Hello All,
I am relocating to Fortaleza for a 10-month fellowship that begins in March, 2012. I will be bringing my small dog with me, and I would like to know if anyone can recommend an excellent veterinarian and/or pet sitter in Fortaleza. My apartment will be near Iracema.
Any other helpful information you could offer about having a dog in Foraleza would be especially appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I am currently living in Fortaleza, and am thinking of looking for a community outside Fortaleza to live, a place where close enough that I could drive to the city several times per week for work.
I heard there are beach communities, nice areas where I could purchase a home, and be close to the beach, but it is not too far from the city. Can anyone recommend any areas?

Is it safe to start a business in Fortaleza or surroundings ( Recife, Natal, Joao Pessoa )
Some people say it's safe, but a lot of people here in Europe say it's very risky and dangerous.
I would like to live in Brazil North East but i want to be sure.
Thanks in advance,
Bart

Hello all. My Brazilian girlfriend and I are in Fortaleza for a one week vacation. We decided we love it and are going to look for an apartment and make the move. We'd like something furnished as a starter apartment, in an area of the city close to shopping, restaurants etc. Not too expensive, mid range probably is where we're at for now.
Any suggestions on agents, or websites, to help us with our search?

Hello all. I would like to study Portuguese in Fortaleza at a school that provides the document for a student visa. This is a document that I would then submit to the Brazilian consulate in Canada to apply for the student visa.
It can be a university or language school. For example there is a course in Sao Paulo at Mackenzie University which is cheap and only two classes per week, which is perfect, and they provide the document for getting a student visa. I am wondering if there is something similar in Fortaleza.

I have posted a question before in this forum about moving to Fortaleza and asking for some advices around how difficult it is to get a job in Fortaleza, Brazil. But it seems to be deleted and I can not access it anymore and I am not quite sure why. I do not think I have used any offensive languages on my question before, I have read the guidelines and I do not think I have breach any of those points. Please help :)

I'm planning to move to the Fortaleza area to establish some business ventures and marry my Brazilian fiancée. But as a backup plan, I'd like to teach English privately. I would like to find a private school in need of a literate, native English speaker. My fiancée and I have even been talking about starting an English school (she is an English teacher, too).
I test better than the 99th percentile in competency, and have experience tutoring English to speakers of many languages. I'm doing well at learning Portuguese and became quite popular on livemocha.com for my detailed explanation of English difficulties - in Portuguese. Although I've not obtained an ESL certification, I would certainly do so if really necessary.
Any advice on where to look?
Thank you so much!
Joe

This will be my first time in Fortaleza. I have a few friends living in Brazil, but none in Fortaleza. I'll be looking at real estate primarially, but I plan to get out and about to some of the clubs while I'm there. If anyone, especially folks with local knowledge, wants to meet up for a drink, I'd be all over it.
On an unrelated note, are there any dive (scuba) operators in Fortaleza who allow spearfishing on their charters? Kind of obscure question, I know.

I’m visiting this great city in June 08 (less than three weeks away), can you someone please shed some light in all the happenings in the city especially the nightlife. I am also hoping to get some well earned rest, can one suggest a nice place within the city where one can relax without experiencing any hassles.
My stay is 10 days and I am hoping not to experience any dull moment.
Many thanks

I am a Norwegian guy travelling alone to Fortaleza this march. Are there any of you Virtual Tourist members that will be in Fortaleza during march? I would be lovely to meet up with some of you who actuelly live in this brilliant part of Brazil that I have been reading about for weeks and weeks.
I work as a management consultant in Norway and have a very hectic everyday life. I very much look forward to visiting Brasil, recharding my batteries, getting some sun on my back, and basically having a great time!
Regards from Norway.

I'm thinking of visiting fortalezza for a week. I'm having trouble finding reviews on hostels in the area. I don't really know hostels that well, I've only rented apartments. But I think a week is too short for that.
It sounds like a good plan would be to stay at a hotel the first day, probably in Meireless and look for hostels around there the first day. Does anyone know what the going rate is for hostels there? Is it possible to get a private room that I can lock my stuff in (I have a laptop)? I don't know how secure hostels usually are...

Hey everyone! I'm going to Fortaleza this May for about 3 weeks. I'm actualy planning to move here in the very near future. This is my third time in Fortaleza in only 6 months! My love is kitesurfing, so it's not surpising that Fortaleza is my choice of future residence, however since May is the "off" season for kitesurfing and all my surfing buddies are away to work I am travelling alone this time.
If there is anyone traveling alone who wants to get together give me a shout! Or if you feel like hanging out with a party animal from Norway! :o)
My Portuguese is improving and I get by, but my goal is to learn this demanding language perfectly before moving.
Hope to meet some samba lovers down there!!

Hi,
Two years ago I bought a wonderful house at Porto Das Dunas, just outside Fortaleza and 500 metres from The Beach Park and wonderful beaches. We usually rent out the house, but in July we'll be there with children and grand-children. If you have ideas about beautiful places we ought to visit, food we should try etc., please, tell me.
I would also like to meet Brazilian people from the area who speaks English.
Best regards,
Solfrid from NOrway

Prostitution is a big and serious thing in Fortaleza. And many of the clients are men from abroad. I am sure not all of you come here for that particular reason, so I was wondering, do you feel like you have that image attached to you when you arrive in Fortaleza, that you might only be here for that?!

Sorry for my english, but I'm italian.
I would like to know if there are the possibilities to work in Fortaleza, because I know that the salary is not too much for live.
I'm an account contabile and commercial, but I could teach italian.
Please if there are some people that just work in Fortaleza, please write me if it's possible to live with this salary.
Thank you in advance

Hi folks, myself and my good lady are contemplating buying a small place in Cumbuco later on this year and we were very interested to find Mike and Vanessa's input together with the replies from those in the know. We would be grateful for any help and advice we could get. I am a keen surfer and am now learning kiteboarding which is how I got to hear about Cumbuco, I also like golf so my first question is whether or not the Golf Course is under construction? I spoke to a guy called Dick Dawson the other day who runs Dream Properties selling a development in Cumbuco, he lives not far from you Mike and Vanessa on the Isle of Wight. He was telling me that there is a lot of talk about the course being built but no action as yet and that this is typical of many other promises of expansion up this coast by way of golf courses, so it would be great to know if the course is actually being built now! Next up was really just to say that I would grateful for any info on real estate, growth predictions, possible rental yields for a two bed apartment, eating out prices, beer prices (very important), in fact anything. Our e mail is kenandlucy@talktalk.net, look forward to hearing from you and good luck Mike and Vanessa with your venture. Ken
