Bolzano Villa(s) for rent
Posted: Sun January 6, 2008 05:12 PM UTC
Several families are traveling to San Genesio for a wedding in August. Does anyone know of a villa or several villas that would be close by. Bozan would be a great location or San Genesio if possible. We would all like to be in the same area and the hotels are reluctant to book for only three or four days when it is their high season. Thanks

Bolzano Not sure about base location :(
Posted: Tue September 25, 2007 04:46 PM UTC
Dear VTers,

we (2 couples on late 20s) will be for a 3 wk holiday in Italy.
Will visit Rome (looking for some history & points of interest),
visit Fiesole (looking for points of interest & Firenze),
visit Sirmione (looking for lakes & fun),
and will also visit Alto Adige Bolzano area next June for 7 days. We're looking for hikes, nature, lakes, culture & the alps.

We would like to stay in a self catering accomodation (preferably an Agriturismo). We would like to stay in a small town, in a country side to enjoy nature & walking. We are trying to avoid cities and are looking for a peaceful place where to spend our 7 days in heaven. From our base we would like to visit Bolzano, Madonna di Campilio, Cortina D'ampezzo, Tures, Insbruck.

Lot of you suggested Cortina D'Ampezzo. Seems like a excellent place but prices are sky high. Now I found another apartment in San Genesio, which will only cost us about EUR60 per night for an apartment sleeps 4.

Now our dilemma is :
Shall we stay in San Genesio or is it far from the mountains?
If we stay in a town on a mountain, wouldn't it be too far away from maybe some night life?

Thanks in advance,
Ronnie

Is this a walkable distance, or would we be better taking a taxi? Are there any good bicycle shops in Bolzano?

Bolzano Living in Bolzano
Posted: Mon August 27, 2007 10:05 PM UTC
I am an English speaker who is about to move to Bolzano for 6 months to play hockey and I was wondering if anyone knew what it's like to live there. Are there many english speakers there? What's the social scene like? Is it easy to get around without a car; I was going and buy a bike there. Are the streets paved well enought to use my rollerblades

Bolzano Dolomite Hikes
Posted: Thu March 22, 2007 08:58 PM UTC
I will return a rental car to Bolzano in late June 2007 and plan to hike to a refugio the next day. I arrive in Bolzano in the afternoon so I do not anticipate hiking the day of arrival. I would appreciate any suggestions on specific all-day trails to a rifugio and whether I should begin the hike in Bolzano (I assume not) or a nearby town. I am looking for moderate hikes that require no mountaineering gear other than a walking stick. Thanks!

Bolzano Day Hikes?
Posted: Wed March 21, 2007 11:15 PM UTC
Does anyone know of a moderately difficult day hike in the Bolzano area? We like hiking small mountains, but won't have a lot of gear or time. We'll also need to take public transit to/from the trailhead. Any suggestions?

Bolzano Markets and farm sales: Local? Organic?
Posted: Sun March 18, 2007 12:24 PM UTC
Third year in a row we will be spending our summer in Bolzano. This time for a whole month in a small house close to San Genesio.
We have of course by now found the supermarkets, the touristic fruit and vegtablemarket in center of Bolzano and even the Saturday Market. BUT we still hope to find more local markets - where are they? We've heard about a farmers market - but when and where? We are even looking for farm sales - preferably with organic products and/or any specialities (cheese, meat etc.). We are happy to drive some distance.
Can any local VTmembers help us?

Bolzano Venice to Bolzano
Posted: Wed January 31, 2007 03:09 AM UTC
We'll be in Italy in late May early June and will be spending one night in Bolzano on our way from Venice to Lake Como. Does anyone have information about the buses that would take us from Venice on the "Great Dolomites Road"? We'd like to take a scenic route since we're just in the Dolomites area that one day. Otherwise is there a day tour through the Dolomites that would give us a good overview for deciding on towns for subsequent trips?
Thank you

Bolzano Information on hiking for 50 year olds
Posted: Thu January 18, 2007 03:49 AM UTC
My three friends and i are planning on coming to bolzano in mid may.

we want some detailed information about walking for moderately fit 50 yr olds. Walks of 2-3 hours duration would be good. We are also photographers, so will want good scenery to shoot.

We are after specific details ie where the walks starts, how to get to and from the start finish of the walk ie public transport (or if a car is required).

Any more info would be great!

Bolzano LEAVING FOR ITALY AND SWITZERLAND, need advice re: itinerary
Posted: Sat August 5, 2006 04:51 AM UTC
I am leaving for next weekend, and still could not determine my itinerary. PLEASE HELP. Here are the variables. I can fly in any larger city in Italy via either Munich or Frankfurt, I think it would be Florence ( I have been to Milan and Venice recently). I would like to spend a day or two there, and head north. I am traveling with two kids, 5 and 7 yrs. There is only that much of Uffizi they are going to let me enjoy. BUT they are good walkers, thus I am thinking ...Dolomites or Alps…castles.

Here is a problem. I do not drive, so would have to take a train (or plain again). I never traveled by train in Italy, so my be I am romanticizing the experience. Advice? I would like to spend a couple more days in Northern Italy ( at this point not sure north east or north west), best case scenario is to be able to hike, walk and take trips from there to Switzerland, then maybe head to Innsbruck or Zurich.

I could not find a nice destination with good train connection in the north-west, that would allow me to take some scenic trains to Switzerland and do some moderate hiking. The only town that has a fare train connection in the Dolomites is Bozen, but it seems that it is far from nicer hiking destinations, and has no connection to Switzerland. I would have to go to Innsbruck and then come back to Switzerland. I have 10 days, but with the kids I cannot be on the move every night. I am looking for towns in Italy, Austria, Switzerland (preferably not St. Moritz type of towns) with train or very good bus connection where I can stay for 2-4 days.

Any advice is appreciated, also re: train pass vs. point -to -point tickets.

thanks

Bolzano Travelling from Bolzano to Turin
Posted: Wed July 26, 2006 02:46 AM UTC
Hi there,

I'm a little confused about getting a train from Bolzano to Turin. I went to the trenitalia web site and it implies that I have to catch two trains yet only shows one train trip to Milan...

What is the easiest way to get there? Are we better off flying?

Thank you.

Bolzano Hotel Bolzano area
Posted: Thu June 22, 2006 08:05 PM UTC
We will be in the Dolomites in a few weeks, and would like recommendations on Charming/memorable/don't miss this place type hotel to stay at for 2 nights.

We are driving, so it doesn't have to be directly in Bolzano. Tell us your favorite. as always, the less costly the better.

Also advise if you know an unforgettable place to eat, and favorite wine for the area.

Thanks all you wanderers.

Bolzano Munich to Bolzano area
Posted: Sat April 29, 2006 02:59 PM UTC
We are flying into Munich July 6,2006 and will be staying at La residenza Parco dello Stelvio - near Bolzano - from July 8 through July 15. This is our first time to Europe and clueless! Is the rail system the best way to get around or should we rent a car? Does any one know how to get to La residenza Parco dello Stelvio? Should we take a train to Bolzano and a bus to the resort? What are the alternatives for transportation?
We want to use this resort as a home-base to travel to Florence and Venice - maybe Rome if time permits. July 15 through July 22 we have a place to stay in France - Club Le Bristol - Isola, which is also in the alps. So we have to get from Bolzano area to there. We fly out of Munich July 27, so we have 5 days without a place to stay as of yet. We plan to use those 5 days to go to Paris and other places in France of which we have not decided.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Gary

Bolzano The Dolomites
Posted: Mon June 20, 2005 08:27 PM UTC
We are planning a 10 day trip that I have only dream about. Seeing and hiking in the Dolomites would just be awesome. Best air fare from UK is to Venice Treviso. We will hire a car and as we have never been into the area before thought that Bolzano would be a good place to make base. Any recomendations as to where to stay? Self catering chalet with a view would be great. If not, decent size hotel preferred. Any advice appreciated!

Bolzano Trains to Bolzano
Posted: Tue February 22, 2005 04:11 AM UTC
I was through Bolzano on the train from Innsbruck last summer. This summer I planned to take the train from Munich to Bolzano and stay a few days. However, the Eurail site does not recognize Bolzano as a destination ( it did a few months ago). Is not possible to take the train to Bolzano now for some reason? I will have to find a different way to get to Bolzano if that is true.

Thanks,

Tim Stone
