Oi, pessoal.
Vou estar hospedado na primeira semana de Agosto na Barra da Tijuca (Av. Sernambetiba/Av. Lúcio Costa).
É uma zona boa? O que se faz por ali? Praia? Noite?...
Obrigado

Rio de Janeiro Rio ou Sao Paulo?
Posted: Fri July 3, 2009 04:27 AM UTC
Like the title says, I'm planning a semester abroad before I graduate. My options are either Fundacao Armando Alvares Penteado in Sao Paulo (FAAP) or Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-rio).

I was hoping someone might have some opinions about the social life at either of these institutions or the general area that either is situated in (FAAP is dead center in the middle of Sao paulo and PUC-rio is in Gavea.

Anyone?
Alguem?

obrigado

Rio de Janeiro The truth about RdJ
Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 08:37 PM UTC
Hi,

There are just a few things I would like to know about Rio. I will be travelling around South America for 2-3 months later this year, and I'm planning to leave from Rio de Janeiro.

Firstly, is Rio actually as dangerous as its made out to be? I've seen videos and the like about the favelas on the web, but outside these areas is it that bad?

Secondly, what are absolute must do and must see things in RdJ, especially around November when I hope to get there? I'm an avid football fan too, so would the football season still be running in November or would I be too late?

Cheers,
Paddy

Rio de Janeiro Football on Saturday
Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 12:34 AM UTC
We had tickets arranged for the Flamego match this Saturday but I'm out of town until early evening so I have had to turn them down. Is there any chance of getting tickets at the ground just in case we get back early?

Rio de Janeiro rio safety
Posted: Thu June 18, 2009 09:40 PM UTC
After reading all the comments I'm concerned about going to Rio. Is it less safe than other places in Brazil? We have traveled to many places and have never had so many warnings about robbers, muggings etc. WE don't wear jewelry. but we do take a camera and use maps. Also how can you change money if you have to be on guard all the time. We usually take public transport and not taxis. We also have been warned about taxis. Help!

Rio de Janeiro beach town near rio
Posted: Fri June 5, 2009 02:29 AM UTC
I will be traveling to Brazil in November 2009. The majority of my trip will be spent in Rio de Janeiro. I would like to spend two nights outside of the city such as a small beach town. I am willing to take a bus or rent a car for the duration. I would also like to keep this ‘beach town’ within 3 hours of Rio. I have read about great places to visit, but they are located 10+ hours from Rio.

Thanks!

Rio de Janeiro Renting a Furnished Apartment in Rio
Posted: Fri May 22, 2009 09:37 PM UTC
What are some of the good apartment rental agencies in Rio if you're looking for a temporary apartment for a few weeks? One I've been dealing with for a while is K&K/ Katarina & Khalid Rio Apartments ( http://site.katarinakhalidapartments.com/ ). What are some of the others, and how do they stack/ compare?

Thanks.

Rio de Janeiro Should I stay or should I go?
Posted: Thu April 16, 2009 11:03 AM UTC
My dilemma over the years is whether or not to go to Rio. Well we were thinkng of going to Mexico but the lure of Rio and Brazil is just too great. We are looking at the xmas and New Year 2009 period and would like to stay in an apartment. I have checked some links already from this forum so I basically need advice on Rio itself and things to do in Brazil in general. My dream would be some adventure in the jungles/ Amazon but not too demanding, perhaps some hiking somewhere then a week relaxing and partying in Rio for NYE and perhaps watch Gremio play in Porto Alegre. Is this too much for 1 trip (2 or 3 weeks max), is Rio unsafe especially at NYE? How easy is it to get to Porto Alegre and watch a match?

The main priority is safety, though I know nobody can guarantee it, will we be ok provided we use commonsense etc? I have been to some dodgy parts of the world but never really had too much trouble, perhaps Rio is a totally different ball-game?

Rio de Janeiro Traveling to Rio?
Posted: Wed April 15, 2009 08:07 PM UTC
Hey I am a 23 yr old student living in Rio from May 1 until Aug 1 2009. I have been traveling around the world and finally found a place I like enough to stay for a while. If any college age (in reality or at heart) tourists or travelers need some advice or want someone to show them around, message me or comment on this forum. I know people I found on sites like these greatly improved my travels abroad so I plan to return the favor!

Rio de Janeiro Rio de Janeiro area - Marica
Posted: Fri March 20, 2009 06:45 PM UTC
We have the possible opportunity to travel (from the U.S.) to Rio - and stay in a home that an acquaintance has there. The home is in a town called Marica.

Is anyone familiar with that town and the area around Marica? Is it north or South of Rio? Is it near the ocean, near a beach?

I'm interested in any other information that may be available about Marica.

Thank you.
