Salta Trip Advice Posted: Sun April 12, 2009 04:11 AM UTC
Hello. I was considering visiting Salta in the next few months and I don't know much about it except the photos that I have seen. I was interested in seeing the salt flats and some of the gorges. I heard it is generally better to book your trips when you arrive. I was wondering what should one definitely see when I am there. I want to go and see the salt flats and the mountains. I am guessing you can get tours when you arrive. I was wondering how much it would cost and is it possible to do the salt flats and surrounding areas in 1-2 days. Thanks

Bussing from Salta Posted: Fri December 26, 2008 11:37 PM UTC
Hello all,
I am flying into Salta from Bs.As. in a couple weeks and I need to take a bus from Salta capital to a small town in the north of Salta province. I did this several years ago but I don't remember much of anything about the process...
I land in Salta at 2:00 in the afternoon and would like to go to the terminal right away if possible. I feel like a dunce asking all this, but hopefully someone can help me out:
1. Grabbing a taxi from the airport, are they just outside the terminal? Is there a specific company I want to look for? I know in Bs.As. I always use the Manuel Leon, as advised by others, but I don't know what the deal is in Salta.
2. What's the name of the terminal/where do I tell the driver I need to go?
I've checked the schedule on La Veloz website so I should be able to get a bus that afternoon and be on my way.
Thanks for your help and if you see any glaring holes in my plan, or know of any important information I should know that concerns this, please let me know. I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks.

Salta to Iguazu Posted: Thu November 6, 2008 04:02 PM UTC
Is there any way to travel from Salta to Iguazu by plane, without having to stop in Buenos Aires? I was hoping to fly direct, but cannot seem to find anything. Perhaps there are charter flights available through a local travel agency in Salta? Any suggestions?

The train to the clouds will operate soon Posted: Sun October 7, 2007 12:56 PM UTC
"Fuentes empresariales señalaron que en rigor, las primeras dos fechas están programadas para noviembre y diciembre de este año y que a partir de la semana entrante, se empezarán a vender los pasajes para la nueva temporada que arranca en marzo de 2008. La refacción de los 10 vagones que componen el tren y su puesta en marcha insumió alrededor de 45 millones de pesos que invirtió el sector privado y 27 millones más que el gobierno nacional destinó a la refacción de las vías."
It says that the first two runs are scheduled for november and december. And that they will start to sell tickets for the new season (starting in March 2008) the next week.

Problems breathing in Argentine NW, esp. for babies? Posted: Sun July 22, 2007 07:13 PM UTC
Hello,
We have a 5-month old baby and we'd like to visit the Argentine NW, probably using Salta as a main hub and going to San Antonio de los Cobres, Salinas Grandes, Humahuaca, etc, etc. A few of those are way up there in terms of elevation. Before we had the baby, we traveled to Cusco so we're familiar with high altitude headaches, etc. We're not concerned about us, but we are concerned about our baby.
Have you or anybody you know traveled to the Argentine NW with a baby? What do you recommend? I remember in Cusco you could rent an oxygen tank - perhaps that would be an option in Salta and suroundings?
thanks!
Carlos

Hola!
Gracias!

travel to salta Posted: Mon April 9, 2007 07:12 AM UTC
I am planning a 3 day 2 night stay in the NW area of Argentina in May. Probably will fly there from Buenos Aires. I would like to see Jujuy, Salta and travel down to Cafayate, and Tucuman. Without renting a car, is it better to take a bus between the cities, hire a car, or go with a tour company. Also can anyone recommend a tour company that does 1 or 2 day tours through these cities?
Thank you!

Rental car agency in Salta Posted: Sat November 12, 2005 12:09 AM UTC
We are a group of 5 adults who are flying into Salta for a week's stay. We'd like to rent a car big enough for 5 or a minivan (gulp). Has anyone found a local car rental company in the Salta area that they would recommend? What can we expect to pay? We like to do business with local agencies, but the car needs to be reliable.

This is not a question but info: the Train to the clouds has stop today the trips because of heavy problems with the train maintenance. The Government of Salta is thinking even in taken the permit for operation out of the Company hands.
It is the 2ndo heavy problem in a few months.

Any advice on hotels in Salta? I am figuring somewhere around the square. Recommendations?
How about bus lines... We are trying to take the bus from BSAS to Salta the morning we land in BSAS. Andesmar has a split-up route, and doesn't start to leave until 10 at night. We arrive in BSAS at 6 in the morning. Advice? Are there other bus lines with websites?

Ride the Train Posted: Tue November 16, 2004 02:32 AM UTC
I will be in Salta during February, 2005, when the passenger train isn't running. How does one ride the Freight train? Can we disembark in Chile? How does one arrange to take the partial ride "Train to the Sun"? Is this the same route?

How easy is it to cross from Chile to Salta? Posted: Fri August 15, 2003 10:04 AM UTC
I'm going travelling through Latin America next month for 6 months and will be arriving in Arica or Iquique, Chile, at the end of January. I then want to cross to Salta in Argentina before heading down to BA and then Back across to Mendoza to cross back to Santiago. I can't seem to find much information about how easy or difficult the crossing from Calama-Salta is. Has anybody done this and could you let me know about the frequency of buses etc across the border? Any other tips for the route i've mentioned would be much appreciated too. Thanks.
