I'm thinking about staying at a hostel in Granado during the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre.

Is too far for me to travel to Porto Alegre everyday, both ways?

I will be arriving in Porto Allegre early friday morning (the 14th of january) at 12:40am. I then want to take a bus from Rodoviaria to Montevideo, Uruguay. I have already found out how to get to the Rodoviaria (Thanks Evelyn!), but when I went to their site I didn't find out how to get a bus down to Montevideo, or how often they go there. Do I need to get a ticket ahead of time? In case I need to stay the night, can anyone tell me how to find a hostel to stay in?

I'm going to teh world Social Forum, so will be in Porto Alegre from January 24th to at least the 31st. Does anyone have ideas of where to stay for cheap? anyone's homes or the youth camp?

I am trying to go from Buenos Aires to Imbituba in Santa Catarina ( florianopolis is a closer airport but unable to get a suitable flight, as I plan to move on to Sao paolo before getting back to BA). I can get a flight from BA to Porto Alegre. I know there are buses leaving for Florianopolis which pass by Imbituba ( the place to watch whales ). Can somone provide information about transportation from airport to the busstation? ( taxis, shuttles or direct buses )

I will arrive to Porto Alegre airport on a Sunday and I need to know how to get to the bus station. My final destination is Uruguaiana. I don't know if I need to take a taxi cab to tget to the bus terminal.
Are there a lot of bus companies? Which one should I take?

I am 30 years old, and love Porto Alegre. I need a job to travel there. Does anyone know of any schools that are willing to hire teachers, so I can have some employment when I get there? Please help, I can not find any.

I am searching for a friend who moved to Porto Alegra about 6 yrs ago with his Brazilian wife. He is originally from Canada, but he and his wife met and married in Germany.
I lost rrack of him about 5 yrs ago. His intent was to live in Brazil permanently. They planed to stay in the Porto Alegre area since that is where his wife is from, and her family owns property there.
Are there phone directories on line or something similar that might list his name and/or telephone number?

My name is Jasmine, I have just left the sunny and beautiful Western Australia - Perth, 2mths ago and have spent my time so far in the South of Brazil, getting to know the culture of this amazing country. I am in Porto Alegre, which I find extremley borings as I dont really have any friends here and dont go out much so if ur in Porto Alegre and want to go out with someone let me know. I plan to stay in the South for another 2mths seeing more of Santa Caterina, and Argentina with some other stops along the way and in the surround. Then from any time in March to April I will take off up to Rio, Bahia and the amazon for another couple of weeks then to the UK. if anyone has any good suggestions of places they think I should see / stay or contacts in any areas or if u will be in any of those places please let me know as I would love to have someone cool to travel with or to meet on my journeys. I am a little afraid to travel by myself as I have not done so before and I am not toooo good with my portuguese :) I was considering going to Bonito also as I heard its very beutiful so if anyone has been there and has feedback that would be great.
