Its a request to all the people who have been to Kerala or belong to the place gto please guide us..I have couple of basic questions : 1. How will teh weather be fron June 21 to June 28..I know its monsson time but cant change the dates.Do we need to carry some woolens fro Munnar? 2. We are planning to visit cochin, munnar, aleppey, Kovalam, Periyar....what should be the approximate budget for 4 people excuding air tickets ..we are not looking for five stars..any neat resorts is the preference ? Should we consider travel agents ot it can be self managed? How much is the house boat in Aleppey for a night? Also of someone can suggest some nice hotels/ resorts in the above mentioned places, it would be great.. Thanks much in advance... Looking forward to your valuable suggestions.. |

Also, anyone who has stayed at any of these Mahindra Resorts, please provide feedback. |

| Munnar | self catered villa/ houses in Munnar in June 08 Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 08:16 AM UTC
Has anyone from VT experienced villas/ guest houses rented out on a self catering arrangement in Munnar?
I am willing to pay upto £200/ week and have plans to go as a big family initially with my parents and wife, but for the weekend more family members(6) will join us. Am I being unrealistic in expecting something for £200/ week to accomodate upto 10 people for 2 days (would be okay to share rooms and floor), but mainly 4 members for the rest of the stay. Also, I am expecting monsoon rains in June...is it too bad, that I should reconsider? Thank you |

| State of Kerala | Where can I find ayurvedic healing? Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 12:55 PM UTC
I want to do a 30 day cleansing/healing course of treatment of ayurveda.
The ideal situation would be one where there's a certain level of comfort but I don't want to pay too much. If I can get away with it, I'd like something that includes treatment, lodging and food for 1000 or fewer rupees per day. Websites and phone numbers greatly appreciated. g |

Hi everyone,
it seems I will go to South India in January 2009 and I am interested in information about recommended Backwater Boat Tour Operators. Any suggestions on good operators/boats/prices would be very welcome. What we have in mind is a two or three-day tour with options to visit villages along the way. Best regards Michael |

| State of Kerala | How is Kovalam now Posted: Thu March 20, 2008 10:33 PM UTC
I posted a question about Kovalam last year. It regarded the increase of tourism in Kerala and had it had any adverse effects on the quality of life in Kovalam. I am visiting the Uday Samudra Hotel later this year. Has anyone been to this resort lately and is it still the paradise that it was in the past. Thanks to all who may respond. .. | Munnar | Munnar to Trivandrum by bus Posted: Sun February 24, 2008 06:31 AM UTC
Are there are only overnight buses from Munnar to Trivandrum, or are there early morning departures as well?
I have a 7pm flight from Trivandrum on Friday and want to spend 2/3 days in Munnar before it. If I have to leave on an overnight bus on Thursday night, it won't be worth coming to Munnar. Be very grateful if anyone can help me with this. Ajay |

| State of Kerala | 1. House boats on Kerala Backwaters and 2. Appropriate dress Posted: Wed February 20, 2008 02:09 PM UTC
These are my final questions (I think!) and I really appreciate your help!
I have been convinced that hiring a houseboat for 2 people on the Kerala Backwaters is a great thing to do, and that I can arrange it when I get there, preferably after seeing the boat in question. But I'm not sure I understand where they go to, eg. would an overnight punted boat take us from Kollam to Alleppey,or vice versa? Could we travel from Allepey to Kochi/Cochin? Or is it usually a round trip? Also, is there a "best" place to take this trip? What would be a fair price to pay in March? My other question was regarding what women should be wearing in Kerala, i.e. what needs to be covered? I presume shoulders and knees, but is it necessary to cover right down to ankles? Anything else I should know about dress? Thanks again! |

| State of Kerala | Itinerary suggestions? Posted: Fri February 15, 2008 09:07 PM UTC
Hi,
I am going to Kerala for 14 days, based in Kovalam, where I have a hotel room for the duration, though intend to use it as a base and spend several nights away from it. Things I like to do include boat trips, seeing animals, not-too-strenuous jungle trekking, cycling, adventure activities, swimming, beautiful scenery, and local ways of living, where there aren't too many tourists. I'm also interested in temples and towns and villages. I don't want to be in a tourist resort the whole time. I've had a look at some websites and travel books but remain confused. What would you suggest for an itinerary to take in these interests in Kerala? Also, do you recommend booking tours from Kovalam, or using public transport? Thanks! |
