Hotel close to Kolkata Airport Posted: Tue July 22, 2008 08:04 PM UTC
Hi all. I shall be arriving at Kolkata Airport around midnight and would like to spend the night at a hotel located close to the airport.
Is the MBD Hotel operational? In January 2008 it looked empty and in disrepair.
Do you know the Ashok Hotel?
Can you recommend any decent hotel located close to Kolkata Airport.
Many thanks for your assistance.

Yoga ashrams near Kolkata, volunteer opportunities including yoga Posted: Mon January 7, 2008 11:20 AM UTC
I will be in Kolkata for training in February. During March, I would like to spend one to two weeks at an ashram combined with volunteer work. Does anyone know of any around or outside Kolkata? I have been practising yoga from a very young age, and I am only aware of most ashrams in other states in India. I am not very familiar with Kolkata or West Bengal. I would appreciate any programs or ashrams you could recommend where you can volunteer in exchange for staying and practising yoga. Or, another option would be an ashram where it is budget. I am not look for spa or very expensive or luxury place. Simple is more ideal for me.

Nigtclubs in Kolkata Posted: Thu January 3, 2008 11:45 AM UTC
Hello There,
I will be visiting Kolkata for a leisure trip in mid Jan. I am from Bangladesh, last time when I visited Kolkata I wanted to enter Tantra an Unerground but I was denied entry as they said those places are only for couples. I wanted to pay the entry fee if there is any but was declined entry. But I have seen other guys entering those places, probably they are regulars there and well - known to the bouncers and manager. Can you guys suggest any nightclub in Kolkata where individuals are also allowed to enter? I know one common suggestion is to get a girl, but difficult to manage one in two / three days, any suggestion guys?

Budget hotel in Darjeeling Posted: Mon December 10, 2007 10:30 PM UTC
Hi, I'm planning a trip to Darjeeling in November, 2008 and need help in finding a budget/cheap hotel. I would also like to know what buses are from Siliguri to Darjeeling. The reason for my trip is an experience from when I was 16 years old. It was my first trip to Darjeeling and I got off the bus half way from Siliguri to Darjeeling. Almost all the people got off the bus and I followed them. They walked down a path and I could see eventually that they stopped in front of a small statue and prayed. I too prayed and got all my wishes. I would now like to find that statue again and pray once more. Is there anybody who could give me some information about the location of statues along the way from Siliguri to Darjeeling?

Anyone to help in getting Rail Ticket Posted: Wed October 31, 2007 05:55 AM UTC
Dear Friend,
I'll arrive Kolkata on 6th December and want to leave for Agra on the same day. But I've heard that it is quite difficult to get rail ticket on same date on December.
I've tried to book ticket online, but as I don't have any Indian Bank Account and Indian Address, I couldn't book ticket.
Can anyone suggest me how to book a rail ticket from abroad? Is there anyone/travel agency who can book rail ticket for me?

Burma into India Posted: Tue September 25, 2007 08:07 PM UTC
I understand that air flight from Yangon [Rangoon] to India is expensive. I will be arriving from backpacking tours of China; Vietnam; Thailand and Myanmar in mid November. Is there a more inexpensive way to arrive in India, such as by sea ~ a ship from Yangon to say Kolkata? I understand that land routes are also closed.

How easy is it (does any-one know) to get a train from Calcutta - Mumbia - Goa, and then back again. I have looked on the net and it looks quite difficult to board a train in India without having made reservations quite a long time in advance.

Somewhere to live with the kids Posted: Fri April 13, 2007 08:05 AM UTC
We are intending to come and stay in northern India for about 9 months from September 07 onwards. We have 2 small children aged 3 and 1. We are looking for suggestions as to where might be a good place to stay for this period. We would like somewhere that is not very touristy but is not completley off the beaten track either. Trips to other interesting places that aren't days and days away would also be a good idea and if at all possible a place with lots of children and things for them to do.
Any suggestions welcome?
