, preferably with a museum, that lasts a month or so
5)I would like to teach English during that time
6)We'd like to have Spanish classes in the morning and accomodation taken care of, perhaps with the school I would teach at

Ideally, we would both take Spanish in the morning, I would stay at the school and teach in the afternoons, she would go to work in a museum, giving tours in English and German or?? and on the weekends we could do trips to the surrounding area.

Is this possible, do you have ideas?

Any thoughts on staying at a b&b here during the summer. What is there to do and what might I expect.Will be coming into Valpariso from an Antarctic cruise in January on my way to Santiago. Is this a good choice or go directly to santiago and the lakes in the south. I notice there are no reviews on the site. Thank you.

We shall be disembarking a ship on February 5, 2006 and would like the name and e-mail address of taxi, limousine, or small bus company that would take us there.
I checked enaturechile and it does not appear they offer this service. I also checked out another company that was mentioned in a reply to a similar question last November/December and they do not provide this either.
We are from Canada.

We will visit Santiago in December and are planning a day trip to Valparaiso. We do want to explore this city by ourselves, doing a little bit of walking, visiting (some of) the elevators, some shopping and having a coffee/lunch somewhere.

Who can suggest a unguided tour; any website ??
I suppose shops and markets will be closed on Sundays ??
What about the safety in Valparaiso during dautime ??
Who knows a bus schedule for Santiago - Valparaiso ??

Anyone travelling alone, and wanting to get from the Santiago airport to Valparaiso or Viña del Mar on Friday afternoon, the 15th? If so, let me know. Hi, I live near Valparaiso and am putting together some minibus tours for cruise liner passengers docking at the harbour and wishing to see local sites and/or tours to Santiago. This is in demand from passengers who wish to have their own minicoach which can stop off at places like vineyards, coastal sites, Pablo Narudas house, Andes mountains, etc, etc. If anyone is interested please email me at rollsrazor@hotmail.com
