Porto Alegre Apartment
Posted: Thu November 9, 2006 08:51 PM UTC
Hello Everyone,

I am coming to Porto Alegre for 10 days on February 15, 2007 until February 25, 2007, with a group of 6 people, including 2 children. I would like to rent an apartment or find a hotel where we could all stay together.
A 3 bedroom, fully furnished apartment would be ideal. The location is very important too.
If anyone could help me, I would truly appreciate.

Thank you

Porto Alegre Where to club this weekend?
Posted: Tue October 10, 2006 03:30 AM UTC
I arrived in Porto Alegre 3 weeks ago. Though I've met people to take me out to restaurants, churrasceria (awesome food!!!), bars and Irish pubs, or even underground places that play 80's music, I admit that sure, it is a sweet offer... but I would like to try the clubbing scene. Where's the best club for "electronic" music? Is there a rave coming to town anytime soon?

I welcome any recommendations. More bbq's!!!!

Thanks,

Hey all,
i'm interested in finding a reasonably priced but well reputed school to study portuguese in Porto Alegre.

Also, what is the standard rent for a one bedroom apartment in a reasonably safe neighbourhood - i.e. close to Public Transport Links. i plan on living in Port Alegre for no less than 6 months.

is there an expat community in Porto Alegre?

Thanks in advance.

Porto Alegre Suggestions for pousadas near Porto Alegre?
Posted: Fri June 23, 2006 10:42 AM UTC
We are flying in to Porto Alegre in the end of August, and we are staying for a weekend(friday - monday).
We want to stay at a farm-like pousada(fazenda??) near Porto Alegre(we have considered Canela or Gramado, but other suggestions are appreciated)?
Want to experience nature, animals, horsebackriding, hiking, Gaucho-lifestyle..
Any suggestions where to stay?
We will travel the backpacker-way, but with a medium-sized budget. We can afford to stay at a good pousada for a few days.

I forgot to ask what the weather will be like in late December and early January. Also, how long does it take to get to Rio from Porto Alegre? Is there a bus or a train? Is there anything to see on the way? Should we just fly instead?

Porto Alegre Porto Alegre questions
Posted: Thu May 25, 2006 03:06 PM UTC
I am thinking about leading a team of volunteers from Habitat for Humanity to help build homes for poor residents of Ilha Grande dos Marinheiros. My understanding is that Ilha Grande is close to Porto Alegre. Is that correct? How far apart are they?

I know nothing about Porto Alegre, so I need as much information about what the city is like, how easy it is to get around, how safe it is, what kinds of things there are to do, and whether there is anything nearby where we could take day trips (cultural sites, archeological sites, beaches, museums, beautiful nature, etc). Any help you can give me would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Porto Alegre Moving to Porto Alegre
Posted: Sat February 18, 2006 10:40 PM UTC
Good day everyone,
I am new to this forum and just have a couple of questions on moving to Porto Alegre. My girlfriend is from Porto Alegre and I've traveled there now twice. I absolutely love the place and would like to move there permanently. I was wondering if any out there has any advice for someone like me. I am currently finishing my Masters of Accounting in Australia and was thinking of getting a job with a firm like KPMG. I currently hold a Bachelor of Science degree from a Uni in Canada(my home country). I would like to know how easy is it to find a job in Porto Alegre, possibly with an accounting firm or maybe transferring offices with KPMG (if that is possible)or even with a multinational organization. I can speak English, French and German and am in the process of learning Portuguese. Any information regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Christian

Porto Alegre Moving to Porto Alegre for a traineeship from Germany
Posted: Sat November 5, 2005 03:44 PM UTC
Ola!
I might move to Porto Alegre for a traineeship for 5 months. Since I have never been to Brazil before it would be very kind if somebody could help me out with a few answers:

1) I do not know how much I will earn (maybe as a trainee not much) but it might be a good idea to know how much money you might need for living / month. So how much would a decent flat with 1 or 2 furnished rooms in a nice area cost? And how much money would you generally need for living (without massive shopping;))?

2)My Portugese is quite limited so far, even I try to impove it. Do people understand English/ German in Porto Alegre?

3)I am staying from february till the end of june: Which clothes do I have to bring? Is it gonna be as cold as in Germany in wintertime? (I am used to snow...)

4)Are there any beaches around Porto Alegre? How far is it to the sea and is it safe to swim in the lake?

5)Would I need a car in Porto Alegre or can usually I go everywhere using public transport? Do you need a car to go to the sea/ beaches?

6)What is a good way (time/money) to visit the rainforest and Rio de Janeiro? I know there are airpasses (varig) to purchase but unfortunately I would have to book everything in advance which I can not do! So are there other ways and how much would they be?

7)Is there also carnival in Porto Alegre and when is it?

8)Are Brazilians outgoing people who are quick making friends or are they grumpy and introverted as some of us Germans might be;) ?

I am sorry if some of my questions are naive but maybe it is better to ask stupid questions then be completely unprepared. It would be great if you might be able to answer some of my questions since I already look forward going to Brazil!!!!
