Looking for Tentura Posted: Wed September 2, 2009 07:25 PM UTC
The last time I was in Europe I brought home a bottle of Cinnamon and Clove flavor liquore (Tentura)and loved it. I have been unable to get it here in the U.S. I will be going to Europe again soon and would love to bring home a few more bottles. Does anyone know if I can buy this in Genoa? Thanks, Irv

Affordable one night accomodation near train station Posted: Tue August 18, 2009 11:50 PM UTC
hello everybody!
i hope you can help me. I'm arriving with my brother in Genoa on the 28/09 next month. We have to catch a train to Savona on the next day as our cruiser is departing from there.
Therefore we need an accomodation for one night. I had a look on the Genoa Travelpage to check out recommodations, but there are quite contradicting.
We hope not to spend more then 90-100Euro for a double room.
Important for us is that it is central in a safe area (we want to go for dinner the evening and heard that Genoa can be quite dodgy/dangerous depending were you are) are that it is close to the train station (haven't found out the name of the station with trains to Savona, if anybody can help out would be great!
Something basic is fine as long it is clean and hopefully not too loud with street noise. Thanks for your help!

Port to Airport Posted: Wed July 29, 2009 09:57 AM UTC
We are arriving on a cruise ship in November and need to get to Sestri airport.
I have made enquiries via the web for prices of taxis and they seem to be very expensive. Is there a shuttle or a bus from the Cruise port to the airport?

Cruise dock to train station Posted: Tue July 21, 2009 03:43 PM UTC
Hello!
I'm getting to Genoa by ship and then taking a train to Vicenza, and I have a couple questions:
1) My friend looked up train times for me, since I can't get to the site on our work network -- what is the difference between GE P.P. and GE P.P. GE BRIG?
2) This may be ridiculous, but do all the ships dock in generally the same place? I'm on a Grandi Navi Veloci vessel.
3) About how much will a taxi from the dock to the train station be? I want to make sure I have enough tucked away so I don't have to look for an ATM as soon as we dock.
Thanks!

Ferry to Portofino Posted: Tue June 2, 2009 02:53 AM UTC
Hi, my boss will be in Genoa this week and wants to take a ferry from Genoa to Portofino on Saturday morning, staying over night and returning to Genoa Sunday afternoon. I am finding it difficult to get information on the web in English. He will be staying close to the ferrys in Genoa but I need to find a company who operates the ferries to Portofino, a timetable to and from to be able to give him this information. If anyone can help I would be grateful.

Safe and picturesque parts of genoa Posted: Mon March 2, 2009 05:38 AM UTC
We are planning to spend 3 weeks in Genoa in June with two children under 4. Can anybody provide suggestions of parts of Genoa that are safe at night - where we can wander around with the kids - places that are also picturesque and if possible near a park where the kids can play. We have heard that Genoa is a fantastic city to explore but some parts can be dangerous especially at night.

Luggage storage around Portofino Posted: Tue January 13, 2009 01:32 AM UTC
Hi, We will be travelling by train from Torino to Genova in May and then proceeding to the Cinque Terre for a couple of days. We were hoping to see Portofino on the way through. Is there anywhere we can drop off our bags for the day (preferably one of the rail stations) so we can do some sightseeing before moving on to the CT? I imagine Genoa would have storage but that may involve some backtracking. I believe we have to pass through S. Margherita station - would that have storage? Many thanks in advance.

I'd like to hear suggestions on how to spend 5 weeks in Northern Italy? Posted: Sat November 29, 2008 09:43 PM UTC
I'd like to hear suggestions on how to spend 5 weeks in Northern Italy?
I'm flying into Milan just before X-mas, and leaving (from Milan again) in late January. I can't do all of Northern Italy, but I'd like to focus on natural places like Como lake, the Dolomites (but I'm not into skiing so I'm not sure how worthwhile this region is in winter). I know the coast of Liguria is warmer, and i like that, so I will see Cinque Terre for sure, but what else in Northwestern/Northern Italy can you recommend?
I like:
-memorable/dramatic scenery, landscape photography. Where to find the best (viewpoints, vistas, city views, natural views, panoramas, skylines, sunsets, etc..)?
-the unique outdoors, hikes/hilltops/lookouts, and amazing, breathtaking views?
-lovely/charming streets, cute villages, hidden nooks/places, and magnificent/attractive architecture?
-authentic/unforgettable "local" travel experiences or
-non-typical, interesting/special experiences (full of original character), and unique only to the local area.
-the best freebies (museums, galleries excluded)
-specialty/unique regional cuisine/gastronomy (or the BEST places to eat (w/ local's prices, food made with love/regional favorites, and not too many tourists eating there)),
-anything else off-the beaten path.
Thanks

2 days in Genoa Posted: Fri September 12, 2008 11:57 PM UTC
We are arriving 14 Dec 08 in Genoa for two nights prior to boarding the MSC Orchestra for the first Transatlantic crossing to Ft Lauderdale FL. We would have a full day on 15 Dec and since we have not been to Genoa before are looking for a half or full-day tour with lunch of what all there is to see. Can anyone recommend a guide or a local sightseeing company that might do this. None of my usual sources seem to do Genoa. Or should we wait til we get to the hotel (Hotel Continental Genoa) and arrange with the concierge. All suggestions very welcome.

Italy v Wales Rugby Union Posted: Sun June 29, 2008 08:07 PM UTC
5 of us brits are intending to watch Italy beat Wales on Saturday 14th March 2009. Unfortunately I have been told the Italian RFU cannot decide between Rome or Genoa as a venue. Can someone please give me an idea as to best location +Hotel between the two cities, so that we can travel either way by Train. We will be flying into Italy so I suspect Pisa would be on the list. But as we will want to be socialising we will need suitable rail links.Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

Things to do?? Posted: Mon June 2, 2008 05:39 PM UTC
Hey hows everyone doing?
Just a real quick one from me to ask, what there is to do and where the bars/pubs/clubs are in Genoa?
My ship will be visiting soon and i would like to organise some sport too. Is there a local rugby or football club that would like to play us when we arrive?
any advise or ideas would be much appreciated
Cheers

Travel from Genoa to Nice Posted: Sun April 13, 2008 05:04 PM UTC
I need to book a ticket from Genova to Nice at the beginning of June. I have to be in Nice for 12.30 md and was hoping to get the 8.55 morning train, but there is nowhere for me to book this ticket. I have looked at both Trenitalia and SNCF sites (RailEurope was not at all helpful and said that there must be engineering works). The train shows on the timetables on the internet but it says that tickets for that particular train cannot be booked on the internet. Is there any other way of getting to Nice for 12.30md, please? Does anyone know a way round the train ticket booking problem (everyday it is showing as not bookable - although it was a couple of months ago!)

6-8 hours in Savona Genoa.... Posted: Thu April 3, 2008 09:42 PM UTC
My husband and I will be cruising the Mediterranean in May and will be stopping for 10 hours 9-5 in Savona Genoa. We would prefer to "freelance" rather than sign up for the cruise ship tours. What would you suggest? What are the "must sees" in Savona Genoa which we could gently visit while spending time strolling and enjoying the city with plenty of time for a non-touristy lunch? Or would we be better to hire a taxi to see some special sights? Oh! And does anyone have recommendations for a lovely lunch? Thanks! Marilyn
