Hi, does any1 know if its possible to get a visa for Nepal whilst in Darjeeling & if its straightforward to arrange transport to get to Nepal..

I am coming to Kolkata towards the end of November and I´m very excited to finally get to this great city. I will be there for a week or so and wanted to know if there is any particular hostel/hotel that is good for lone travellers for meeting people etc?

While I am there I am hoping to do some yoga.. I haven´t really ever done any so i´d like to do an introductory course does anyone know any good places in the city?

I will also be there to sample to beautiful food on offer... the most i possibly can.. mostly the street food I am really interested in.. can anyone recommend any particular places I could go? yum yum!

Also.. from Delhi is it best to book the train in advance (on say the 24th NOvember?) Or should i just rock up at the train station ? (which Delhi train station?)

any other must dos in Kolkata while I am there?

Please give me some suggestions to spend a day in Kolkata.I will be in arriving at Kolkata on Sept 12th (Dum Dum airport)at 10 AM.and have darjeeling mail from sealdah at 10 PM.

Please help me in organising my itinenary for this 12 hrs time in Kolkata .I am alone and cannot speak Hindi.
It would be very helpful if you give some best tips so taht I can cover Kalighat temple

Hello all,
we'll be visiting Darjeeling soon and have shortlisted the Dekeling Resort at Hawk's Nest. But we've found out that the taxi will take us to the base road only and then there's a steep uphill climb to get to the hotel! this makes us a little apprehensive especially with luggage and all.
Can someone throw some light on this or post a photograph?
This would be great help.

I'm thinking about travelling to Darjiling to view the total solar eclipse on the 22nd July, but have realised that this is at the start of the monsoon season. What's the general pattern of weather at this time of year? The eclipse is due to be happening early in the morning, I believe - from around 5.30am to 7.30am.

We are planing our vacations between 22nd May09 to 31st May09 at Darjiling-Gangtok-Shillong etc..
How should plan these days in these places?
We have temp like folloing:
Day 1. On 21st fly to Kolkata from Mumbai and stay kolkata.
Day 2. Kolkata Site seeing and leave at night to New Jaipaigudi using Darjiling Mail.
Day 3. Leave New Jaipaigudi in the morning towards Darjiling. We will reach there in the evening.
Day 4. Darjiling Site seeing
Day 5. Leave Darjiling in the morning to Gangtok
Day 6. Gangtok Siteseeing
Day 7. Leave for Nathalla Pass, Chamku lake, Baba Mandir and return to Gangtok
Day 8. Leave Gangtok to New Jaipaigudi via Siliguri (Visit China Market) Leave NJP in the Night to Guwahati.
Day 9. We will reach Guwahati at 6 AM. Local Siteseeing
Day 10. Guwahati -- Shillong -- Cherapunji Return to Guwahati
Day 11. Buffer Day
Day 12. Leave Guwahati to Mumbai.

Note. Here we have planned Flight Jorney from Mumbai to Kolkata and Guwahati to Mumbai. However it will be over our budget. So we will cancel one flight jorney and will go by train.

I have following querries:
1. How should we plan here? I think this may be little Hectic. As we have not planned for rest days
2. If we cancel Guwahati How can we those extra days ?
3. Which is preferable Darjiling or Kalimpong?
4. PLease let me know any sacred places as I am very much interested in visiting old Temples.

We are thinking of going to Darjeeling after a trip to Bhutan. I'm wondering how long a drive from Paro or Phuntsholing Bhutan to Darjeeling?
Also, looking at nicer hotels, it seems the 2 best are the Mayfair and the Windamere. Is one better than the other or are they similar in standards, etc.

I will be arriving at the airport (Dumdum) at about 8 am and need to go to Camac street. How much does a taxi cost and options.

Also later in the evening, I need to go to Behala. What are the options..Taxi (cost), Metro (till which station) plus taxi..

Plus what rae the expected journey time.

Also I will be having a small rucksack (clothes etc.) and a laptop. Will these be alloowed on the metro.

Is the MBD Hotel operational? In January 2008 it looked empty and in disrepair.

One of my friends advised me about heera intern. hotel, he told me that i can get a good single room with A/C for 700 Rs a night including taxes,what do u think, is there any other places for the same but better service or same service but less rate?

I am new to this city and i am regular jogger. i am staying in near dum dum metro and have been trying to find a place to jog. There are too many stray dogs in the street and i dont find poeple early in the morning around this place. Can somebody suggest me a place to jog in kolkata. Please specify the metro station i should get down as well.
