Lago di Como 9 days in Italy - hope it's not a mad schedule
Posted: Thu April 24, 2008 09:51 PM UTC
Hi,

I am planning a 9 full days trip to Italy early October and need some advices.

1) Can anyone let me know if the following itinerary is too ambitious:

Day 1: Positano
Day 2: Capri
Day 3: Florence
(Train to Florence in the morning)
Day 4: Florence
Day 5: Chianti
(Drive from day 5-9)
Day 6: Siena
(Arrive in Siena night before. Depart after 4pm for Cinque Terre)
Day 7: Cinque Terre
Day 8: Lake Como
Day 9: Lake Como
(Drive to Malpensa airport for 7pm flight)

2) As we do not require a car for Cinque Terre, would anyone advise me to drop off my car at Cinque Terre/La Spezia and use public transports moving onwards or keep the car. Current plan is to keep the car as my time is quite limited and I can appreciate the ease of getting to the airport. Please advise if I am needlessly wasting money.

3) I can't seem to find any affordable and decent accomodation for less than Euro60 in Bellagio. The best I have found for Euro60 is in Como. Does anyone have anything to recommend?

Many thanks in advance!!!

Lago di Como Is a side trip to Lugano worth the time/trouble?
Posted: Tue January 22, 2008 05:46 PM UTC
My Mom said Lugano was wonderful, but not sure if other people think it's worth it, or if it's just a tourist trap (my Mom loves tourist traps!!!). Thanks for your input.

Lago di Como HELP:Where to stay: La Darsena (Tremezzo), Hotel Du lac (Bellagio) or Villa Cipressi (Varenna)?
Posted: Tue January 22, 2008 03:35 PM UTC
We have two little boys--one baby and a 4 year old. We are trying to choose between these 3 hotels. They are all somewhat similiarly priced for a room for us with a view/balcony. We also want to take a sidetrip to Lugano. Thanks!

We will be arriving in Como by train, wishing to get to ferry/hydrofoil dock for lake transport to Bellagio. Is this walking distance? After 3 nights in Bellagio seeking lake transport to Colico. Is it possible to walk to train station from dock area in Colico? 2 adults, 2 teenagers all with backpacks.
Of all the lake transport what would you recommend to suit us?
Many thanks.

Lago di Como Swimming in the lake
Posted: Mon April 23, 2007 12:03 PM UTC
Hi,

There was a similar question before, but hopefuly I will get more specific answer.

My friend likes to swim and I would like to know if there are any beaches near Varenna, Bellagio or Como city - I have red that most of the beaces are in the north part of the lake. We will be coming in May - would be water not too cold to swim?

I was just wondering if it'll be sunny and nice. I'm especially visiting to see the beautiful flowers in the villa gardens...so wanted to make sure that it will be pleasent in the last week of May.

Would appreciate inputs from anyone who has travelled during that time or from the locals :)

Hi
Does anyone know which way is best to get from Bergamo train station to Lezzeno nr Bellagio. My boyfriend and I are staying at the Hotel Aurora in Lezzeno this weekend (our 2nd trip to the lakes in as many months!!). I'm not sure whether to go to Varena via Lecco, then take the ferry across to Bellagio and try to bus it to Lezzeno? or to go to Como on the train and bus from there?? Any help gratefully received!

Lago di Como Sunrise at Lake Como
Posted: Fri July 14, 2006 07:13 AM UTC
Where is the best place to take in the sunrise? I am staying in Bellagio and would like to get up early and enjoy the view.

Also, is it possible to rent a small boat with an outboard motor to explore the lake? Where might I go to do so? And any recommendations on the best hiking area?

Thanks - I've only got about a day and a half so I want to do as much as I can!

Lago di Como where to go?
Posted: Mon July 10, 2006 12:48 PM UTC
Hi,

I'm hoping to stay in the area for a week. I'm looking for somewhere that's not too quiet - ie has a few bars/restaurants as well as a nightclub perhaps. I don't drive. I'm also thinking of camping as I'm quite poor.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
thanks

Lago di Como Ferry Menaggio-Varenna
Posted: Sat June 17, 2006 01:01 PM UTC
I am travelling through Menaggio on Sunday 23 July. Do you have to book the ferry for car and passengers. If it is not possible to pre-book the ferry are there large queues or lines of cars for each ferry during the peak summer travel days.

Lago di Como Hiking & Golf near Varenna
Posted: Fri May 26, 2006 03:34 AM UTC
A large group of us are staying at Villa Angelina up the hill from Varenna in Vezio later this year...any inside scoop on this place?

Anyway, looking for some good hiking and golf course options...understanding both outings will probably be best served on the west side of the lake.

Appreciate any feedback!

We all love scenery, but wouldn't love to stay in a deserted quiet place in the eve. can you please suggest where is the best to stay in the lake to have a combination of restaurants, bars and cafetterias in the eve, but which is accessible for day trips to other places? Also, would appreciate it if you indicate names of hotels. 10x

Lago di Como Varenna to/from Milan
Posted: Sun November 20, 2005 07:28 PM UTC
Hello,
I am planning to be in Varenna for three days next September. We will be coming into Varenna by boat from Como after taking the train from Milan. However, if I'm reading the navigazione.it. site correctly, there isn't a mid-morning boat back to Como. Is this correct? If so, I was thinking of taking the train from Varenna to Milan. Is this a scenic route, and is the train station in Varenna accessible from the main area on foot?

Thanks so much!

Lago di Como Visiting Lecco
Posted: Thu June 23, 2005 05:47 PM UTC
Hi,

We are planning to visit Lecco in early August as part of our Milan-Venice trip. We have heard Lecco is sort of industrial town with little old part. But we are looking for Alps. Can we have an Alpine vista in Lecco? The place appears tempting since it is just half an hour from Bergamo.

Lago di Como Lake Como in August: Bellagio or Cernobbio?
Posted: Tue June 21, 2005 05:30 PM UTC
Hi All,

We'll be going to Lake Como at the end of August and I have a few questions which have been left unanswered on Frommers & Trip Advisor.

1. What weather should we expect at the end of August?
2. Which town is more scenic: Bellagio or Cernobbio?
3. Anyone stayed in Villa d'Este and/or Villa Serbelloni? And if yes, which one would you recommend and why?

Thanks :-).

Lago di Como Bus service from Malpensa to Varenna?
Posted: Mon May 2, 2005 03:11 PM UTC
I'm planning to arrive at Malpensa in August and then go directly to Varenna. I know get a train via Stazione Centrale in Milan, but I'm going with my mother, so the fewer connections, the better. I have heard that there is a bus that leaves Malpensa and goes to Varenna. Can't find any information about schedules. Anyone know anything that might help me?

It has just been brought to my attention that I may need an YHA card to be able to stay at La Primula (we've already booked it). Can anyone tell me whether I have to have a card, or whether we can just pay a few extra euros a night to stay there? Your help is much appreciated.

Lago di Como Lago di Como in early November
Posted: Wed June 2, 2004 05:05 PM UTC
Would someone please tell me what I can do at Lago di Como in November? Aren't most attractions closed by October? I'd really like to experience the lake district but I'm limited to a November visit. I'm leaning towards Como over M. and G. Should I bother to make a day trip out from Milano (by train)?? Or should I skip the lakes because of bad Autumn weather and lack of open attractions (like gardens and villas)? Your opinions are highly valued. Thanks!
