rio safety Posted: Thu June 18, 2009 10:40 PM UTC
After reading all the comments I'm concerned about going to Rio. Is it less safe than other places in Brazil? We have traveled to many places and have never had so many warnings about robbers, muggings etc. WE don't wear jewelry. but we do take a camera and use maps. Also how can you change money if you have to be on guard all the time. We usually take public transport and not taxis. We also have been warned about taxis. Help!

beach town near rio Posted: Fri June 5, 2009 03:29 AM UTC
I will be traveling to Brazil in November 2009. The majority of my trip will be spent in Rio de Janeiro. I would like to spend two nights outside of the city such as a small beach town. I am willing to take a bus or rent a car for the duration. I would also like to keep this ‘beach town’ within 3 hours of Rio. I have read about great places to visit, but they are located 10+ hours from Rio.
Thanks!

Renting a Furnished Apartment in Rio Posted: Fri May 22, 2009 10:37 PM UTC
What are some of the good apartment rental agencies in Rio if you're looking for a temporary apartment for a few weeks? One I've been dealing with for a while is K&K/ Katarina & Khalid Rio Apartments ( http://site.katarinakhalidapartments.com/ ). What are some of the others, and how do they stack/ compare?
Thanks.

Should I stay or should I go? Posted: Thu April 16, 2009 12:03 PM UTC
My dilemma over the years is whether or not to go to Rio. Well we were thinkng of going to Mexico but the lure of Rio and Brazil is just too great. We are looking at the xmas and New Year 2009 period and would like to stay in an apartment. I have checked some links already from this forum so I basically need advice on Rio itself and things to do in Brazil in general. My dream would be some adventure in the jungles/ Amazon but not too demanding, perhaps some hiking somewhere then a week relaxing and partying in Rio for NYE and perhaps watch Gremio play in Porto Alegre. Is this too much for 1 trip (2 or 3 weeks max), is Rio unsafe especially at NYE? How easy is it to get to Porto Alegre and watch a match?
The main priority is safety, though I know nobody can guarantee it, will we be ok provided we use commonsense etc? I have been to some dodgy parts of the world but never really had too much trouble, perhaps Rio is a totally different ball-game?

Traveling to Rio? Posted: Wed April 15, 2009 09:07 PM UTC
Hey I am a 23 yr old student living in Rio from May 1 until Aug 1 2009. I have been traveling around the world and finally found a place I like enough to stay for a while. If any college age (in reality or at heart) tourists or travelers need some advice or want someone to show them around, message me or comment on this forum. I know people I found on sites like these greatly improved my travels abroad so I plan to return the favor!

Rio de Janeiro area - Marica Posted: Fri March 20, 2009 07:45 PM UTC
We have the possible opportunity to travel (from the U.S.) to Rio - and stay in a home that an acquaintance has there. The home is in a town called Marica.
Is anyone familiar with that town and the area around Marica? Is it north or South of Rio? Is it near the ocean, near a beach?
I'm interested in any other information that may be available about Marica.
Thank you.

What to see in and around Rio Posted: Thu March 12, 2009 11:53 AM UTC
Any suggestions will be appreciated on "must see" places in and around Rio de Janeiro. We will be there in August. Like culture and nature but can't do strenuous hiking. Also any tips on where to go in and around Sao Paulo, which is where we are landing.

Travelling To Rio with 2 children ages 9 and 13 Posted: Fri March 6, 2009 08:59 PM UTC
Hi,
My wife and i are planning a two week trip to Rio and surrounding area with our two children ages 13 and 9.
It has been over 20 years since i was last there and would like a few tips:
Would it be better to stay in Ipanema or Copacabana?
Which hotels in either area would you recommend for a family like ours? Not big budgets, just average 3* perhaps 4*
I understand the crime rate has rocketed recently - do you think it is advisable to travel there nowadays with 2 children?
We are all football mad - is it still quite easy to get tickets for a match?
We are planning say 7 to 10 days in Rio and a few days completely relaxing in say Buzios or Angra, what would you advise? looking to finish off relaxing by nice beaches and in a laid back atmosphere, if you can also recommend places to stay in either of these that would also be really helpful!
Thank you in advance - it was particulary the safety thing I was concerned about.

Where can I buy (used) Guitar and (used) Surfboard Posted: Fri February 20, 2009 12:26 PM UTC
Hi guys,
I'll be in Rio from tomorrow on and I want to buy a guitar, preferrably used because cheaper and a used surfboard.
Id be glad for some hints where I can get these two things easy, fast and cheap.
And I was thinking to give these two things away to some kinds when I leave because taking them on the plane is too expensive. I think this is a good idea but where would i give it to someone?
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!
