Buenos Aires Traveling to Buenos Aires
Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 05:47 AM UTC
I;m planning on going to Buenos Aires this month, july 17 with a friend. We are gonna stay there for 9 days but i'm kinda of worried about the swine flu that is in Argentina. In the news they said that the country is in an emergency health and that they are thinking about closing all public places.......this really sucks because then i won't be able to go anywhere. I also dont want to get sick......What can i do? I really want to go to Buenos Aires and the ticket i bought is non-refundable, but i'm concerned about the influenza. Somebody help me please??

Buenos Aires WHat to see in and around Buenos Aires
Posted: Sun June 28, 2009 09:37 AM UTC
MY wife and I will be in Buenos Aires for a few days in August. We are looking for suggestions as to a good place to stay (comfortable, not too expensive, convenient to transportation and major tourist attactsions) as well as worthwhile things to see in the city and nearby. We are mostly intersted in cultural things, not beaches.

Daughter and I will be in BA Dec. 26 - Jan. 3. We do not care about New Years Eve festivities, but do want to be able to do somthing on New Years Day. I expect that almost everything will be closed, and there may be other days during this period when stores/museums will be closed. Any advice on closings during this period and things to do on New Years Day would be appreciated.

Buenos Aires Please help! Big Favor: someone near Cafe Tortino in BA
Posted: Mon June 8, 2009 10:52 PM UTC
Hello all,

I posted in other forums and am still looking for help. I have a big favor to ask of someone able to get to Cafe Tortoni at Avenida de Mayo 825 in Buenos Aires.

We saw the tango show and my friend loved it. She bought the CD and had it autographed to her by the piano player Jorge Rattoni.

We lost the CD when we forgot it in the rental car. With my non-existent Spanish, I've been calling the car rental agency to no avail. They say they haven't been unable to find it.

Trying to buy it, have it autographed, and shipped from Cafe Tortino has not worked either.

So this is a big favor to ask of someone, begging at this point. Can someone near Cafe Tortino, buy the CD, have it autographed to my friend and mail it to me?

I will, of course, pay for all costs, and for the time and trouble.

She really loved the show and it would be a nice surprise if this can be done.

I found a picture of him on the web if needed and here's a link to showtimes.

www.cafetortoni.com.ar/html/agenda_vr.html

If anyone has any other ideas in doing this or can get Cafe Tortino staff to help, it would be greatly appreciated!

If you can, please help!

Sorry if I've posted in the wrong forum.

Buenos Aires Would I be welcomed in Buenos Aires?
Posted: Tue May 12, 2009 05:10 AM UTC
I heard Argentina is extremely racist, which is why I posed this question.

My skin color is basically the same as Obama's, and I have the same background. 50/50 white black mix.

Thanks.

Buenos Aires Mexican traveling in Buenos Aires (in Influenza times)
Posted: Mon May 4, 2009 05:53 AM UTC
Hello all,
As you all know, there's been a worldwide concern about the influenza outbreak that likely started in Mexico recently. Thanks to the paranoia sparked by the media and I guess due to some people's ignorance, many people from Mexico have complained that they've been discriminated in other countries for the simple fact of being Mexican, whether they have been to Mexico recently or not.

I am Mexican but I live in Canada and I already have reservations to travel in May to Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. However, I am seriously considering postponing the trip after reading many stories about how some Mexicans have been treated these days outside Mexico. It's really sad but it seems to be true.

I have never been to Argentina before but I know Argentina was one of the only 5 countries world-wide who banned their flights to/from Mexico so I wonder how the situation is seen right now over there? I wonder if people who live in BA can share some advice about the general sentiment regarding the influenza and people from Mexico these days? I am really excited about going to Buenos Aires, but I wouldnt like my holidays to be spoiled for something like this... I really hope I am wrong and that people aren't being paranoid about it.. I just wanted to double check and hopefully hear other people's advice before taking any decision.

Thank you very much in advance,

-L

Buenos Aires Arriving at Buenos Aires EZE Airport
Posted: Tue April 28, 2009 05:09 PM UTC
A friend and I will arrive from the U.S. to EZE Airport on a Thursday in June at 8:00 a.m. We are renting an apartment in Palermo for a week. The rental company assumes we will arrive at the apartment at 9:30 a.m. but I don't think we'll get through Customs, get money at an ATM in the airport, get a taxi to Palermo all in one and a half hours. Can anyone suggest how much time we should allow from airport arrival to arrival in Palermo?

Buenos Aires Distance from Scalabrini Ortiz, line D, to Puerto Madero via Subte?
Posted: Sat April 25, 2009 06:43 PM UTC
I am considering an apartment a block from Scalabrini Ortiz, but will be working in Puerto Madero every day in BsAs. How long will it take to go from Scalibrini Ortiz to Puerto Madero via Subte?

Also, what is the area near Scalabrini Ortiz like? Is it safe? Restaurants? Movies? If you have any insight -- I would really appreciate it!

Gracias & Cheers!

Buenos Aires Football experience
Posted: Fri April 17, 2009 12:52 PM UTC
I have been looking at different options for a guided tour to a Boca Juniors game. I am only using an agency since I am trying to get tickets to an impossible game! I have also come across many counterfeit tickets and scams in my four months here, and was wondering if anyone has used Juancho football for an excursion and if they had a good experience. Thanks!

Buenos Aires Traveling solo to Buenos Aires
Posted: Tue April 14, 2009 08:09 AM UTC
Hi there,
I am making up my mind last minute about going to BA around mid-May. I have a free flight and there seems to be availability for most of the month of May, so why not? Since I will probably go to Rio as well, I would be spending only 5 to 7 days in BA.

I am a guy, 33 yrs old, and I'm wondering whether people around my age hang out in hostels. It's been a while since I stayed in a hostel and since I traveled on my own! I've seen pictures of the hostels and in many I see mostly younger crowds... which is great, but it'd be nice also meeting older people since I don't think I can handle clubbing all night every day :)..
Although I'm a night owl and I'm always up to go for beers, chatting, late dinners, etc, I'd also like to see a football match, eating parrilladas, doing walks around the city, museums, some leather shopping, hanging out in local bars, oh, and dancing salsa.. It'd be great if I can find people with similar interests.

I'll be flying from Canada (my current home), but I'm from Mexico (my true home) so the language won't t be a problem. Actually, it's my chance to finally use the words "che" and "boludo" :). If anyone is planning to travel around those days and want to maybe hang out there, it'd be great... my contact info: llnavarro@yahoo.com

Any recommendation/advice will be appreciated very much..

gracias,
L

Buenos Aires dudas sobre Buenos Aires
Posted: Sat April 4, 2009 12:24 AM UTC
Hola amigos !!

El próximo jueves llego a Buenos Aires, estaré en vuestra linda ciudad 4 días, me van surgiendo algunas preguntas :
3. ¿qué tal tiempo hace ahora? , ¿ a qué hora oscurece ?
4.Y por último, ¿es seguro el metro ?

Muchas gracias. Un abrazo desde España

Buenos Aires Travelers Cheques
Posted: Tue March 31, 2009 08:49 PM UTC
I was at my bank today and was told that travelers cheques aren't accepted like they used to be because they are easy to counterfeit. I will have a debit card but also wanted to bring travelers cheques. Has anyone had luck using these in Argentina??

GRacias ;)

Buenos Aires Recommended "Home Base" in Buenos Aires
Posted: Sun March 22, 2009 05:56 AM UTC
As a follow up to an earlier question I posted, I am wondering what areas of Buenos Aires are recommended to rent an apartment in. I will be staying for a few weeks and am wondering which locations/areas in the city I should consider when selecting an apartment (close to shopping, restaurants, transportation, safe area of the city etc.) As they say, location location location! ;)

Buenos Aires Newbie

I read the tip about taxis at the airport, but I did not understand how to get a good one that is fair. Do they only take pesos or will they take dollars? What can you expect for the charge from the airport to San Telmo on Defensa street? What about tipping? What is customary? Sorry if the answers are somewhere on this site but I have missed them so far.

Buenos Aires Banks in Argentina?
Posted: Sun March 8, 2009 02:48 AM UTC
Hello all VTs! I'm moving to Argentina for almost a year (I'm sooo excited!) and need to know which bank should I open an account with. I remember what happened few years ago so I'm kind of cautious about having my money in the banks there. But I still need one to keep at least enough money for basic needs, so which one would be the most reliable one? Also since I'll be paid in $Dollars while living there, where can I get the best exchange rates to exchange my money into ARS (and if it's at the banks then which one)?
Thank you very much for your help!

Buenos Aires Accommodation Options in Buenos Aires for 3-4 Week Stay
Posted: Sun March 1, 2009 07:43 PM UTC
I have heard that you can rent apartments in BA for cheap ($600 for an entire month) but am not sure if my schedule will allow for me to spend an entire month there. Therefore I am wondering what other accommodation options would be my best bet if I were to spend 2-3 weeks there. Can I find similar deals for that length of a stay? Obviously I don't want to pay for a hotel!

Also, if I do decide to stay for a month, any tips on how to arrange securing an apartment would be useful as well.

Also, I will be reading up on BA in general on this site, but if any one has any recommendations on the must-do things there, as well as some excellent day-trips, winery tours, etc., it would be most appreciated!

Thanks,
Scott
