In to & out of McLeod Ganj by bus Posted: Wed August 8, 2007 12:56 AM UTC
I shall be paying a brief first time visit to McLeod Ganj in early November, coming from Dalhousie and travelling on to Shimla. I'll be travelling by bus but am finding the timetables on HRTC website none too helpful. Can someone tell me how frequently the Dalhousie-McLeod Ganj and the McLeod Ganj-Shimla buses run, or direct me to a better site? Thanks

Economical Accomodation in Kasauli Posted: Mon August 6, 2007 07:40 AM UTC
Hi Forum,
Our college group 3-4 guys and girls are planning for a trip to kasauli during end of this month, can you help us arrange contact details of hotels along with location and price range. Since we are students we have a very economical budget 2000/- per head. we are planning for 2 night and 3 days. Any good accomodation range 400 - 600 Rs is perfect since it is office season. Also Hotel location should we far from city and in the heart of nature. If hotel has Pick and drop facility from Bus stand it will be perfect.
Have a nice day,
Thanks,

2. How far is manali from chandigarh? How long it will take?
3. Is it better totravel by road or fly with 2 senior citizens?
4. How cold will be manali? Also do one feel altitude problem there?

rent long term in mc leod ganj Posted: Mon July 30, 2007 07:21 PM UTC
Hi,
My partner and I have a book to write and were thinking of mc leod ganj, to combine work with our spiritual search etc...
We would go for the months of september october and november this year. Don't know if this is low or high season there...???
Is it possible to rent a decent room there long term and could anyone give us an idea of prices (room and food per day per person)
We thought of buying a portable solar panel for running the laptop independently from local electricity - I heard uncertain. Now what about security?
thank you

Manali in Jan Posted: Sat July 7, 2007 12:01 AM UTC
Hello,
I'm looking forward to going to Manali in January. I've been a bit worried about the weather situation there, especially as the place I'm staying does not have any hot water. I've heard that the fog is the worst at this time of year too, is that correct?
Also can anyone tell me if February will be any different or warmer than January?
Many thanks for your help.

Trekking Weather July Posted: Sat June 9, 2007 04:10 PM UTC
My daughters are going to Shimla and Manali in July (3 weeks). They will be doing some trekking and camping most nights.
We are trying to work out how warm it is at night because it seems crazy to take a big warm sleeping bag unless it is going to be cold.
My question is therfore :-Is the temperature at night cold because of the altitude or sufficiently warm so that it is unnecessary to wrap up well when sleeping in a tent?

Somewhere to live with the kids Posted: Fri April 13, 2007 08:03 AM UTC
We are intending to come and stay in northern India for about 9 months from September 07 onwards. We have 2 small children aged 3 and 1. We are looking for suggestions as to where might be a good place to stay for this period. We would like somewhere that is not very touristy like Manali but is not completley off the beaten track either. Trips to other interesting places that aren't days and days away would also be a good idea and if at all possible a place with lots of children and things for them to do.
Any suggestions welcome?

Trip to McleodGanj in May beginning Posted: Wed April 4, 2007 11:20 AM UTC
I wish to make a small trip to Mcleodganj in the beginning of the month of May. I have a few questions:
1) Will the weather be pleasant there? Or it'll be ~35 deg?
2) Could any of you please suggest me a place for accomodation.
3) Is it the peak season? If yes, then should I get an advance booking? I am not particularly looking for costly accomodation.
Thanks in Advance,

Anyone booked with Sunshine Himalayan Adventure ? Posted: Thu December 7, 2006 06:32 AM UTC
Hi,
A travel operator called Sunshine Himalayan Adventure specialising in eco-tourism is giving us a good package deal for Himachal. I just wanted to know if anybody has travelled with them or done any of the activities recommended by them? They are offering us interesting activities like Rohtang Pass Skiing / Snowboarding/ Snow tubing, Paragliding at Naggar, rock climbing and rappelling at Gushaini etc. Could you give any feedback? Is the paragliding safe and would you recommend it for my 7 yr old son?
Thanks!

Suggestions for trip to Shoja, Gushaini, Sangla, Kufri and Manali with kids Posted: Thu November 30, 2006 06:07 AM UTC
We are planning to visit Himachal for 14 days with our 2 children (ages 4 n 8), during 1st week of May 2007 and have a few queries regarding our itinerary etc:
1. I would like to visit Kufri and Manali and also thinking of visiting either one or more of Shoja,Gushaini, Thanedaar or Sangla. Looking for scenic and non-touristy places and since I've already been to Shimla, would like to avoid it. I'm a bit reluctant to take too long car travels with the kids with us, hence would prefer to go from one place to another in less than 6 hrs car journey. Could you suggest an itinerary starting from Manali upto Delhi?
2. Since there's probably no snow possibly in May, what would be other sightseeing options/activities in Kufri? Should I drop Kufri completely instead?
3. Similarly for Manali, I think Rohtang and Solang would be inaccessible. So since there's no snow or skiing that my kids can possibly try, is there anything else of interest for them in Manali?
4. I'm thinking of Sangla because of the campsite options by Baikunth Travels and Banjara. Any feedback about these two campsites?
5. Is it too difficult to reach Shoja or Sangla; like are there long winding mountain roads and therefore avoidable with kids on board?
