Buenos Aires Travel between Airports
Posted: Thu July 30, 2009 06:46 PM UTC
How long would it take to get from AEP airport near the center to EZE airport at around 21:00 on a Sunday? Are there traffic problems in Buenos Aires? I'm assuming taxi is the only means of transport in this case...

Buenos Aires Weather Question
Posted: Thu July 30, 2009 02:00 AM UTC
Greetings, all,

I have the option of going to Buenos Aires either during December 11-17 or January 19-24. I see that the average high temperatures in December and January are 28 and 30.5, respectively. Is it unbearably hot in January (compared to December) and should this month be avoided? Is it generally dry or humid?

Buenos Aires Local phone calls
Posted: Tue July 14, 2009 03:14 PM UTC
Hello deal virtual tourists,

I am from Germany and will be attending a Conference in Buenos Aires with my colleagues from work. During the conference which will last about 10 days, we will have to call each other very often.
What do you reckon would be the best solution :
- buying a sim card just for the 10 days ? If yes where and what which company sell such things ? How much do they cost approx. ?
- is there anything like a code that you can dial from an foreign pin card that makes the local calls less expensive ?
- one last question when you are coming from Europe do you need an adapter for the plugs?

Thanx in advance for your precious advices,
Isabel

Buenos Aires Buenos Aires Hostels? Which would be best?
Posted: Tue July 14, 2009 02:05 AM UTC
Hi again Guys, we are coming to Argentina late next month and have begun our search for somewhere to stay, we are looking at a hostel in a great location that preferably has double private ensuite rooms, but we will do shared bathrooms if they are a lot cheaper or the hostel is in a great location. We are not big partiers but we enjoy having a few drinks every now & again - I am assuming at this time of the year any hostel isn't going to be mega busy?

We will be arriving at about 7pm at EZE airport and I have been told it may take at least 2 hours to get through customs & get into town - therefore we really need somewhere that is easy enough for a taxi driver to get to at night and so we wouldn't have to walk far as I am imagining we would be pretty jet lagged after a long couple of days of travelling.

Based on location (or if you have stayed at any of these) which hostel would you reccomend?

I have had some great tips from the people on these boards and I am very greatful!!

Milhouse Avenue in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Avenida de Mayo 1245, 1086, $88AR each for double private ensuite.

Palermo House in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Thames 1754, 1414, $65AR each for double private ensuite.

Hostel Sol in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Lima 1169, 1073, $79AR each double private ensuite.

Pangea Hostel Buenos Aires in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Avenida Entre Rios 1222, 1133, $60AR each double private ensuite

The Hostel-Inn Tango City in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Piedras 680 san Telmo, 1070, $63AR each double private ensuite.

I;m planning on going to Buenos Aires this month, july 17 with a friend. We are gonna stay there for 9 days but i'm kinda of worried about the swine flu that is in Argentina. In the news they said that the country is in an emergency health and that they are thinking about closing all public places.......this really sucks because then i won't be able to go anywhere. I also dont want to get sick......What can i do? I really want to go to Buenos Aires and the ticket i bought is non-refundable, but i'm concerned about the influenza. Somebody help me please??

I expect that almost everything will be closed, and there may be other days during this period when stores/museums will be closed. Buenos Aires Please help! Big Favor: someone near Cafe Tortino in BA
Posted: Mon June 8, 2009 11:52 PM UTC
Hello all,

I posted in other forums and am still looking for help. I have a big favor to ask of someone able to get to Cafe Tortoni at Avenida de Mayo 825 in Buenos Aires.

We saw the tango show and my friend loved it. She bought the CD and had it autographed to her by the piano player Jorge Rattoni.

We lost the CD when we forgot it in the rental car. With my non-existent Spanish, I've been calling the car rental agency to no avail. They say they haven't been unable to find it.

Trying to buy it, have it autographed, and shipped from Cafe Tortino has not worked either.

So this is a big favor to ask of someone, begging at this point. Can someone near Cafe Tortino, buy the CD, have it autographed to my friend and mail it to me?

I will, of course, pay for all costs, and for the time and trouble.

She really loved the show and it would be a nice surprise if this can be done.

I found a picture of him on the web if needed and here's a link to showtimes.

www.cafetortoni.com.ar/html/agenda_vr.html

If anyone has any other ideas in doing this or can get Cafe Tortino staff to help, it would be greatly appreciated!

If you can, please help!

Sorry if I've posted in the wrong forum.

Buenos Aires Would I be welcomed in Buenos Aires?

I heard Argentina is extremely racist, which is why I posed this question.

My skin color is basically the same as Obama's, and I have the same background. 50/50 white black mix.

Thanks.

Buenos Aires Mexican traveling in Buenos Aires (in Influenza times)
Posted: Mon May 4, 2009 06:53 AM UTC
Hello all,
As you all know, there's been a worldwide concern about the influenza outbreak that likely started in Mexico recently. Thanks to the paranoia sparked by the media and I guess due to some people's ignorance, many people from Mexico have complained that they've been discriminated in other countries for the simple fact of being Mexican, whether they have been to Mexico recently or not.

I am Mexican but I live in Canada and I already have reservations to travel in May to Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. However, I am seriously considering postponing the trip after reading many stories about how some Mexicans have been treated these days outside Mexico. It's really sad but it seems to be true.

I have never been to Argentina before but I know Argentina was one of the only 5 countries world-wide who banned their flights to/from Mexico so I wonder how the situation is seen right now over there? I wonder if people who live in BA can share some advice about the general sentiment regarding the influenza and people from Mexico these days? I am really excited about going to Buenos Aires, but I wouldnt like my holidays to be spoiled for something like this... I really hope I am wrong and that people aren't being paranoid about it.. I just wanted to double check and hopefully hear other people's advice before taking any decision.

Thank you very much in advance,

-L

Buenos Aires Arriving at Buenos Aires EZE Airport
Posted: Tue April 28, 2009 06:09 PM UTC
A friend and I will arrive from the U.S. to EZE Airport on a Thursday in June at 8:00 a.m. We are renting an apartment in Palermo for a week. The rental company assumes we will arrive at the apartment at 9:30 a.m. but I don't think we'll get through Customs, get money at an ATM in the airport, get a taxi to Palermo all in one and a half hours. Can anyone suggest how much time we should allow from airport arrival to arrival in Palermo?

Buenos Aires Distance from Scalabrini Ortiz, line D, to Puerto Madero via Subte?
Posted: Sat April 25, 2009 07:43 PM UTC
I am considering an apartment a block from Scalabrini Ortiz, but will be working in Puerto Madero every day in BsAs. How long will it take to go from Scalibrini Ortiz to Puerto Madero via Subte?

Also, what is the area near Scalabrini Ortiz like? Is it safe? Restaurants? Movies? If you have any insight -- I would really appreciate it!

Gracias & Cheers!

Buenos Aires Football experience
Posted: Fri April 17, 2009 01:52 PM UTC
I have been looking at different options for a guided tour to a Boca Juniors game. I am only using an agency since I am trying to get tickets to an impossible game! I have also come across many counterfeit tickets and scams in my four months here, and was wondering if anyone has used Juancho football for an excursion and if they had a good experience. Thanks!
