Hi Travelers ~
We will have two days between cruises in early November, one of which ends in Civitavecchia & the other begins there. We have previously been in Rome, Naples & Florence. We were thinking of just staying in Civitavecchia & taking a couple of day trips.
We thought we might do Tarquinia one day & Ostia Antica the other. Is this a good plan? Are one or either worth seeing? Is this over ambitious? Is there a good hotel & good places to eat in Civitavecchia?
Does anyone have a better suggestion?

Just posted previous share ride question. After reading about delays at FCO decided to change pickup time to 10am instead of 9am. Could even delay a little longer to accomodate passengers to share cost of shuttle.

Looking for cruise passengers to share cost of shuttle from Fiumicino Airport (Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport - Rome) to Port Civitavecchia. Will be leaving from the Fiumicino Airport around 9 am on July 26, 2008. On our return to the port on August 5, we are also looking for cruise passengers to share cost of shuttle from port back to rome.

We are arriving at FCO on the evening of October 17, 2008 and will be spending three nights at a hotel in Civitavecchia prior to boarding the Regatta on October 20th. We are loking for the most reasonable and convenient way to reach Civitavecchia via train, taxi, bus or hired car.

My wife and I are looking to share a full-day Rome excursion after we disembark from our cruise at Civitavecchia on October 4, 2004. If interested, please respond to gbecker511@aol.com.

Do we have to go from the train station at Civitavecchia to Termini and then catch a train back to Ostia Antica or is there a stop sooner (on the way to Roma) that we can get off at and then catch a train back to Ostia Antica? Like the Piramide stop? Stazione? Ostiense? Or is there a direct bus or train from Civitavecchia to Ostia Antica?

Also I saw that you can take a boat along the Tiber river from Rome to Ostia Antica. Has anyone experienced that good or bad, cost, and the location to catch the boat relative to Termini or another stop?

I know I can spend mucho EURO for a taxi or shuttle but trying to keep it inexpensive.

All the questions in this forum seem to be about how to get to Rome and back in a day. Well, I've decided to buck the trend...

I've been to Rome before, and I'm not willing to spend the best part of the day on a bus or a train getting to and from the city, especially in the August heat. So, what else can I do with my day?

Is there anything to keep me in Civitavecchia all day, or is it better to try and make a trip somewhere? Tarquinia looks like a likely place to head to, as it isn't far away, but I'm not sure about transport. Is there anywhere else I could consider? Somwhere easily reached by public transport?

Any suggestions welcome ;@P

Is anyone interested in sharing transport from the Giulio Cesare Hotel in Rome to the Port of Civitavecchia to board the cruise ship Carnival Freedom on October 1st. We expect to leave from hotel at around 1:00-1:30 PM ?

We are two Aussies in our 60s arriving on the Royal Princess, Civitavecchia on 9th August 2008. Looking for people to share transport to Fiumicino Airport.

For Costa travellers looking for transportation from Rome FCO to the port (and back).

Please be aware that even though you may not be able to purchase transfers through travel agent or Costa on "last minute" bookings, you "should" be able to buy a transfer at the airport directly from the Costa representative. For return bookings the Shore Excursion Desk on ship sells the transfers as excursions. Hopefully this will be helpful information for anyone contemplating the cost of a taxi.

I am going on a cruise on June 6 that includes the port of Civatevecchia. Is there anything to do there or is it better to just take the 1 hour ride to Rome? I have already been to Rome 2yrs. ago and saw The Colloseum, Vatican ,the catacombs etc. If we should have to go to Rome what is the best way to get there. Any info would be great!

Looking to find people to share shuttle cost. Wife and I are arriving Rome FCO Airport May 11 around 10am and flying out early afternoon May 18 via Zoom out of Toronto. Sailing on Costa Concordia. Anyone interested? We have a short time to figure out where and how to meet and form a small group. If we can get numbers we might be able to book a prearranged pickup at a fixed rate.

We are disembarking Costa's Concordia about 8:00am on May 18th and need to get to FCO for a 12:05 flight to Boston. Is anyone interested in sharing the transfer?

Looking for people to share private transfer on Nov. 23 (will disembark from Costa Concordia at 8:00 a.m.) from Civitavecchia to Rome airport (flight leaves at 12:30 p.m.)

My wife and I are arriving in Civitavecchia to disembark from a cruise. We have spent time in Rome before but never Florence or Pisa. Our challenge is that we need to fly out of Fiumicino and not Pisa due to our airlines connections.

We arrive at 6am in Civitavecchia on a Saturday. We would like to go to Pisa and Florence and come back to Fiumicino in time for a flight at 1:30pm on Sunday.

With bags, we could rent a car one-way and do it all driving, returning the car in Fiumicino. Otherwise I thought about leaving our bags at a hotel nearby, making the rounds, then coming back to stay at that hotel that night. It's a lot of transportation time, but we don't know when we'll be back in Italy. Any thoughts or input on this plan? Thanks.

I am disembarking from a Carnival Freedom cruise on Tue 2 June 08. There has been mention of the simplicity of taking the train from the port to the Termini instead of booking a private transfer. Can anyone tell me how two of us with heavy bags get from our ship to the train station? If we needed a taxi to the train, might it then be better to organise some fellow cruisers for a shuttle transfer straight to Rome? Thanks for any replies.

We (two people) are travelling on a Carnival cruise departing Civitavecchia 22 Sep and will require to connect from Rome and hopefully will find out about a bus to join the cruise through Carnival cruises.

My main concern is at the end of the cruise on 5th Oct 2008 when we want to travel to Perugia by train via Rome. Does anyone know where I can find out the connections available? I think the ship arrives Civitavecchia at 7.30am.

Hello. We party of 4 are looking to see if anyone out there is traveling from Rome FCO airport to civitavecchia on May 11 2008 for a Costa Concordia cruise and would like to share a shuttle . We will arrive at Rome FCO airport around 8: 00 am and do not want to wait 5 hours there for a shuttle offfered by Costa leaving at 1: 00 pm.

Hello. I am looking to see if anyone out there is traveling from Rome to civitavecchia at the end of June 2008 for a cruise and would like to share a shuttle.

Hi - Canadian couple...looking for 2 people who might be interested in sharing a limo to and from Citavecchia port (Celebrity-Galaxy cruise) on August 1st/2008 and returning on August 11. Trips would be from Rome city center to port and on the return it would be from port to airport (very early morning).

Looking for advise on how to best travel to Citavecchia from Rome on August 1st/2008.

Young couple arriving in Rome FCO on June 7, 2008 at 18:25 and I am looking for another couple to travel from FCO to Civitavecchia with (boarding Holland American cruise on June 8 in Civitavecchia). I would also like to include an afternoon tour of Rome before going to Civitavecchia. Cost is around $600 - $700, but additional passengers make the price much more affordable.
