Plane Tickets to/from Leh Posted: Fri July 11, 2008 01:28 AM UTC
Hi,
I will be traveling to Leh in mid-August, and my plan was to fly one way and take a bus/jeep the other way (haven't decided which way to fly yet). I'm trying to understand whether I need to buy plane tickets in advance. Ideally, I would like to reach Leh by road and then fly to Delhi when I feel like it, but this would mean getting plane tickets from Leh to Delhi only a few days in advance. Will I have problems getting tickets? How much should I expect to pay? Also, any recommendation as to flying into Leh as opposed to flying out of Leh?
Thanks!

Traveling alone to Leh/Ladakh in mid July Posted: Mon July 7, 2008 01:00 PM UTC
Hi,
I am traveling to Leh from July 17-26 -- that's 9 days and i was wondering if that is enough time to spend the first day acclimatizing and then still have time to see Leh, around Leh, and plan trips to Pangong Lake, Nubra Valley and maybe somewhere else?
Also I am a woman traveling alone and I wanted to know how easy is it to meet other travelers to share jeeps and taxis with for these longer trips?
Can anyone recommend travel agents in Leh I should meet to help plan my Ladakh travel?
Also, what about guest houses in Leh? I was considering Siala Guesthouse which is about 600 Rs. for a single but does anyone know of any that they stayed at that they really liked and would highly recommend? My budget is up till 600 Rs./night.
Also, should I book from Delhi or should I get there and then find a place? Or is that going to interfere with the acclimatizing??
I would love to do Pangong lake as an overnight trip -- is that possible?
Thank you in advance for your advice!!!

Leh Posted: Thu June 26, 2008 02:17 AM UTC
Hi, I am planning to visit Leh in early September 2008. I have 12 days in Leh and my plan is as follow:
1) Leh town and surronding stupa or monasteries
2) Climbing Stok-Kangri(5 days)
3) to Nubra Valley by bus and back 2 to 3 days later
4) visiting Lamayaru by bus and back the next day
Comments/Guidance needed:-
1)May I know whether my plan is to tight for the 12 days in Leh?
2)Any idea what is the cost of the climb for Stok Kangri? Any reliable agent at Leh to recommend?
3)What is the cost of bus from Leh to Panamik or Hunder? Which has better sight, Panamik or Hunder?
4)I intend to fly from Leh to Delhi, should I book the ticket oversea or while I am at Leh?
Your kind assistance to the above is much appreciated.
Thank you.

Srinagar safe? Posted: Sun June 8, 2008 06:41 PM UTC
I've been many years ago in the wonderful Srinagar, Kashmir. I would go back there and I'm interested to know how safe it's now... I mean not only the city, but also its surroundings, like the Srinagar-Kargil road.

Delhi to Manali to Leh Posted: Fri April 25, 2008 04:00 PM UTC
Hello,
My girlfriend and I wanted to take the Manali-Leh road trip mid August. I found the posts on this forum to be very helpful, but I still have a few questions that I wasn’t able to find answers to.
1. DELHI TO MANALI. Would you recommend flying or taking a bus from Delhi to Manali? If I fly, how much can I expect to pay for a ticket? If I take a bus, how (un)comfortable is it? Are there places on the way from Delhi to Manali that are really worth seeing?
2. OPTIONS FOR THE TRIP. Based on what I read on this forum, most people seem to drive themselves. I’ve never been to India (so I’ve never driven there), so I don’t know if it’s a good idea for me to drive myself. Any thoughts? If I do drive, is there an option of renting a car in Manali and returning it in Leh? What are other options (e.g., hiring a driver, taking a bus, an so on)?
Thank you!

Leh-Srinagar transportation + accomodation Posted: Tue April 22, 2008 10:11 AM UTC
I'll be flying in to Leh on the 16th of May with 3 friends. We plan on visting some places around Leh and then make our way to Srinagar by the 25th of May, when we have a morning flight back to Delhi. We'd like to rent a car for the entire stay, so one that can take us to all the places around Leh as well as to Srinagar. Can anyone recommend a place to get a car with driver for this trip and what would be the cost app.?
Furthermore we haven't booked any accomodation beforehand, as we don;t know beforehand where we'll be every night. But we would be interested in staying in guesthouses ... are those available in the Leh area and what would we pay per night app.? Thanks in advance!

staying for a month in Leh Posted: Sat March 15, 2008 08:27 AM UTC
Hi! I want to stay in Leh for a little over 1 month in May-June. Could someone recommend a nice place to stay that would provide a good price deal for longer stays. I would prefer a guest house that's quiet and walking distance (or connected by public transport) from the city center. Options of making tea or light cooking would be a great advantage.
Thanks in advance

Srinagar airport & flight Posted: Fri December 7, 2007 06:15 AM UTC
My wife and I will be visiting Srinagar and Gulmarg at the end of Dec 2007. I heard that the Srinagar airport has very tight security and hope VT members can advise me on what to expect when we are there.
Also, am I allowed to hand-carry my digital camera onto the plane from Delhi to Srinagar, and on the way back from Srinagar to Delhi? This is because I think the Himalaya mountain scenery should be very beautiful during the flight and I intend to take some photos while on the plane.
Regards

Query for the trip to Leh Posted: Wed October 3, 2007 04:45 PM UTC
Hi:
One thing has been lingering in my mind since we have come back from Ladakh (on 25th June, 2007) is, how do people visit Nubra valley, Spiti, Panamik and other such places which require at least an overnight stay? Do they visit these places checking out from their hotels in Leh with all luggage packed and loaded in the car or they leave the luggage in the hotel and come out only with necessary items. In the former case, the car with luggage on its carrier will be quite unstable and would not be wise to drive it on such bad roads until it is a compulsion. While in the latter situation, one has to pay the room rent at two places. I guess there are some other alternatives too. I would like you to share it with me. So that next time when I go there I do not miss any place and enjoy the trip thoroughly and come back to home without any regression. It is not easy to make up mind to visit Ladakh second time with family considering all the aspects.
Thank you
