| Stuttgart | World's Largest Flower To Be Blooming Next Week Posted: Sat July 19, 2008 03:27 PM UTC
Not a question but an information for those who are around Baden-Württemberg next week...
The Wilhelma, the botanical garden and zoo in Stuttgart, is expecting a big event next week. The plant with the largest inflorescence in the world, the titan arum (Amorphophallis titanun), is producing a flower after 3 years of rest. This is the very same plant that broke the world record in October 2005 with a flower of 2.94 m height. The flower will be fully open for one single hour. This is expected to happen next Wednesday, July 23 - but no one knows for sure. The Stuttgart plant has been named "La Diva" for some reason... Half-opened it's impressive enough, though. Wilhelma's Titan Arum Diary (with photos): http://www.wilhelma.de/nc/de/ereignisse/titanenwur Webcam: http://www.swr.de/regionen/stuttgart/titanenwurz/- Wikipedia on titan arum: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amorphophallus_titanum |

| Stuttgart | Rental Car returns on Sunday Posted: Tue May 20, 2008 04:23 PM UTC
I was looking at rental cars from the Stuttgart train station but I wanted to return the car in a town closer to Tubingen (such as herrenberg, Plochingen, Reutlingen etc). Basically, I want to rent a car Saturday late afternoon and drop it off on Sunday afternoon. However, most rental car companies are closed on Sunday (except at the Stuttgart train station and airport). But, I am not sure if any have after hours drop off service.
In the U.S., most rental car companies have after hours drop off, does anyone know if this service is available in Germany especially at some of the towns between Stuttgart and Tubingen? |

| Stuttgart | Language course in Stuttgart Posted: Sun May 18, 2008 12:26 AM UTC
A Korean friend of mine is traveling to Stuttgart around late summer this year to follow her fiance, who is German but who is also new to Stuttgart and seemingly doesn't know his way around town as yet.
Obviously, as they will be living there for quite a while she wants to learn the German language and is therefore looking for German language centers, institutes or university courses. My question: Does any VTer know details or can recommend any specific language program in Stuttgart? Can she study at the university without actually enrolling in studies like Germanistik? She wants to learn as fast as possible and looks for intensive courses of around six months to one year, Monday to Friday if available. Any ideas are appreciated... Thanks in advance! Cheers, Robert |

| Stuttgart | IKEA Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 07:54 PM UTC
Hello,
A friend wants to go to Ikea in Sindelfingen or Ludwigsburg but dont know how to with public transport, can anyone help? Sindelfingen would be a better option for her, however it seems not so possible to get to without a car. The Ludwigsburg branch is further but when I look on the web, there seems to be 3 buses stopping just outside. Where do these buses depart from? Can she get the bus from Ludwisburg/Tamm S-Bahn Station or Stuttgart Hbf? Can she check the bus schedule somewhere? Thanks! |

| Stuttgart | Need to find a nice place for 80th anniversary celebration Posted: Sat April 19, 2008 05:27 PM UTC
A father of my friend will be 80 in the beginning of this September. He is living in Stuttgart and will be visited by his local friends as well as by his children, grandchilren, other relatives and friends from around of the World. His daughter will organize the celebration but since she is living far away and does not speak good German she is asking for help in finding nice place for the event.
She is looking for a nice Gasthof (or Gasthause) with a nice restaurant for ca. 40 people. They also will need to book several rooms for approximately 10 guest, who would prefer to stay in the Gasthof for 3-5 days and make some sightseeing. It should be nice, picturesque place which is also easy reachable from Stuttgart by local transport since it will be hard to organize good transportation for such amount of guests. Advices, hints and help in finding sutable place will be very highly appreciated! |

| Stuttgart | Stuttgart Restaurant Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 01:59 PM UTC
Hi does anyone have a recommendation for a good and not-so-ex Italian/Mexican/Thai restaurant in the city centre? We are hoping to go there during lunchtime over the weekend so hopefully it is open.
Some colleagues recommended the area near Eberhardstr near the Tagblatt Turm. Anything good there? Thanks. |

| Stuttgart | U.S. Military Base at Stuttgart Posted: Sun February 3, 2008 06:21 PM UTC
My son has been stationed there, and I'm looking for other parents who've also got sons or daughters there. Have you been or are you planning to visit? I've been researching the area and plan to go later this year. (too bad I can't go before March, airfare is only about $400 from Memphis right now!)

My wife and I will be basing out from Stuttgart for 6 days in February (15th through 21st). Is anyone interested in having a coffee or seeing any local sites?
If anyone has any side trips to Strasbourg, Karlsruhe, Esslingen, or other interesting towns in and around Stuttgart, we would be glad to share petrol expenses or buy a lunch or two in exchange for some good local tours of off the beaten path locations! |

| Stuttgart | Stuttgart with two young children........Help? Posted: Tue October 23, 2007 09:19 AM UTC
Hi Second Posting the first ended in up with the Moroccos and Marakesh's!
Any suggestions, we are flying into Stuttgart in January and are yet to book our accomodation. To a certain extent price isn't a problem, but its my daughters 10th birthday while we are there, so just to make it memorable. Why did I book Stuttgart......I imagined Snow and Log Cabins, not very good at Geography! Is there somewhere within an hour or so that fits this criteria or is Stuttgart child friendly enough, it seems a very grown up place to go. My daughter would love Chateaus etc and my son is a seven year old action man. We are happy with a couple of quiet days of walks etc, but we are only there for four days, Thanks. |

| Stuttgart | Stuttgart low cost accomodations/family history Posted: Fri October 5, 2007 07:49 PM UTC
Hello,
We will be traveling in Germany during the last week of July 2008. We are a family of 4 (children 11 & 13) and would like to find a nice place to stay around Stuttgart that doesn't cost too much. We are also interested in trying to research some family history. My wife's family name is Bracher and the family oral history is that her ancestors were officials in Stuttgart in the early to middle 1800's. John |

| Stuttgart | Mercedes Benz Museum Posted: Tue September 25, 2007 08:26 PM UTC
Hi, me & my husband plan to visit Stuttgart in a day trip giving priority to see Mercedes Benz Museum. Any tips please? Do we need to book in advance thru the internet or we can just go there and buy a ticket? How do we get there from the train main station?
After visiting the museum, are there any near highlights or places worth seeing? We'll be coming with our 2 year old son, afterwhich we'll be going back to Mainz where we will be based. |

| Stuttgart | Baden-Württemberg Rail Pass ? Posted: Tue August 21, 2007 05:51 AM UTC
Myself and my wife will be in the German State of Baden-Württemberg for 24Sept2007 till 09Oct2007. We will be several days in Sindelfingen at the beginning of our trip and several days at the end of our trip. We would like cheap rail travel during that time within Baden-Württemberg. Will someone please advise what would be best for us purchase since we will travel often by Rail from city to city within Baden-Württemberg. I have heard that is some form of a ticket that will allow one to use all forms of public transportation in Baden-Württemberg at a special discounted price. Thanks

| Stuttgart | Day trip from Stuttgart? Posted: Wed July 11, 2007 07:31 AM UTC
A friend of mine is visiting her college age daughter, who is working for the summer in Stuttgart.
She is wondering what they can see in a day and get back, as her daughter has curfew. Tourist attractions are important, but this is a sharing experience first. They can rent a car, but that is not her first preference. Time wasted traveling is a concern, however. Any train connections should be minimal. If a car is reguired, a car it is. Any suggestestions will be genuinly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

| Stuttgart | Short stopover in Stuttgart Posted: Mon July 9, 2007 10:46 AM UTC
I'll be in Stuttgart for two hours in August. Instead of just sitting at the station for two hours, I'm thinking of taking a stroll into town. Can anyone tell me how long (more or less) it would take to walk the following route:
From Hauptbanhof down Koningstrasse to Schlobplatz, then from Schlobplatz to Marktplatz via Schillerplatz, then into Muntzstr back to Schlobplatz, then from Schlobplatz into the park area with the Art Gallery, and then past the pond/lake into Puttitzweg and back to Hauptbanhof I'll be in Stuttgart on a Sunday (after 11:00). Many thanks. |

| Stuttgart | Bus from Hbf to Airport Posted: Tue April 17, 2007 10:58 PM UTC
Many years ago I caught a bus from the Hbf to the airport but as both areas have undergone a lot of changes in that time could someone tell me if this is still the case. Where does one catch the bus? I am familiar with the Ausgang that leads to Koenigstrasse. It was a bus direct to the airport, not a suburban bus.
