Have already purchased plane tickets for 17 day trip, now starting to worry that fog will prevent us from driving (with a car service & driver) and seeing the sights and the Taj Mahal! Is the fog a daily, daylong problem?
I have been told bya friend that it is a waste of time going to Corbett National Park as it is very touristy - does anyone have any other opinions? I was due to visit in December.
2) Agra : Howard Park: http://www.parkplaza.com/agrain/
3) Jaipur : Thaltara http://www.thaltara.com/
Please let me know if these are good places and would suit a single girl. I've tried a couple of homestays with a hotel in between to take a break in Agra. I'm really interested in being with an Indian Family. The choice was also because of my pet dog I'll be taking along (These locations allow pets).
I've contacted them and they seem to be friendly and have good reviews on tripadvisor too. Also, how much deposit is required to block your room in India?
Hello guys,
Well, I may be comming to New Delhi for probably a week and just want to know about the expenses. These are the questions:
1- How much would a good and respectable hotel would cost including meals per day.
2- How traveling around is being done. I intend to use taxi, are they metered, if yes then how much is a journy going to cost for every kilometer of Travel?.
3- What are the tourist attractions of New Delhi?
4- Being a foreigner, am I allowed to open an account in the local banks and which are the best to choose from.
Thanks for the replies and I would come back to this excellent forum if I come up with more questions.
For now you all take care and be safe :-)

I am interested in making progress learning Hindi. Can anyone recommend a Hindi languag school in Delhi which caters for foreigners, i.e. classmates from all over the world, helps with accommodation and perhaps organizes trips over the weekend etc? I would be interested in going for about one month. Tried searching the web but found only one school in Delhi and am convinced that there must be somer more?
I am soon travelling to India with a group of people to trek in Dharamsala, but then I am staying for a couple of day on my own, as I wanted to see more attractions. I got a quote through www.indiatraveltours.com, and it all looks good, but I haven't found any customer feedback. Anybody heard of them or had any experience with them? Cheers!
I have a few mixed questions...
1. how bad is the pollution?
2. how much is cable and cell phone monthly?
3. As for cable..are there any channels that we get in the states?
4. Cell phone would be to call local and if possible international-or is that very expensive? I am not sure what the best way is to communicate (cell phone, landline, skype) with folks back in the states once we move there? I was thinking vonage may be best?
Can anyone please tell me how far the Velvet Apple Hotel in New Delhi is from the centre of New Delhi (Connaught Place) and what is the best way to get to the city centre - bus/taxi/train or rikshaw? I cannot figure out from the map what the distance is from this hotel. Also, how far is the hotel from Old Delhi? I will appreciate feedback very much!!
Thank you for info about low-cost airlines.
I found Spicejet offer for about 200USD for 2 return tickets! (Delhi-Goa-Delhi).
Sounds very good.
Today I should get my visa, immediatelly after that I will buy tickets.
The only thing I am interested in is:
"How often it happens that Spicejet postpone or cancel its flights"
I don't want to miss my international flight on the way back :)
Should I fly back to Delhi 2 days before my international flight?

We will be in Delhi this November, 2009. In my shopping lists is to bring back home few small bags of Henna for my hair. I don't want the Henna that has a strong pungent smell, I just want a regular wine colour which give a pretty shinny look. Where would these HENNA be sold? We will be staying in the very center according to one of our travel agency who fixed our tour...Thank You!
Oh! how do you say Thank You in India? Also how do you say Please do not make my dish spicey.

Airport hotel Posted: Wed August 12, 2009 11:24 AM UTC
I guess there is no hotel right at the domestic terminal. Which hotel do you recommend close to domestic terminal? I would prefer one with shuttle bus to save myself touts, thugs, taxi and auto drivers of Incredible India.
Ive just arrived in Delhi and am wandering if anyone knows where its possible to buy a plug adapter for UK plugs and also New Zealand plugs in Delhi? & whether its possible to get mobile broadband via a laptop and expresscard??
I will be staying in Karol Bargh, , BB palace hotel, near the metro station.
Now I need some suggestions for shopping, eating and some little sight seeing. Its been my 4th trip to Delhi, so I have seen all the important
markets/sightseeing places, still wanted to see something different, Delhi is such a beautiful city..
I would like to get recommendations for cloth shopping (only Malls, under one roof), not soo expensive or too cheap, a decent ones. I was in CP circle last time, but I was almost lost in places, didn’t enjoy much shopping, so is there any specific locations there for shopping?
Some good hotels/restaurants (budget) near my hotel?
Also I would like to know whether there is any amusement parks, some real good ones. ?
Suggest one good discothèque near Karol Barg/CP (close to my hotel).
We will be in Delhi for 4 nights, but we don’t want to repeat our mistake from the last time, which was the time we spent in travelling. So please suggest places which are close to our locality.
I am travelling to Delhi in August (5th) and will be there for approx two weeks. Please bear in mind I know nothing about Delhi whatsoever so all advice is really helpful and much appreciated!
Accomodation - I'm hoping to stay at a £20-£40 a night place? Location and safety are most important so can anyone recommend places please?
Health - I've had jabs that ths NHS recommend but is it worth getting a Cholera vaccination for £40 (a friend said this also helps against food-poisoning?)
Sights - if you could list the top three places to see (does'nt necessarily have to be the most touristy!!) then what would they be?
Travel - thinking about getting the 22hour train to Mumbai (for the train experience and also to see Mumbai for two days) and then flying back. Any advice for travelling on this train? British home office warn that tourists get drugged and mugged?!
Money - any advice on how to not get ripped off by the locals?? I'm only basing this on a few friends from Pakistan who have warned people will try and con me left right and center because im western. Also, how much spending money do you think I need for two weeks? I want to buy cloths etc but I dont want to over-spend! (im thinking £500 - that pays for the accom aswell!)
Taj Mahal - apart from Mumbai, this is the only other place I want to visit outside of Delhi - any advice for best days/times to go? How to get there?
Mosquitos - a problem in Delhi in August?
Independance day - I've been advised that it might be dangerous for me to go out on this day (15th) as im British?! I really want to go out and party/celebrate with everyone else, but dont want to get stabbed or mugged!
Going out - sorry for my ignorance, but I've no idea what Delhi/ India's night life is like. Is it bars and clubs? Or would it be frowned upon to be out drinking at night?
Scooter - Delhi's traffic is really busy apparently? Would it be a good idea (fun) to hire a scooter and see the city like that for a day? Or too dangerous?
Via Bahrain - sorry this is really odd! My flights are going via Bahrain and im stopped for 5 hours. Does anyone happen to know if I can venture out of the airport and if thats worth seeing - feel free to ignore this last question sorry as I realise its completly unrelated!
Thanks SO much for any help or advice anyone can give. I need it! I'll be meeting a friend in Delhi who is travelling around the world so neither of us know anything about it. I am 22 and he is 29 - both guys!
Hi,
There seems to be some serious shoppers on this site so I'm hoping that I can get some advice in finding this particular type of fabric in Delhi.
Ive used a picture of it as my homepage pic, its the top of a dress commonly made in India in the 70's and 80's which is reproduced on a smaller scale now. Its a very thin soft cotton often with a border print. Often with paisley, birds, butterflies etc.
Any markets, shops, wholesalers names etc would be much appreciated. I am looking to buy several hundred metres :)
Thanks so much in advance!
i have quote for india tour, can any body tell me if they have used tour operators called holiday india operating out of delhi there price is very good thanks kaymac
I will be doing the "golden triangle" in October and spend ONE night in Agra. I will be transported from Delhi to Agra in a motor car and this will take about 4 - 5 hours. I'm booked into the Royale Residency, which is supposed to be within walking distance to the Taj Mahal.
Could anyone suggest how I could best spend the few hours I will have in Agra?
Is evening time really the best time to see the Taj Mahal?
Must one buy an entry ticket in order to see the exterior of the monument and take photos?
How far is the Red Fort from here and what is the best way to get there?
Is it true that there are many volunteers around the Taj that will take photos of one - are they reliable and do they use their own cameras? How do they let one have the photos? Can they be trusted with my camera?
