Can I survive in vina del mar for a few days without knowing any spanish?

I am planning to stay a couple of days in Valparaiso.
Could anyone tell me which hostal is better or worse:
hostal portobello vs hostal morgan?

Hostal Morgan seems to be more expensive. Is it worth it?

I am on vacation in Concon and would like to know if there is anyone else who speaks English in this area? I will be here for the next four weeks. I find it a very beautiful place. I am staying in an apartment here and would like to talk and meet others in the area.

we are staying 5 days in Vina del Mar area in the minddle of February. I like to know: 1) if someone knows ofan apart hotel with a pool in Vina del Mar on the beach? 2) does anyone know the Playa Paraiso in Concon and how easy is it to get to Vina del Mar from Concon? 3) would renting a condo in Renaca (if I can find one) be a better option? We will be getting off a cruise ship at the Port in early Dec 07 will we be able to get a taxi cab, or bus from the Port to Vina and how much should we expect to pay. There will be two of us with a suitcase each. We only speak English and will be staying in Vina one night and leaving Santiago the following evening homebound for New Zealand. Thanks for any suggestions.

We are living in Vina del mar and would like to know about libraries or used book stores in town.

Our family will be travelling to Vina Del Mar late december 2006 prior to boarding a cruise. We had hoped to stay at the Sheraton Miramar - but it is fully booked. Can anyone suggest an alternative of similar quality? Thanks for your help.

We will be on a cruise that begins in Valparaiso on January 11, 2007. We fly in to Santiago and were wondering if it is better to stay in Santiago one night and tour the city some, then take a transfer tour to Valparaiso the next day to board the ship or would it be better to just get of the plane, tour Santiago and then transfer to Valparaiso and spend the night and get on the ship the next day? We will have had a 9 hour flight that lands in Santiago about 9:00 am. The ship leaves Jan 11 at 5:00 pm.

Planning a few days in vina del mar after a cruise...any great spots to eat????

We are a Belgian retired couple wanting to rent a furnished apartment in Vina del Mar from November 27th 2005 till January 1st 2006, possibly even a month longer. We would like the apartment to have at least one separate bedroom and offer necessary standards of comfort. If possible, with seaview and not too far from shopping and restaurants. Looking at the Vina map, we were thinking about Avenidas Peru or Martin, or is this location too expensive at that time of year? Thank you for any suggestions, tips or offers!

My husband & I will be cruising out of Valpariso in January 2006, but need to spend one night in Vina del Mar. We hear it's a lovely area, but are very confused as to where we should stay. Also, my husband must have air conditioning and we noticed that most hotels either don't have it at all or just omit it from their listing of amenities. Anyone with hotel information is requested. Price is not necessarily an issue. Thank you.

I will be spending a few days in Chile next September. The main destination of my trip is Argentina, buit I thought that spending some time in Chile might be nice as well. I plan to visit Santiago and Vinya del Mar. Aside of beaches, spas, etc, is there anything interesting to see or to do in VdM or surropunding areas?

4 Aussie guys looking for answers...again.

Off to Chile.......fairly opened and unplanned as yet. Tossing between Santiago or Vina del Mar or a combo of both. Is there an exodus from the cities during mid Jan for the coastal towns? With our last week there we see it as a place to unwind before we go back home. By unwind we mean sleep every 2nd night instead of not at all. Also, would love info on rafting day trips...class IV rapids are cool.

Would love to meet up with English speaking locals & fellow travellers. We will be there for a wek from 10 Jan 05

Is Vina del mar still a busy place with tourists in April (3-9)? I'm travelling back from Antarctica with a friend and we would like a beach, some bars and good food, is this the place for us? What will the temperature be in April?

Are there shuttles or easy transportation from Santiago international airport to hotels by the beach in Vina del Mar? There will be two of us travelling, arriving around 7 AM at the airport.
