Where to cliff dive by Stuttgart? Posted: Wed September 2, 2009 12:53 PM UTC
Hi, I just moved to Stuttgart, Germany about three weeks ago. Now I'm kind of getting the urge to go cliff jumping and swimming. If anyone knows of a good stop, I'd really appreciate hearing about it. It doesn't need to be very high, 10-30 ft will be fine. Thanks much for your help!

Stuttgart - day trips Posted: Thu August 6, 2009 05:52 AM UTC
Hi
i want to make a day trip to Strasbourg from Stuttgart. What would be the best way to travel? It's a group of 4, so would it be cheaper to rent a car than to take the tain? is their any local travel agency in Stuttgart who organizes day trips for small groups?
Is there any nice scenic place i can visit in half a day?
Thanks for the help!

Traveling from Karlsbad to Frankfurt Posted: Wed March 25, 2009 03:32 PM UTC
Good day. I am going to be in Karlsbad for work in a few weeks and will need transportation from Karlsbad to the Frankfurt airport one weekday morning. I am not familiar with the Rail Transportation structure and would like to know if the train from Stuttgart to Frankfurt is via Karlsbad. Or if there is a means to get from Karlsbad or there abouts to Frankfurt airport.
Any information would be appreciated.
Kind Regards/Mit freundlichen Grußen;

A weekend away 24-26 Jan 09 Posted: Sat January 10, 2009 01:36 AM UTC
I know it's not high season and Stuttgart is very cold now (for me anyway). But I have just bought the ticket there for a weekend, just want to get away. :) I will be staying at Millennium Stuttgart in SI Centrum.
Please someone tell me, I don't want to spend a lot, just want to relax, walk around, see the city and people, and go to some more local places to eat, drink, and have a dance maybe? The tips on here seems a bit old (2006). Someone please give me some updated idea.
I really don't want to go to very pretentious expensive places. I like little local place with Germans! :)
Thanks a lot in advance.

Porsche Factory Tour Posted: Fri December 26, 2008 12:57 AM UTC
Hello, I see someone asked this question 2 years ago but I am just checking to see if there is any new info on the subject. My sister and I will be in Stuttgart in April to see the Mercedes museum, the Porsche Museum and (hopefully) to tour the Porsche factory. I have checked out the Porsche website but it does not say EXACTLY how to make a reservation for the tour of the factory. Can someone give me the email addy or the direct phone number to arrange a tour? thank you! (sorry for the abreviated question previously--my finger slipped!)

Musical or show in English, romantic dinner for two Posted: Sat October 18, 2008 03:54 PM UTC
Hello fellow VTers,
I wonder whether there is any musical or theatre play shown in English here in Stuttgart. The musicals that are currently running are all performed in German of course but seeing that there are a lot of Americans in the city, I wonder weather Stuttgart offers something to them?
Other than that, is there any restaurant that offers some nice, romantic and comfy-warm (it's pretty cold outside these days) dining atmosphere... preferably with some kind of night view? Unfortunately, the TV tower doesn't have one. Would be the perfect place for a revolving restaurant.
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Robert

cruise Posted: Sun July 27, 2008 01:28 PM UTC
I want to give an uncle of mine a gift coupon for a river cruise. He is 80 years old, so the cruise shouldn`t begin too far from Stuttgart, where he lives. The cruise should take 2 - 3 days. Now I`m searching for a travel agency or cruise company which sells vouchers without fixed dates and which offers cruises on rivers in Germany. Any suggestions? Maybe a trip on Neckar??
Thanx in advance...

World's Largest Flower To Be Blooming Next Week Posted: Sat July 19, 2008 04:27 PM UTC
Not a question but an information for those who are around Baden-Württemberg next week...
The Wilhelma, the botanical garden and zoo in Stuttgart, is expecting a big event next week. The plant with the largest inflorescence in the world, the titan arum (Amorphophallis titanun), is producing a flower after 3 years of rest. This is the very same plant that broke the world record in October 2005 with a flower of 2.94 m height.
The flower will be fully open for one single hour. This is expected to happen next Wednesday, July 23 - but no one knows for sure. The Stuttgart plant has been named "La Diva" for some reason... Half-opened it's impressive enough, though.

Rental Car returns on Sunday Posted: Tue May 20, 2008 05:23 PM UTC
I was looking at rental cars from the Stuttgart train station but I wanted to return the car in a town closer to Tubingen (such as herrenberg, Plochingen, Reutlingen etc). Basically, I want to rent a car Saturday late afternoon and drop it off on Sunday afternoon. However, most rental car companies are closed on Sunday (except at the Stuttgart train station and airport). But, I am not sure if any have after hours drop off service.
In the U.S., most rental car companies have after hours drop off, does anyone know if this service is available in Germany especially at some of the towns between Stuttgart and Tubingen?

Language course in Stuttgart Posted: Sun May 18, 2008 01:26 AM UTC
A Korean friend of mine is traveling to Stuttgart around late summer this year to follow her fiance, who is German but who is also new to Stuttgart and seemingly doesn't know his way around town as yet.
Obviously, as they will be living there for quite a while she wants to learn the German language and is therefore looking for German language centers, institutes or university courses.
My question:
Does any VTer know details or can recommend any specific language program in Stuttgart? Can she study at the university without actually enrolling in studies like Germanistik? She wants to learn as fast as possible and looks for intensive courses of around six months to one year, Monday to Friday if available.
Any ideas are appreciated...
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Robert

IKEA Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 08:54 PM UTC
Hello,
A friend wants to go to Ikea in Sindelfingen or Ludwigsburg but dont know how to with public transport, can anyone help?
Sindelfingen would be a better option for her, however it seems not so possible to get to without a car.
The Ludwigsburg branch is further but when I look on the web, there seems to be 3 buses stopping just outside. Where do these buses depart from? Can she get the bus from Ludwisburg/Tamm S-Bahn Station or Stuttgart Hbf?
Can she check the bus schedule somewhere?
Thanks!

Need to find a nice place for 80th anniversary celebration Posted: Sat April 19, 2008 06:27 PM UTC
A father of my friend will be 80 in the beginning of this September. He is living in Stuttgart and will be visited by his local friends as well as by his children, grandchilren, other relatives and friends from around of the World. His daughter will organize the celebration but since she is living far away and does not speak good German she is asking for help in finding nice place for the event.
She is looking for a nice Gasthof (or Gasthause) with a nice restaurant for ca. 40 people. They also will need to book several rooms for approximately 10 guest, who would prefer to stay in the Gasthof for 3-5 days and make some sightseeing. It should be nice, picturesque place which is also easy reachable from Stuttgart by local transport since it will be hard to organize good transportation for such amount of guests.
Advices, hints and help in finding sutable place will be very highly appreciated!

Stuttgart Restaurant Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 02:59 PM UTC
Hi does anyone have a recommendation for a good and not-so-ex Italian/Mexican/Thai restaurant in the city centre? We are hoping to go there during lunchtime over the weekend so hopefully it is open.
Some colleagues recommended the area near Eberhardstr near the Tagblatt Turm. Anything good there?
Thanks.

U.S. Military Base at Stuttgart Posted: Sun February 3, 2008 07:21 PM UTC
My son has been stationed there, and I'm looking for other parents who've also got sons or daughters there. Have you been or are you planning to visit? I've been researching the area and plan to go later this year. (too bad I can't go before March, airfare is only about $400 from Memphis right now!)

Any local Stuttgart Members? Posted: Fri January 4, 2008 03:06 PM UTC
My wife and I will be basing out from Stuttgart for 6 days in February (15th through 21st). Is anyone interested in having a coffee or seeing any local sites?
If anyone has any side trips to Strasbourg, Karlsruhe, Esslingen, or other interesting towns in and around Stuttgart, we would be glad to share petrol expenses or buy a lunch or two in exchange for some good local tours of off the beaten path locations!
