| Manaus | Need a tour guide for two days for 8 people...help please Posted: Mon July 21, 2008 01:32 PM UTC
Hi,
We are overnighting on a cruise ship in a few months and the only guide that writes me back is apparently not reputable..Amazon Exploreres email me one day and then a week goes by and I hear nothing... We just want a simple one day trip up to meeting of the waters, the dolphins, and the eco park and to do the market and city the next day....Any reputable folks who will do a PRIVATE tour picking us up at the docks and doing the 8 hour version one day and athree or four hour version the next who is not too pricey and speaks english???? |

| Manaus | URGENT-URGENT Posted: Mon July 14, 2008 10:41 PM UTC
Hi,
I have a friend travelling South America at the moment. Couple of days ago he had been robbed in Venezuela and changed his plans to go to La Paz. He is in the bus right now, going to Manaus from Venezuela. The thing I want to ask is what is the best&CHEAPEST way for him to go to La Paz from Manaus? Regarding is limited budget at the moment is is a better idea to go through Rio Branco or Porto Velha for Bolivia? Or I've heard when I was in BR that there are commercial river ships sailing through Amazon river. And they sometime letting backpackers travelling with them for a small amount of money. Is that true? And if it is; what is the way to find these ships? Do they go to Bolivia or somewhere close to there? Or what are the bus ticket prices for bolivia from manaus? Any idea? He is pretty stucked now n needs help. Any answer & idea is appreciated. Thank you in advance... |

Hi,
I am currenlty beginning to plan my trip to South America and one of my big high lights is to go to see the rainforest in the amazon basin. So far I have come across two main places to do several day trip in - Iquitos, Peru and Manaus, Brazil. Could someone please advise me if there are any difference in what you get to see and do there? And what are the best ways to get there? Or are there other places as well? Thanks a million. Ulli |

| Manaus | Getting from Bolivia to Manaus Posted: Mon March 10, 2008 05:19 PM UTC
Hey there,
I´m currently in La Paz (Bolivia) but am planning to get across to Manaus next week to do a jungle trip. I´ve heard bits and pieces about being able to fly to Manaus from Santa Cruz (Bolivia). Flying is first choice of transport, can anyone give details of airlines that go from Bolivia to Manaus - would be very grateful. Many thanks Alan. |

| Manaus | Manaus to Caracas OR Caracas to Manaus Posted: Sat February 23, 2008 06:05 PM UTC
Looking for someone that has done the journey between Caracas and Manaus by bus. We prefer going by bus that plane as to see places on the way.
If you have done this journey could you please give me advice on bus lines you took, or places you stopped on the way to break up the journey. Trying to avoid 23 hours straight on the bus and it would be nice to stop in the Gran Sabana or Ciudad Bolivar or Delta Orinoco on the way. Thanks |

| Manaus | Now thats a plan Posted: Tue January 29, 2008 01:23 PM UTC
Ola,
At last my dream trip to the Amazon is looking like a plan. Got tickets from UK to Sao Paulo, then Sao (gru) to Manaus.Booked in the Mango guest house for a week.Leaving enough time to orginize a trip up the Rio Nigro and then onto Rio Branco all the way to Boa vista. From there would like to get some more information : Can I go to either Venezuela or Guyana on the river? As we are basing our travel for a two year gap ( from work not school) and we have UK pport holders can only stay for 90 days in Brazil, and maybe get an extension... but either way would need to leave Brazil for a bit. Currently we have one way plane tickets only ( uk - Sao paulo, SP - Mao) and would like to leave Brazil by boat, if this is possible! Four weeks to go ! Any advice will be usefull :) Muito Obrigado Thanks Wil |

Not very fast neither ( slower the better ) about 15 hp. Milk boat style :) Does any one have some more information on this? IE ) if a license is required, can a international driving license do? All information on this topic, will be welcomed :) Thanks |

| Manaus | Challenginf jungle trek in Brazil Posted: Wed October 17, 2007 11:49 AM UTC
Hi, me and two friends are in Brazil for the carnival in February. After that we are looking for a challenging jungle trek that takes us out of our comfort zone. We want to be camping/sleeping in hammocks, not staying in lodge cabins! We want something between 7-10days so that we can penetrate the rainforest and see as much wildlife as possible. We are young, fit and healthy and want to get a real taste of a jungle experience. However, i want to feel safe in the hands of my guide and trust that he will be able to bring us home safely at the end of the journey. Any suggestions??

| Manaus | Hotel near Airport Posted: Wed February 28, 2007 01:49 AM UTC
Hi,
I was wondering if you could advise me on where to stay if you arrive at airport around midnight and have until 8am to wait for the Ariau Tower ferry? Should we stay at hotel near airport for 6 hours? Or should we stay at Hotel Tropical where the ferry boat takes off? We are looking for affordable hotel to sleep for a few hours. I can't find a good map that shows hotels around airport. Also, I heard it is easy to find a taxi at anytime at the airport. Is that true? Thanks. |

| Manaus | Manaus weather tolerable? Posted: Sat February 17, 2007 02:16 AM UTC
I'm thinking of spending some time in Manaus this summer (May, June and maybe August too). The bjj training in this city is supposed to be amazing.
My main concern is the weather. From what I have read Manaus is supposed to be very hot and humid. I was in Rio last summer and I had no problem but Manaus might be different. |

| Manaus | Volunteer work in Manaus? Posted: Tue December 19, 2006 07:30 PM UTC
Hello!
I am looking for volunteer work in Manaus. I am interested in working with non-profit organizations that are based on social change ideals. I would like to work with HIV/AIDS education, gardening, murals/art, English education, children, homeless individuals etc. I have a lot of experience in social justice type work. Does anyone know any organizations like this? Do you have any contact info for people in Manaus that could help me out? ( I am also interested in working for Amazon tour companys) I am a native English speaker and am learning Portuguese. If you have any ideas or information, please let me know! Thanks! Lillian |

| Manaus | Ayahuasca and guide Posted: Tue November 7, 2006 02:18 AM UTC
Im travelling through South America next year and high on my priorties list is a extensive tour of the rainforest. One of the higher priorites in touring the rainforest is to find a indigenous Indian tribe who offer Ayahuasca ceremonies as part of your visit. Its definately not your usual tourist request but if anyone has had this experience or know of where to go and who to speak to in order to enjoy this experience it would be much appreciated to know.
Also I intend to have as personal as possible experience of the rainforest. So I want to avoid tour groups and just find a personal guide who may offer a tour into a more remote part of the rain forest. If anyone can give me some advice on where to look at finding such a guide that would be also appreciated. Price isnt the issue as it has no preference over a truly personal spiritual experience. Cheers |
