Recife SHSKI
Posted: Fri December 3, 2004 09:49 PM UTC
Hi, I'm a university student going to Recife for an internship teaching English with Students Helping Street Kids International, the Rotary School, and Movimiento Pro-Crianca. I am wondering, what is the local reputation of these organizations? I may have an option to simply travel the country doing independent study projects through my college, but I have to pay a lot to come volunteer for this internship when I could be traveling the whole time.
Any advice? Should I just travel the country or commit to living in Recife for six months, PAYING to WORK for this organization?

Recife bicycling from Recife...
Posted: Thu December 2, 2004 04:25 AM UTC
I am planning a trip with some friends to bicycle in Brazil. We are debating between trekking from Recife to Belem or Recife to Sao Paolo from May-June, figuring that we could bike 250 miles/week.

so here are my perguntas:

1. What are the road conditions along (or near) the coast from Recife to Belem? Recife to Sao Paolo?

2. What weather should we pack for?

3. How possible and safe is camping with tents along the route (we figure we'll bike 50miles/day)?

Any other advice?

Muita obrigada!

Recife Great Places to Live in Recife Area
Posted: Tue November 30, 2004 02:19 PM UTC
I am thinking about moving my business to portal digital in Recife. I was wondering if anyone could suggest good areas to live in that are safe. I was told that Boa Viagem was great, but that the quality of the water at the beach was not good and that there had been some Shark attacks. Are there any other areas I should look at? Also can anyone provide any names of newspapers that I should look at to find short-term apartments for when we first get there?

Thanks

Recife The Sand Equivalent of Snowboarding
Posted: Fri November 19, 2004 08:52 AM UTC
Hi folks, what are your reccomendations as to the best beaches around the Recife area? I'm particularly interested in getting on top of a great big sand dune and sliding all the way down on one of those snowboard things.
Also-what do backpackers usually go for re. accomodation?
Thanks in advance,

Recife Learning Portuguese in Recife
Posted: Sun October 10, 2004 06:13 PM UTC
Hello everyone,

I am planning to come to Recife for the month of January 2005 and intend to spend atleast some of the time there learning Portuguese at a language school. Does anyone have any recommendations for good language courses? I can speak basic Portuguese (I speak French and a bit of Spanish) so I am not a complete beginner!

Is it possible to maybe rent an apartment for the month, say in Boa Viagem, as I guess this will be alot cheaper than a hotel. Where would I find about apartments to rent?

Also, what is the gay scene like there?

Many thanks

Recife Brazil for a month
Posted: Fri September 24, 2004 06:32 AM UTC
Hello, we are going to Brazil for 4 weeks for our honeymoon. It is definite that we will be in Ilha Grande and Rio for the first 10 days, after that it is up in the air.
We like to keep it cheap, but since we only have a month, we want to fly places sometimes. Other than that we want to keep it pretty cheap. We need to fly out of Natal at the end of our trip. Don't ask me why, it just happened.
My question is what trip sounds better and more reasonable. We don't want a incredibly hectic time.
We like nice beaches, but also want to meet some relaxed people and go out every now and then. We are not huge fans of big cities
------------------------
Plan 1
From Rio,
1)Fly to Puerto Seguro and stay inTranscoso for 4-5 nights,
2)Take a bus up to Valencia and go to Morro de SP for 4-5 nights,
3)Fly Salvador to Recife and stay the areas around Recife and Natal for the last 8-9 nights
-----------------------
Plan 2
From Rio fly to Recife and stay in that travel area between Recife and Natal for 2 1/2 weeks
-----------------------

All advice is welcome. even alternative iteneraries

Recife From Miami directly to Fortaleza
Posted: Thu August 26, 2004 01:55 AM UTC
Are their flights from Miami to Fortaleza that would avoid going to Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro first?

Flying from Montreal, it just makes a lot of sense not having to spend all that time and money, my final destination being Canoa Quebrada...

Stopping in Manaus or Recife could be an option...

Recife Arranged tours from Recife
Posted: Sun July 25, 2004 08:21 PM UTC
Hello
I am hoping to visit a friend in Recife for a long weekend and would like to do a 10 day organised travel 'thing' afterwards starting from Recife and heading any where really. Everything I have seen on the internet is based around Rio de Janeiro.
Can anyone recommend any web sites. If I had longer I would love to see the country, but I can only get so long off of work so I would like to see something. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Recife New airport in Recife
Posted: Wed July 7, 2004 09:14 AM UTC
The new airport in Recife is ready!!!!! Finally! And now I heard there will be more international flights between Europe and Recife. And I also heard there will be one from Finland which is close to where I live. I can't believe it, it seems too good to be true:) Anyway, it is all based on gossips so I don't know which airline starting from when are where etc. Is there somebody who knows what flights from Europe to Recife will be added in near future or already exist (except the expensive TAP one from Lisbon)?

Obrigada. Beijos

Recife Yellow Fever in the state of Pernambuco
Posted: Thu July 10, 2003 10:18 PM UTC
We are going in a couple of weeks to a little town about 100 kilometers east of Recife in the state of Pernambuco in northeast Brazil. Is there Yellow Fever in this area? If we have to take the vaccine, may my kids take it if they are taking antibiotics "penicillin" right now? May I take it if I took the second shot of the vaccine against tetanus a couple of days ago? What kind of Vitamin B is the best against mosquitos? As well, is there any dengue in this area?
